EU Commission To Decide GSP Plus On Sri Lanka i

The Commission  on The European Union is to meet on 15th of October to discuss on the GSP Plus Concession for  Sri Lanka.The final Decision on granting of GSP Plus to Sri Lanka is to be taken at the end of the year according to the EU Sources.

Health Secretary To Appoint An Inquiry Committee To Probe 38 Blood Bank Officials

The Health Ministry Secretary Dr.Athula Kahanda Liyanage is due to appoint a Special Inquiry Committee to probe a Formal Disciplinary Inquiry against the 38 defendants of the Issuing Of Expired Blood Kits Case.These Defendants were already received Charge Sheets to explain there positions regarding the Charges leveled against them within two weak's  time.

After they make out  there explanations  the Committee will begin the Inquiry Health Ministry Sources said today.The defendants who were issued Charge Sheets included  the former Director of the National Blood Centre in Colombo Dr.Mangalika Bindusara.Due to the Public Services Commission(PSC) delays the issuing of Charge Sheets to the above defendants the Powers vested to the PSC were transfer to the Health Secretary through  a Special Cabinet Order last weak..

Ten Suspects Of The IT Student Assault Case Were Further Remanded

The Colombo Magistrate Court today refused Bail and further remanded the 10 Suspects including the Son and Wife of the Former SSP Vaas Gunawardena who are taken into Custody regarding the assault over IT Student Nipuna Ramanayaka..The Court also instructed the Police to get an Information from another Police on one other  Suspect involved in the Incident.

Health Minister Submitted The Cuban Dengue Report For Cabinet Approval


Health Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva submitted the Cuban Epidemiologists Report on Using the Cuban Methodology into the Sri Lankan Dengue Control Programme to the Cabinet on last Wednesday.This Report was later Prepared again to suit Sri Lankan standard and with this Report the Estimated Cost Report to implement the above Report too was submitted to the Cabinet Approval.
A panel of Sri Lankan Professors and Experts made changes in the original Report which was submitted by the two visiting Cuban Epidemiologists.

Kuwaiti Government To Deport 17,000 Illegal Immigrants Including Sri Lankans


The Interior Ministry of Kuwait is planning to Deport 17,000 Illegal Immigrants who are under Police Custody including 1000 Sri Lankans at the end of the year "The Kuwait Times" Paper reported today.This is the largest batch of Immigrants to be Deported from the Country since getting Independence after the Iraqi Invasion in 1991.

Kuwaiti Interior Ministry already applied for getting Air Tickets for these Illegal Immigrants who are belongs to 22 Nations through the Central Tender Board.In 2006 Kuwaiti Government Deported 16,000 Immigrants from the Country.

Meanwhile after hearing on the News Report on Deporting of Sri Lankan Immigrants The Sri Lankan Ambassador to Kuwait said that still no Definite decision made in this regard.

Two IDP'S Were Shot By The Army While Trying To Escape


Two IDP'S were injured and 19 got arrested during a clash with the Sri Lankan Army when Two IDP'S tried to flee from the Manick Farm IDP Camp yesterday.The two who were shot sustained Injuries were admitted to the Cheddikulam Hospital in the Northern Sri Lanka.

According to the Army Spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara The two Inmates who were to escape from the IDP Camp tried to throw a Grenade and hurl Stones at the Army Personal.As a result Army shot at them he stressed.Police are questioning the 19 people who have been taken into custody during the clash.

Health Secretary Issued Charge Sheets For 38 Blood Bank Workers


Health Ministry Secretary Dr.Athula Kahanda Liyanage issued Charge Sheets under a Special Cabinet Order for 38 People who are found guilty of issuing Expired Blood Kits to the Government Hospitals .Cabinet was instructed the Health Secretary last weak to issue these Charge Sheets as the Public Services Commission the Body which issues Charge Sheets for Public Servants are not doing their Job properly.

The Report of the Preliminary Inquiry held regarding the Blood Kits Case was sent to the PSC on 01st of September last year but the Commission is still not able to issue Charge Sheets for the accused.Therefor the Health Secretary is given wide Powers to act on the Issue.

After the issuing of Charge Sheets the Health Secretary is due to appoint a Special Committee in two weak time to probe a Formal Disciplinary Inquiry on the Accused Persons according to the Health Ministry Sources.

The former Director of the National Blood Center in Colombo Dr.Mangalika Bindusara and Three Doctors are among the 38 accused over the Expired Blood Kits case.

National Blood Transfusion Policy To Submit To Parliament


The much awaited National Blood Transfusion Policy draft is to be submitted for the Parliamentary Selection Committee within two weak time Acting Deputy Director General Of Health Services Dr.Wimal Jayantha said today.This Draft was temporarily suspended from presenting to the Parliament last year after the Health Trade Unions and the Organizations opposed some of the regulations in the Draft.

The Blood Transfusion Policy is amended after taking suggestions from the public.Safeguarding the quality of Government and Private Blood Banks and banning the collecting and producing of Blood Products by the Private Blood Banks are the main priorities of the Policy.

20 People Injured From Bus-Lorry Colision


Over 20 People got injured this evening when a Lorry collided with a Private Bus at a Junction in Paliyagoda Area.A Lorry traveling from Kandy to Colombo collided with a Bus traveling Colombo-Muththur Route and the Police says this Accident was a result of a negligence by the Bus Driver.collision

Galle Add.Magistrate Allows Bail For Controversial Provincial Councilor

Galle Additional Magistrate today allows Bail to the Southern Province Councilor Nishantha Muthuhettigama who was arrested in last Monday over criticizing the IGP and the Police.Earlier he was remanded till 28th of this month after produced to the Court.

UN Human Rights Rep.Walter Kalin Arrives The Island

The Representative of the United Nations Secretary General on the Human Rights of Internally Displaced Persons Mr.Walter Kalin arrived Sri Lanka last morning on an invitation of the Minister of Human Rights and Disaster Management Mahinda Samarasinha.

He is due to tour the IDP Camps in the North to witness the situation there especially the Demining,Reconstruction and Developmnt Programmes there Minister Samarasinha said.

Doctor Attempt To Sexually Abuse Pregnant Mother Was Interdicted

The Doctor who is charged for attempting Sexual Abuse of a Pregnant Mother at the Sri Jayawardanapura Teaching Hospital was Interdicted by the Director General of Health Services Dr.Ajith Mendis yesterday.The Doctor who is an Intern was interdicted for a period of one month according to the recommendation made by the Report of an Inquiry held on the incident.

Director General Of Health Services also submitted the Report to the Sri Lanka Medical Council to take a Stern Disciplinary Action against the accused Doctor.The Director of the Jayawardanapura Hospital has been carried out the Inquiry and handed over the Report to Director General Of Health Services on last Saturday.

IMF Says No Secret Conditions For Sri Lanka's Loan

International Monetary Fund(IMF) today says that there were no secret conditions apart from the Technical formalities and fiscal obligations for the approval of the loan to Sri Lanka.

14 Percent Of Sri Lankan Primary School Children Are Obessed

The recently conducted survey reveals that 14 percent of the Primary School Children in Sri Lanka are Obessed the Director of Non Communicable Diseases Unit of the Ministry of Health Dr.Lal Panapitiya said today.The Bad Food Habits and Malnutrition are the main causes behind this situation and Childhood Obesity will cause a Serious Health Problems including Cardiac Problems in Future he stressed.

He make these remarks during a Media Seminar on World Heart Day held at the Health Education Bureau at Colombo this morning.The World Heart day falls on the 27th of September.

The Inquiry Report On Sexual Harassment Against A Pregnant Mother handover

The Inquiry Report on Attempted Sexual Harassment by a Doctor attached to the Sri Jayawardanapura Hospital over a Pregnant Mother at the Hospital was handed over to the Director General Of Health Services Dr.Ajith Mendis on last Saturday.According to the Dr.Mendis he will examine the Report and refer it to the Sri Lanka Medical Council to take a Disciplinary Action against the Doctor if he has found guilty on the incident.

The Director of the Sri Jayawardanapura Hospital Dr.D.L.D Laneroll was carried out the Investigations on to the Incident after Husband of the Victim was made a complaint on the incident two week's ago.

Southern Provincial Councilor Arrested Over Criticizing IGP And The Police

Southern Provincial Councilor of the governing United People's Freedom Alliance(UPFA) Nishantha Muthuhettigama who is charged with making Death Threats towards UPFA Candidate for the forthcoming Southern Provincial Council Elections Actress Anarkali Akarsha got arrested today for the second time.He is arrested due to the his recent alleged comments on the Inspector General Of Police(IGP) and the Police according to the DIG and the Police Spokesman Nimal Madiwaka.

Councilor Muthuhettigama who was arrested in the previous occasion on a complaint made by the Actress Anarkali saying that he made Death Threats against her was later released on Bail.However after wards he criticized the IGP and the Police over his arrest.IGP also appointed a Special Police Committee to investigate into the Comments made by the Councilor regarding the Police.

Catholic Arch Bishop Called EU To Grant GSP Plus To Sri Lanka

The Catholic Arch Bishop of Colombo the Rev.Dr.Malcolm Ranjith today appealed to the European Union to continue granting the GSP Plus facility to Sri Lanka and assisting the Country to achieve true Peace and Justice.

Three Member Foreign Medical Team To Investigate On Sri Lankan Dengue Epidemic

A three member Foreign Medical Team headed by the Former Chief of the Epidemiology Unit Of The World Health Organization(WHO) Arrived Sri Lanka last Saturday to find the Causes for the Increased Number of Dengue Deaths in Sri Lanka within this year and the reasons for the Dengue Epidemic.

The team is headed by the Professor Siri Penn and also included a Specialist Doctor and a Nursing Consultant.The Team is due to hold Seminars in Colombo,Kandy and Galle to identify the causes for the Dengue Deaths and the Epidemic.During the Seminars these Medical Experts are due to exchange ideas with the local Medical Consultants and the Nursing Consultant is due to train local Nurses on handling of the Dengue Patients.The First Seminar of the Series is due to held in Colombo tomorrow.

Revised Cuban Dengue Report To Submit To The Cabinet

Health Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva is due to Submit the Revised Report of using Cuban Method to Combat Dengue Menace in Sri Lanka to the Cabinet on this Wednesday Health Ministry Sources said.The Report submitted to the Ministry by the two visiting Cuban Epidemiologists revised to suit Sri Lankan System using the recommendations made by Sri Lankan Experts.

National Dengue Prevention Weak Begins Tomorrow

The Ministry Of Health is Declared a National Dengue Prevention Weak begins from Tomorrow(21) up to Next Sunday(27) with the aim of destroying Dengue Mosquito Breeding Places in the Island through Cleaning Campaigns(Shramdana's)

According to the Deputy Director General Of Health Services(Public Health) Dr.Palitha Mahipala Cleaning Campaigns will be launched around the Houses/Public and Private Institutions/Schools during this Weak with the Participation of Provincial Councils,Health Workers and the Public.As the North East Monsoon Rain is to Begin Soon, The Epidemiologists warnes that the Dengue Epidemic will arise throughout the Island.

In last year the most number of Dengue Patients were reported during the North Eastern Monsoon Rainy Period.

Non Cabinet Minister Karuna Met With An Accident

Non Cabinet Minister and Former Eastern Commander of the LTTE Karuna Amman alias Vinayagamurthy Muralideran met with an Accident this evening when his Bullet Proof Vehicle got collided with a Passenger Bus at Colombo.The Minister who is on his way to Colombo from Vavuniya however not suffering any Injuries due to the Accident. But his Driver is sustained with Minor Injuries .

5320 IDP'S Re Settled In Their Native Palces

Around 5320 Internally Displaced Persons(IDP'S) belongs to some 1000 Families stayed at Welfare Villages in Vavuniya of Northern Sri Lanka were Re Settled today at their Native Places.Earlier Government was announced that around 600 IDP Families will Re Settled by today.

The IDP'S Re Settled today belongs to 845 Tamil and 155 Sinhalese Families and they were Settled in 28 Villages in the Vavuniya District.

A Large Haul Of LTTE Weapons Recovered From Colombo Suburbs

A Large Haul of Weapons hidden by LTTE were recovered from near a house at Malfred Crescent, Dehiwala in the Colombo Suburbs during yesterday evening According to the Police Spokesman Senior DIG Nimal Madiwaka.These Weapons including a Quantity of Detenators,Remote Controller,A Receiver,Six Timers,Four poweful Boosters and a Canvas Belt He stressed.

This Raid was carried out by the State Intelligance Service and the Dehiwala Police according to the Statements given by the LTTE Suspects who are in Police Custody.

Around 600 IDP Families staying at Welfare Villages in the Northern Sri Lanka are scheduled to Re Settled in their Native Places tomorrow.Visiting Under Secretary (Politics) of the United Nations Lynn Pascoe also stressed the Government the need of Re Settling these IDP's.
Sri Lankan Government already decided to Re Settle around 150,000 IDP'S in Mid October this year.The delay of Re Settling these IDP'S is due to the clearing of mines in the most parts of the North and the LTTE Cadres who are hiding among these IDP'S according to Government Sources.

Sri Lanka's Trade Deficit Reduced To US$ 260 Million

Sri Lanka's Trade Deficit of this year reduces to US$ 260 Million in July as decline in Imports and Out Pace fall in Exports according to the First Guardian Equities.The Imports decline by -28 Percent and the Exports fall from -23 Percent according to the Report.

UN Under Secretary General Wants Early Resettlement Of IDP'S

The United Nations Under Secretary General Lynn Pascoe said today that the delaying resettlement of IDP'S in the Northern Sri Lanka may undermine the prospects for Peace Reconciliation in the future.According to him keeping these IDP'S in camps further endangering the future Political Stability of the Country.

Sri Lankan Attorney General Is In U.K To Take Legal Action Against Channel 4

Sri Lankan Attorney General Mohan Pieris went to Britain today to explore the possibilities of taking legal action against British T.V Channel over telecasting a video footage on alleged killing of an unarmed LTTE Cadre by the Army Personal.Earlier Sri Lankan Government Denied the Video Footage by saying it is a Fake.

According to the Minister of Human Rights and Disaster Management Mahinda Samarasinha who is in Geneva to attend the 12th United Nations Human Rights Council Session said that the Attorney General will meet the Lawyers representing Sri Lanka on this case and will search the Best Legal way of handling the case against the Channel 4.He is also scheduled to meat British Press Complaint Commission to seek Redress.

Private Bus Fares To Increase 5.3 Percent From Tuesday

Private Bus Fares are due to increase from 5.3 Percent effect from Next Tuesday(22) according to the National Transport Commission.The Transport Commission today informed this Fare Hike to the Private Bus Owners Association.

However the Minimum Bus Fare of Six Rupees will not be affected by this Increase.

Navy Recovered Valuable LTTE Docuement Packages

The Navy Special Investigations Unit today recovered around 25 Packages of  valuable LTTE Documents from an undergound site at Illanathurai in Kadiramalai of the Northern Sri Lanka.According to the Navy these Docuements are very valuable ones and the further Investigations are underway on this.

Dr.Palitha Kohona Resumed Duties As New UN Representative

Former Foreign Secretary Dr.Palitha Kohona today resumed his duties as the Sri Lankan Permanent Residential Representative to the United Nations in  New York,U.S.A.Dr.Kohona presented his Credentials to the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon this morning and hold talks with him around 45 minutes.

Minister Douglas Devananda Seeks The Intervention Of President To Release Unclaimed Deposits

EPDP Leader and Social Services and Social Welfare Minister Douglas Devananda today says that he will seek President Mahinda Rajapaksha's intervention to release Multi Million worth of unclaimed Deposits in State Banks in the North to be used as Soft Loans for people in Agricultural and Industrial Sectors.

The Trade Union Action of the Estate Workers continues as the talks between the Trade Unions and Ceylon Employers Federation failed again today over increasing the Wages of the Workers.

Former LTTE Leaders Daya Master And George Master Released On Bail

Colombo High Court today released the Former LTTE Media Spokesman Daya Master and the Translator George Master on Bail who were in Police Custody since last April.After the LTTE was defeated in the hands of Sri Lankan Army Both Daya Master and George Master returned to the Government held Area with their Family Members and surrendered to the Forces.

After given Bail  Both  former LTTE Leaders were seen left the Court Premises  from an Inter Cooler Jeep.

British Embassy Refused To Grant Visas To Sri Lankan Foreign Secretary

The Foreign Ministry was confused today after the British Embassy in Colombo refused to grant Visa to the Outgoing Foreign Ministry Secretary Dr.Palitha Kohona to travel Britain.Dr.Kohona  sent his Passport to the Embassy along with the Chief Protocol of the Ministry to obtain Visas. 

However the British Embassy refused to grant him the Visas citing that the Foreign Secretary himself should come and submit his Passport for Visas.After the Embassy's refusal the Foreign Ministry submitted his Passport again but the Embassy refused it for the second time.After the Refusal the Foreign Ministry Officials tried to contact the Acting British High Commissioner to get Assistance in this regard but were failed to reaching him.

Meanwhile the British Embassy said that they will not refused any Visa Application due to a Political Biasness  and stressed that The Embassy is act according to the law.
