President And Appointed Premier Handed Over Permanent Appointments To 7000 SamurdhI Officers

President Maithripala Sirisena and
Mahinda Rajapakshe had confirmed the temporary appointments of 7000 Samurdhi Officers during a ceremony held in Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium yesterday (30) according to sources.

Earlier appointed Minister of Housing in minority government Wimal Weerawansha has told the media around 14,000 temporary Samurdhi officers would be confirmed. 


New Premier Mahinda Rajapakshe Has Instructed Finance Ministry To Reduce Sugar Tax Imposed On Soft Drinks To Reduce Diabetes, From 50 Cents To 30 Cents

The 50 cent Sugar tax imposed on Soft drinks and  by the Good Governance government recently as a step to prevent spreading non communucable diseases including diabetes  due to be reduced to 30 Cents under the instructions of Appointed Premier and Finance Minister Mahinda Rajapakshe according to the Ministry of Finance .

During a meeting held between local Soft drinks and Biscuit manufacturers and appointed Premier Rajapakshe yesterday  (30)at Prime Minister's office Premier Rajapakshe has instructed the Finance Ministry to reduce the Sugar Tax of 50 cents imposed on  per 1 Gramme of Sugar contains in Soft  drinks  to 30 cents .

Soft Drink Manufacturers are due to reduce the prices of their soft drinks as a result of  the concession they have received from the new Premier they have stated during the meeting it has been reported .

 Premier Rajapaksha has also instructed the Finance Ministry to remove the Sugar tax imposed on Carbonated Drinks upto 6 Grammes of Sugar and for Fruit drinks upto 9 Grammes.

There will be no Sugar tax imposed on sweet products including Biscuits under the appointed government Premier Rajapakshe has assured the Local sweet manufacturers when they told him regarding such a plan recently.

All these decisions had been taken according to advice of National Economic Council the Finance Ministry has stated. 




Lanka Indian Oil Company Has Reduced The Prices Of Petrol And Diesel By Rs.5

Lanka Indian Oil Company (LIOC ) has
also reduced the prices of Petrol and Diesel by Rs.5  coincide with the price reduction made by Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) with effect from midnight last night (30).

Accordingly the new prices of  a liter of LIOC Octane -92  Petrol is Rs.143 ,Octane -95 Petrol Rs.162 ,Super Diesel Rs.131 and Auto Diesel Rs.106.

Two Police Constables In Batticaloa Had Been Shot And Killed -A Police Team.Lead By IGP Arrived In Batticaloa To Observe The Investigations

The two Police Constables whose bodies
had been recovered near the Vavnathivu Police post in Batticaloa had been shot and killed by someone according to Police .

However the killers have  not yet been identified .The bodies of the two Police Constables had been recovered last morning near a Police post at Vavnathivu, Batticaloa .

A Police team lead by Inspector General.Of Police (IGP)Pujitha Jayasundara had left Batticaloa yesterday  (30) by a helicopter to observe the ongoing investigations of the killings of Two  Police Constables.

They have met the Police Heads in Batticaloa last evening and discussed on the security situation in the area it has been revealed.

The investigation over the killing of two police Constables  is being carried out by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

Court Of Appeal Has Postponed The Hearing Of A Petition Requesting To Issue A Writ Order Against New Premier Until This Monday (03)

The Court of Appeal has yesterday 
(30)ordered to postpone the hearing of the petition filed at Supreme Court by 122 MP'S.  representing   United National Front (UNF ), Tamil National Alliance and Janatha Wimukthi Peramuna requesting to issue a writ order announcing the new Premier Mahinda Rajapakshe has no legal power to hold the premiership.

Submission  of facts from petitioners and respondents had been done during yesterday's hearing before the Court of Appeal Judge Panel Comprising of it's chairman Preethi Padman Surasena and Arjuna Obeysekare .

The submission of facts regarding the petition will continue on Monday as well before giving a verdict regarding the petotion. 

The Petitioners requested the court to.issue "Quo Warranto "writ order declaring the newly appointed Premier and his Cabinet are illegal .

President Has Accepted New Premier Mahinda Rajapakshe Does Not Have Majority In Parliament -TNA

President Maithripala Sirisena has
requested the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) to pass a proposal in Parliament on 05th of December requesting president to appoint new prime Minister as appointed Premier Mahinda Rajapakshe does not have the majority in Parliament During a meeting held in President's official residence this evening  (30).

At the meeting President has accepted that new Premier Mahinda does not have the majority of support in Parliament according to TNA.

Therefore President requested to pass a proposal to appoint a new prime minister according to due procedure TNA Has stressed.


Prices Of CPC Petrol And Diesel To Be reduced From Midnight Tonight

Prices of Petrol and Diesel of Ceylon
Petroleum Corporation (CPC)are scheduled to be reduced by Rs.5 with effect from midnight tonight  (30)according to the appointed Minister of Petroleum Resources Development Gamini lokuge.

Accordingly the prices of a Liter of Octane -92,Octane -95 Petrol  and Auto and Super Diesel will be reduced by Rs.5 he has stated.



Court Of Appeal Taken Up For Hearing The Petition Filed Against The Appointment Of New Premier And Cabinet

Court of Appeal has begun the hearing

of the petition filed at the Court by several political parties demanding to issue a writ order announcing appointed Premier Mahinda Rajapakshe has no legal right to hold premiership and the appointments of new Premier and his Cabinet illegal ,this noon  (30).

The Petition had been filed at Court of Appeal by United National Front ,Tamil National Alliance, Janatha Wimukthi Peramuna and Sri Lanka Muslim Congress with the affidavits of 122 MP's.

However the lawyers appeared before the court behalf of Appointed Premier Mahinda Rajapakshe have requested the Court to dismiss the petition without taking up for hearing.

The way the opposition has passed the no confidence motion is illegal and the convening of the Parliament before the court hearing of 07th of December is not valid they argued. Speaker has illegally suspended the standing orders and taken the vote for the No confidence motion they have stressed .


Bodies Of Two Police Constables Recovered In Batticaloa

Bodies of two Police Constables had
been recovered this morning  (30)near the Police post at Vavunathivu ,Batticaloa it has been reported.

The deceased Police Constables who were 28 and 35 year old restidents of KalmunaI and Galle areas died mysteriously according to reports.

The investigations over the death of two Police Constables handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department  (CID).

Parliament  Adjourned until 10.30
a.m on 05th of December by the speaker Karu Jayasuriya today  (30).

Parliament has convened today without the participation of Minority government MP's .

Minority government MP's who had boycotted today's parliamentary sessions  conducted a press briefing at Parliamentary Complex. 

A Proposal TO Cut Off Expenditure Of Government Ministries Has Been Passed By 122 Votes

A proposal submitted to the Parliament
today  (30)to cut off the expenditure of Government Ministries including expenditure for Minister's, Deputy Minister's, State Ministers ,Newly appointed Ministry secretsries and their personal staff has been passed with a majority of 122 votes .

MP Champika Ranawake of United National Front (UNF)has submitted the proposal to the Parliament this morning and MP Ranjith Madduma Bandara has confirmed it .MP's of minority government had boycotted today's parliamentary sessions as well.

MP's representing UNF,JVP, and TNA  had been voted in favour of the proposal .

Parliamentary session for today begun at 10.30 a.m under the patronage of Speaker Karu Jayasuriya. 






Imrprisoned Chief Of Defense Staff Had Been Transferred To Welikada Prison

The Chief of Defense Staff Rear Admiral
 Ravindra Wijegunaratna who has been remanded  yesterday  (28)has been transferred to Welikada Prison from Magazine prison in.Colombo .

The Chief of Defense Staff who was arrested after surrendering to the colombo Fort Magistrate through a  lawyer last evening had been arrested and remanded over given  protection to former Lieutinent Commander Prasad Hettiarachchi who is in remand over abduction and disappearance of 11 youth in.Colombo .

A Motorcyclist Had Been Killed Due To A Road Accident

A 32 year old Motorcyclist had been
killed after the Motorcycle he was riding in veering off the road and colliding with a nearby building at Delgaha Junction in Gurusinhagoda road ,Baddegama (Galle) this morning (29).

The deceased who was a chef in profession was on the way home after preparing meals for a party held  in Gurusinhagoda area last night it has been revealed .

The incident occurred due to a high speed of the Motorcycle according to Baddegama Police .

Two Persons Had Been Arrested With 1.905 Kilo Grammes Of Cannabis

Vavuniya Police have arrested two
persons whilst transporting 1.905 Kilo Grammes of Cannabis in a Bus travelling to Trincomalee near Thandikulam Junction on A-9 road ,Vavuniya in wee hours of this morning (29).

The suspects are 21 and 28 year old residents of Vijithapura, Kekirawa .A legal action is due to take against them.

Vavuniya Police are conducting an investigations over the incident. 



Arjun Aloysius And Kasun Palisena Had Been Further Remanded Over Central Bank Bond Scam

The owner of the Perpetual Treasuries
Limited Arjun Aloysius and Chief Executive Officer Kasun Palisena who are in remand over the Central Bank Bond Scam had been further remanded until 04th of December by the Colombo Fort Magistrate today (29).

The two suspects who have been remanded under the public properties act were further remanded after producing  before the court today .


TNA Has Informed President Sirisena, It Will Support A Government Lead By United National Front

Tamil National Alliance (TNA)has today
(29)informed the Prevident Maithripala Sirisena through a letter  ,it will support a government lead by United National Front (UNF) as UNF has the majority of support in Parliament.

In the letter TNA has stated the party has made this decision as the no confidence motion submitted against appointed Premier Mahinda Rajapakshe has been passed in the parliament with a majority of votes.

The letter sent to the President was signed by 14 TNA MP's including their leader and  opposition Leader R.Sambandan.

Meanwhile  TNA And UNP Leaders are due to meet President Maithripala Sirisena tomorrow (30)evening at Presidential Secretariet separately and hold discussions over the current political crisis .However Leftist Janatha  Wimukthi Peramuna  (JVP)has told in Parliament today (29 )the party will never negotiate with President as he has violated the Constitution severely. 

A Proposal TO Cut Off Expenditure For Prime Mimister's Office Has Been Passed By 123 Votes In Parliament -Minority Govt MP's Have Boycotted The Sessions

A proposal submitted by the United
National Party (UNP)to cut off the expenditure for Prime Minister's office has been passed  in Parliament today (29)by a majority of 123 votes.

Accordingly 123 MP"s have voted in favour of the proposal whilst no one  voted against it as the minority government MP's lead by Appointed Premier Mahinda Rajapakshe had boycotted today's parliamentary sessions for the second time of the week.

Parliament has convened this morning at 10.30 a.m under the patronage of Speaker Karu Jayasuriya.

UNP Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake has submitted the proposal to Parliament today and another UNP Parliamentarian Navin Dissanayake has confirmed the proposal .

The vote was conducted half through an electronic system and other half by name .

Only the Minister Of Education in minority Government WijeDasa Rajapakshe who has crossed over to the minority government from UNP Has seated in Government Bench during today's sessions .He has made a statement urging the need to hand over the government to the faction that has majority of support in Parliament.

The MP who had crossed over to the minority government and UNP time to time UNP Parliamentarian  Wasantha Senanayake has today voted in favour of the proposal.

Parliament has adjourned until 10.30 a. M tomorrow (30)by the speaker Karu Jayasuriya .

Meanwhile it has been reported that minority government MP's had a meeting at Parliament canteen during today's Parliament session.

President Has Agreed To Hold Further Discussions With UNF Leaders And Opposotion Leader To Find Solution For The Current Political Crisis-Speaker's Media Unit

President Maithripala Sirisena has
agreed to hold further discussions with United National Front  (UNF) Leaders and the opposition Leader R.Sambandan separately tomorrow ( 30) to find out a speedy solution for the current political conflict in the country ,During a meeting held between Speaker Karu Jayasuriya and President Maithripala Sirisena at Presidential Secretariet this evening(29)according to Speaker's Media Unit  .

Both the speaker and the President have discussed on the political conflict occurred in Parliament widely during the meeting  and accordingly speaker Jayasuriya has told the President Sirisena that after several leaders and factions have expressing   in parliament today a  speedy solution should be found for the current political  chaos in the country he has decided to meet president to discuss on the issue.

Speaker has shown that due to the uncertain political enviornment in the country several sectors including investment sector and tourism industry are in turmoil. Rupee is depreciating against the US Dollar further he has told  .

Three Passangers Had Been Killed And Twenty Injured Due To A Road Accident In Naththandiya

Three female  Passangers  Had been killed and around Twenty
 Passangers injured and hospitalized after the luxury bus they were travelling in from Jaffna to Colombo had veering off the road and toppled over to the Hamilton Canal in Walahapitiya ,Naththandiya area on Negambo -Chilaw road  this evening  (29).

The injured had been admitted to Marawila Base Hospital for treatment and the number of dead and injured Passangers may  be higher than the number that have been reported according to Marawila Police .Around 30-40 Passangers were travelling in the bus at the time of the incident according to reports.

The deceased were residents of Jaffna Police have stated.

The incident occurred due to the driver's inability to control the speed of the vehicle it has been revealed .

Marawila Police are conducting further investigations to find out the missing.

Parliament to meet today  (29)at 10.30
a.m.A party leaders meeting is scheduled to be held at 9 a.m this morning at the Parliamentary complex under the patronage of Speaker Karu Jayasuriya to discuss on today's agenda.

However Minority government MP's who had boycotted the laSt too parliamentary sessions have not yet been decided whether to participate in today's sessions it has been announced. They are due to be convened a meeting at Parliamentary Complex at 8.30 a.m today to decide whether to participate in today's party leaders conference and Parliamentary sessions .

The public and VIP Galleries are due to be closed today as well according to the sources .Security in and around Parliament to be tightened ahead of today's parliamentary sessions .
