Eighteen Rabies Deaths Had Been Reported So Far This Year

 .

Eighteen Rabies Deaths had been reported during last Eight and half months of this year compared to the Twenty five Rabies Deaths reported during last year  (2018)says the Veterinary Doctor attached to the Public Veterinary Health Unit of the Ministry Of Health Dr.Ruvini Pimburage .

Addressing the Media at a press briefing held at Viharamahadevi Open Theater in Town Hall last friday (27)morning  ,Dr.Pimburage has stressed that around 3 million Dogs including domestic and stray Dogs  are their in Sri Lanka at present and the Public Veterinary  Health Unit is vaccinating 1.5 million Dogs a year to prevent spreading of Rabies .

Around 350,0000 DOG bites is being reported from Sri Lanka annually although a vaccination  programme for Dogs is being implemented Dr.Pimburage has stressed.

Everyone who got pet dogs and other pet animals should have vaccinated their pets as required she has stated .

A Walk to make public aware on Rabies had been conducted from Independence Square to Viharamahadevi Park on Friday morning prior to the press brirfing. Health Ministry officials along with Public Health Inspectors and Health workers had participated the walk .

A Book. Shop In Wattala Had Been Destroyed Due To A Fire

,Colombo  had been completely destroyed due to a sudden fire erupted there in the wee hours of this morning (29).

Two fire trucks attached to Colombo Fire Services Department with twelve fire fighters had doused the fire which caused due to an  Electricity leak it has been reported. 

A Lorry Driver And Assistant Were Killed Due To A Road Accident

A Lorry driver and his assistant had
been killed after the Lorry they were travelling in colliding with a small Lorry at Galketiya area in Kalawana -Mathugama  road last Friday (27)night .

The critically injured Lorry driver and his assistant had succumbed to their injuries after being admitted to the Kalawana  Base  Hospital .

The identity of the Lorry assistant has not yet been revealed .


Two Suspects Arrested Over issuing Confiscatted Gold Illegally Remanded Until 08th

Former  Director General of Customs
Jagath Premalal Jayaweera and Additional Director Of Customs Tharaka Semerviratna   who had been arrested by the Police Crimes Investigations Division  (FCID)yesterday  (27)were rremanded until 08th of October by the Nugegoda and Badulla Magistrate courts .

As both suspects are being treated at Jayawardanapura And Badulla General Hospitals respectively, The  magistrates of Nugegoda and Badulla Magistrate Courts had visited them at the hospitals today (28)and ordered them to be Remanded.

Both the suspects had been arrested by FCID officials yesterday  (27)over issuing  08 Kilo Grammes of confiscated Gold to build a Samadhi Buddha Statue to be placed in Sandagiri Saya in Anuradhapura during previous regime .

However no action has been taken against  the superiors who have ordered the suspects to issue the confiscated Gold belonging  to customs .

Chief Security Officer Of Avant-Guarde Marine Protection Unit Arrested Upon His Arrival

Criminal Investigations Department 
(CID )had yesterday  (27)arrested the Chief security officer of the Avant-Guarde Marine Protection Unit retired Navy Commadore  Vishwajith Nandana Diyabalanage on his return to Sri Lanka from Singapore last at the Katunayake Airport.

The suspect was arrested over avoiding court  regarding the Avant-Guarde floating armoury issue.

Although the Galle Magistrate Court
Had imposed  a travel ban on the suspect he had somehow managed to leave Singapore it has been revealed.




Seven Bodies Of Female Elephants Recovered At A Habarana Reserve

Wild Life officers have recovered
seven bodies of female Wild Elephants who had died mysteriously yesterday (27)and today (28)at Thunbikulama reserve in Hiriwadunna ,Habarana.

Accordingly four bodies of Elephants had been recovered yesterday and three today it has been revealed.

These bodies of female Elephants had been recovered during a joint search mission carried out by the Wild Life officers attached to Sigiriya Wild Life office, Habarana Police ,Army personal and residents of the area .

A four year old Baby Elephant Calf had found whilst staying close to the body of one of the female Elephants recovered today  .The calf who didn't realise that his mother is dead stayed with her and not allowed anyone to come near the body it has been reported .

However as there's a need to comduct a post mortem regarding the Elephants body ,Wild Life officers had tranquillized the baby Elephant calf and released him to another area according to reports.

Search mission is currently underway to check whether there are more bodies of Elephants in the reserve .A large number  of Locals and foreigners had arrived in the reserve  to view the bodies of the Elephants .

FCID HAD ARRESTED TWO FORMER CUSTOM DIRECTORS OVER RELEASING GOLD

Police Financial Crimes Investigation
Division( FCID) had yesterday  (27)arrested the former Customs Director General Jagath Wijeweera and Foemer Additional Customs Director General Tharaka Dissanayake over releasing a stock of confiscated Gold weighing 8 Kilo Grammes for building a "Samadhi Buddha Statue during previous regime.

Accordingly the two suspects had been arrested over releasing the stock of confiscated Gold kept under the custody  Customs  to create a Buddha Statue to place in the "Sanda Hiru Saya" at Anuradhapura on the charges of breach of Trust  .

However the two suspects had managed to admitted to  two Hospitals citing sudden illness before their arrests  it has been revealed. Former Customs Director General Jagath Wijeweera and Former Additional Customs Director Genreal Tharaka Dissanayake are currently receiving teatment at Jayawardanapura Teaching and Badulla General Hospitals respectively under the police protection.

Colombo Fort Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake has recently ordered to a rrest  the two suspects  over the charges.

FCID is due to inform the Colombo Chief Magistrate over the arrests of two Former officers  today  (28).
