Bus fares had been increased by 35 percent with effect from midnight tonight (19) as a result of the price increase of fuel according to the National Transport Commission ,

According to the new price hike of the Bus fares the minimum bus fare has been increased to Rs.27 and the maximum fare will be .Rs.2022 .

Many Private Buses didn't operate today as a protest for the fuel price increase

CEYPETCO Had Increased Fuel Prices

Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CEYPETCO)had increased the prices of Petrol and Diesel With effect from midnight last night(18) it hax been announced.

Accordingly a liter of Octane -92 Petrol was increased by Rs.84 and a liter of Octane-95 petrol had been increased by Rs.90 .A liter of Auto diesel had been increased by Rs.113 and a liter of Supet Diesel had increased by Rs.75 the sources have stated .

The restrictions imposed over issuing of Fuel from Fuel refilling ststions had been removed with the new price hike the CEYPETCO has revealed .

A Person Was Killed And 27 Wounded Due To The Gun Shots Fired By Rambukkana Polce

A person was killed and 27 others had been injured and hospitalized in Rambukkana Police Division this evening (19) after Police had fired gun shots towards a group of Protesters who had blocked the Rail track in Rambukkana area since this morning and protested against fuel price hike and fuel shortage .

The injured including 10 Police officers had been admitted to Kegalle Teaching Hospital where a seriously wounded person had succumbed to his injuries whilst receiving ICU Treatment ,Another few critically injured persons are currently being treated at ICU it has been revealed .

A group of Protesters had blocked the Kandy -Colombo Railway line and another group of Protesters had blocked the Rambukkana -kegalle and Kurunagala-Mawanalla railway lines and protested since this morning it has been reported .As many train journeys had been cancelled due to the protests Police had used tear gas and water cannons to disperse the protesters this evening .

Angry protesters then pelted stones at the Police and as a result Police had fired gunshots towards the protesters' which saw a person was killed and 27 others injured

Police Curfew Had Been Imposed In Rambukkana Police Division

Police Curfew has been imposed in Rambukkna Police Division until further notice after a tense situation had occurred in the area as a result of a clash between a group of protesters and police according to the Police Media Spokesman Senior Superintendent Of Police (SSP) Nihal Thalduwa .

Police had strictly advised the Public in the area to be at home during the Police curfew period and a stern legal action will be taken against those who are violating the curfew order Police Media Spokesman has stated .

Motorists are being advised to avoid Rambukkana police division and use an alternative routes when travelling .
