All Government And Private Schools To Be Re Opened For Third Term Tomorrow (03)

All Government and Private schools
except 12 schools will be re - opened for the educational activities of the third term  tomorrow (02) after a month long holidays .

Accordingly 12 schools including Royal Collage ,Nalanda Collage and Hindu Collage in Colombo ,Kingswood ,Seethadevi Balika and Viharamahadevi Balika Collages in Kandy and Saint Anne's in Kurunagala   will not be re opened tomorrow due to the marking of answer scripts of the G.C.E Advanced Level Examination. They are due to be re opened for the third term on 16 th of September it has been announced .

Four Persons Arrested With A Haul Of Narcotics

Corruption Unit of the Kandy Police Division had arrested four persons with 1832 Mili Grammes of Kerala Cannabis and 217  Mili Grammes of Heroin in possesion at Katugasthota area yesterday  (31).

The suspects of the ages 20-30 years are scheduled to be produced before Kandy Magistrate Court today (01).

Two Persons Arrested With 6480 Kilo Grammes Of Waste Tea

Police have arrested two persons whilst transporting 6480 Kilo Grammes of Waste Tea at Nittambuwa area yesterday  (31) during a search operation carried out in the area .

The suspects who are residents of Muruthagahamula and Galaha areas are scheduled to be produced before the Attanagalla Magistrate Court today (01).

A Person Was Arrested With 10,000 Illegal Cigarette Sticks At Katunayake Airport

Airport Customs officers have arrested
a 30 year old small scale Businessman whilst attempting to smuggle around 10,000 Cigarette sticks illegally to the country at Katunayake ,Bandaranaike International Airport yesterday  (31 ).

The suspect who is a resident of Galle District had stored the stock of illegal Cigarette sticks inside his two luggage.

The estimated value of the stock of Cigarette sticks taken in to custody in possession of the suspect is around Rs.600,000 it has been revealed. The stock of illegal cigarettes is  scheduled to be confiscated it has been announced  .

A Case Against Former Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapakshe To Hear In A Special High Court Daily From 15th Of October

The special High Court Tribunal Judge panel has ordered the authorities to issue summons to four witnesses to appear before the Tribunal Judge Panel on 15th of October  to give evidence .

Navy along with Special Police Task Force personal have arrested three persons with 2.650 Kilo Gramees of Kerala Cannabis in possession during a search operation carried out at Udayapuram area in Mannar last Thursday (29).

The stock of Kerala Cannabis had wrapped in two parcels it has been reported.

The suspects who are of the ages 18,28 and 43 years are residents of Udayapuram in Mannar and they along with the stock of Kerala Cannabis  had been handed over  to the Mannar Police for further investigations .


Eight Fishermen Arrested Over Using Banned Fishing Nets For Fishing

The Naval officers attached to Eastern Naval command of the Sri Lanka Navy have today (30)arrested 08 Sri Lankan fishermen who had used banned fishing nets for fishing at Kokilayi area in Thricomalee .

Naval Officers have taken in to custody a banned fishing net ,fisheries equipment and Dinghy Boat long with the suspects and they are scheduled to be handed over to the Kuchchaweli Police for further investigations.

Two Persons Had Been Killed Due To Three Wheeler -Bus Collision

අදාළ රූපයTwo persons had been killed and four other had been injured and hospitalized after the Three Wheeler they were travelling in colliding with a Bus near Dankotuwa Hopsital in Dankotuwa-Pannala main road this morning (30).

The injured including two males and two females had been admitted to Dankotuwa Hospital for the treatment .

The deceased had been identified as the 59 year old Three Wheeler driver and a female travelling in the Three wheeler who were residents of Dankotuwa Hospital Road and Ravita areas.

Police have arrested the Bus driver regarding the incident .

Five Persons Including Two Children Injured Due To A Road Accident

Five persons including two children had been injured and hospitalized after the Three wheeler they were travelling in veering off the road and crashed in to a lamp post at nelulla area in Wellawaya-Thanamalwila main  Road last night (29).

The injured had been admitted to the Thanamalwila Base Hospital for treatment .The injured are residents of Malewanayaya in Wellawaya and they were travelling to Wellawaya from Hambegamuwa area at the time of the incident it has been revealed .

The incident occurred as a result of the driver fallen a sleep whilst on the wheel according to reports.

Supreme Court Ordered The Elections Commission To Conduct Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha

A Tribunal Judge panel of the Supreme
Court has today  (30)ordered the National Election Commission to conduct the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha Election .

The Tribunal Judge panel  has issued this order after considering a petition submitted by the Democratic United National Front over a rejection of it's nomination paper for the election of Elpitiya Pradeshiya sabah. 

In the petition the petitioner had argued that the rejection of the nomination paper was illegal .

After considering the petition Supreme Court Judge panel has ordered the select officer of the Elpitiya Pradeshiya sabah to accept the rejected nomination list of the Democratic United National Front.

Meanwhile National Elections Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya   has said today that the suspended election of the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha will be held during the first week of October.

Supreme Court had issued an interim order to the Election Commission  to suspend   the Elections   of the Pradeshiya sabah until the conclusion of the inquiry on the petition . 

A Person Was Injured And Hospitalized Due To A Collapsing Of A Lift

A laborer had been critically injured
and hospitalized after the lift of a newly constructed building at Marawila Base Hospital had collapsed this noon (30).

The injured who is a laborer attached to the newly constructed building of the Hospital had been admitted to the Marawila Base Hospital for teatment and later transferred to Colombo National Hospital for furher treatment.

The lift was collapsed as a result of a broken wire it has been revealed.

Hospital authorities ordered the construction company which handling the construction work of the new building to halt the construction work immediately until an inquiry over the incident is concluded. 

A Heavy Traffic Congestion At Duplication Road

Police have requested the Motorists to
use an alternative routes due to a heavy traffic congestion  occurred in Duplication Road from Colpetty to Wellawatta few hours ago following the rain .

UNP To Conduct Disciplinary Inquiry Against It's MP's Rathana Thero And Wijedasa Rajapakshe

Governing United National Party (UNP
)Has decided to conduct a Disciplinary inquiry against two of the Party MP's Athuraliye Rathana Thero and Wijedasa Rajapakshe today (30)over criticizing the party in public.

UNP is due to send a letter of explanation to both MP's today according to sources.

Athuraliye Rathana Thero is a National List MP Of the UNP and Wijedasa Rajapakshe had been elected to the Parliament from Colombo District under the UNP Ticket . 

Navy Have Fired Warning Gun Shots To Stop A Suspicious Boat

Sri Lanka Navy have fired warning gun
shots to stop a suapicious fisheries boat which attempted to flee away when checking at PulmudaI sea coast area last  morning  (29).Navy have later arrested four persons in the Boat including an injured person it has been revealed.

When checking the suspicious fisheries boat Navy officers have found that the boat do not have any fisheries equipment a valid licence or an indentification documents  . 



Sports Instructor Who Had Sexually Assaulted 13 Students Had Been Interdcited

The 44 year old Sports instructor
attached to Al Nuraniya Muslim Collage at Gala uda, HAli Ela who was responsible for sexually assaulting 13 students of the school had been interdicted by the Uva Provincial Educational authorities today  (29).

This action has been taken after conducting an inquiry on the accused Instructor Ramachandran Ramesh who had been sexually assaulted 13 students of the school including a female student.

Earlier it has been revealed that the accused Sports instructor had sexually assaulted  five male students and a female student. How ever later the number of complaints received by the police against him had risen to  13 .

Alomg with the two Sri Lanka Freedom Party National List MP's 35 SLFP local Government body MP's ,04 former Parliamentarians and a group of SLFP District members have also obtained the membership of Podu Jana Peramuna party today  it has been revealed

Meanwhile Sri Lanka Freedom Party lead by President Maithripala Sirisena had decided to take a Disciplinary action against two of the party s National List MP's and other local government body members who had joined Podu Jana Peramuna by considering them as vacate from the party  according to SLFP Media Spokesman MP Weerakumara Dissanayake .

Earlier S.B Dissanayake had been removed from the  treasurer post of  Sri Lanka Freedom Party and from its central committee over participating the National Assembly  of Podu Jana Peramuna. 

Eight Passangers Injured Due To The Lorry -Train Collision

Eight Passangers had been injured two
of them critically and hospitalized after the train they were travelling in colliding with a Lorry carrying bricks as the Lorry driver had mistakenly reversed the  vehicle to the Rail Track near Peters Lane in Dehiwala this evening  (29).

The injured Passangers who were  travelled on the footboard of the Train  had been admitted to the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital for treatment .

The Train was travelling Colombo to Galle at the time of the incident .

Two Trains Survived From Colliding Each Other At Maradana Yesterday (28)-Four Workers Attached To A Train Interdicted Over The Incident

Two Passanger Trains traveling from
Colombo Fort to Chilaw and Maradana to Kalutara  had survived from a head on collision  each other near the Kovil at Maradana last morning  (28).

No one was injured due to the incident accordance to the Railway Control Room .

The incident occurred when the Train number 741 had travelled avoiding train signals it has been revealed .As a result of the incident A Train delay had occurred for few hours in the main Railway line last morning .

Sri Lanka Railways Department Had interdicted the Engine driver ,Assistant Engine Driver, Chief guard and Assistant Guard of the train that avoided signals regarding the incident. A minor board had been  also appointed to probe on the incident.

A Male Teacher Of A Muslim School Who Had Been Charged Over Sexually Assaulting 11 Students Had Surrendered To The Police

A 44 year old male teacher attached to
a Muslim Collage at Gala uda ,Hali-Ela,in Badulla who had been charged over severley  sexually assaulting  11 students imcluding a female student and 10 male students of that school had surrendered to the Badulla Police yesterday (28).

Earlier complaints had been recieved by the Badulla police against the suspected teacher over sexually assaulting six students including a female student of the ages 15 and 16 and later the number of complaints had risen to 11 according to Police.

The suspect is due to be produced before the Badulla Magistrate Court today (29).

Chief Justice Appointed Three Special Tribunal.Judge Panels To Hear Three Major Court Cases

Yesterday (28)appointed  three special Tribunal Judge panels to hear the court cases of three major incidents occurred during previous regime of the  former  President Mahinda Rajapakshe including  Rathupaswela crack down ,Floating Armory issue and abduction and assassination of cartoonist Prageeth   Eknaligoda .

These Special Tribunal Judge Panels had been appointed accordance to the request made by Attorney General Dappula De Livera to hear these cases as special crime incidents .

Accordingly a Special three member Tribunal Judge panel chaired by High Court Judge Menaka Wijesundara had been appointed to hear  the crack down of  Rathupaswela incident  during previous regime where Three Persons had been  killed  and fourty six persons injured when the forces opened fire towards a group.of protesters demanding pure water .The case was filed against an   Army Brigadier and Three other Army officers who had been involved in the crackdown .

Second special Tribunal.Judge Panel chaired by High Court Judge Sampath Abeykoon had been appointed to hear the case against 09 Army officers including Two Lieutinent General's over abducting and assassinating cartoonist Prageeth Eknaligoda and the third Special Tribunal Judge Panel had been appointed to hear the case on maintaining a floating armoury in southern seas filed against 18 persons including the Secretary of National Police Commission and Avant-Guarde company chairman. High Court Judge Dammika ganepola chaired that  Special Tribunal. 



University Activities Are Being Paralysed Due To The Ongoing Strike Of Non Academic Staff

Due to the two day island wide strike
action  launched by Non academic staff of all state universities today  (28) academic and administrative activities of the universities are being paralysed according to University Trade Unions Joint Committee comprising of 18 Trade unions.

Academic activities as well As research and office work of all the state run universities are being paralysed as a result  of the strike the Joint Committe has announced .

The University Non Academic staff had launched the two day strike to force the authorities to solve their salary anomaly problem  according to the Trade union activists .

Meanwhile University Academic staff too had threatened that they will launch an Island Wide strike within two weeks time demanding solutions for theit seevice  demands. 

A Suspect Had Been Sentenced A Rigorous Life Time Imprisonment Over Possessing 344 Grammes Of Heroin

Kaluarachchi had today  (28)sentenced a person who was in remand custody over crime charges a rigorous life time imprisonment over possessing 344 Grammes of Heroin at Welikada Prison.

The accused who had been remanded over nine criminal offences had found possessing the haul of Heroin whilst in remand custody on 03rd of March 2012 and after hearing the case against him he had been found guilty over the charge it has been revealed.

The suspect is a resident of Dematagoda area according to reports. 

Police Fired Tear Gas And Water Cannons To Disperse A University Students Protest March

Riot Police have fired tear gas and high
preassure water cannons to disperse a Protest march of University students belongs to Inter University Students Federation (IUSF) at Lotus junction in Colombo this Evening (28).

The protesters who had launched the  protest march from Technical Junction in Colombo Fort this noon by demamding to ptovide solutions for several demands imcluding removing  the private University Act had marched towards the Lotus Junction and when they have attempted to march towards the presidential secretariet  riot police have fired tear gas and water cannons to disperse them. .

Police have closed down the Lotus Road due to the  heavy traffic congestion crested as a result of the protest march .

A heavy traffic had been prevailed in and around Technical Junction and Colombo Fort for few hours as a result of the protest .

Three Persons Along With Nine Thousand Liters Of Artificial Toddy Taken In To Custody In Marawila

Excise Department officials have today 
(27)taken in to custody around 9000 Liters of Artificial Toddy along with three Persons who had disturbed the search operation of officials at Thal Vila and Muhudukatuwa areas in Marawila. 

The officials have also taken in to custody a large number of Barrels and Tanks which utilised to store Toddy from the site .

The estimated value of the Artificial Toddy taken in to custody is around Rs.1.2 million it has been revealed  .

The Three suspects are due to be produced before Marawila Magistrate Court on 04th of September. 




AG Filed Indictments Against Former Chief JMO In Colombo Over Destroying Evidence Of Thajudeen s Murder

had today (27 ) filed indictments at Colombo High Court against Former Chief Judicial Medical Officer(JMO) in Colombo Dr.Ananda Samarasekare over destroying an important evidence related to the murder of former Rugger player Wasim Thajudeen .

The indictments against Dr.Samarasekare had been handed over before the Colombo High Court Judge Manjula Thilakaratne .

Afterwards Colombo High Court Judge had released Dr.Samarasekare on two surety bails of Rs. One million each and a cash bail of Rs.25,000 .

The lawyer appear before Dr.Samarasekare had informed the Court that he is expecting to submit an objection against the case filed against his client . 

Another Two Activists Of Banned National Thowheed Jamaath Organization Had Been Arrested

Police Division had arrested another two activists of Banned Extremist group National Thowheed Jamaath Organization and members of Jammathe Millathe Ibrahim who had recieved Arms training with Chief Easter Sunday attacks suspect Mohommad Zahran  at Ampara today  (27).

The two suspects who are residents of polgolla and Mawanalla areas had received arms training in Nuwara Eliya and Hambanthota camps with Zahran it has been revealed .

The two suspects had been arrested accordance to the information provided by State Intelligence Unit office  in Ampara .



A Tamil Youth Arrested Over Attempting To Fly France From Fraudulant Passport And Visas

Immigration and Emigration officials
attached to Katunayake Airport have this morning  (27)arrested a 31 year old Jaffna based Tamil youth whilst attempting to fly France via Dubai through fraudulant passport and visas at the Emigration section of the Katunayake Airport.

The suspected youth had indicated that he is flying to Maldives ,But attempted to fly France by an Emirates flight it has been revealed.

He had prepared his passport which owned by a Youth in Kaththankudy, Batticaloa by deleting the owners details through a chemical Immigration and Emigration officials have said .

However the officials have recovered  this fraud when they have checked the documents possessed by the suspect due to suspicion .

The documents possessed by the suspect had been handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department  (CID )attached to the Airport  for further investigations. 

Government Radiographers Union Requested DGHS To Take Action Against Bogus Radiographers In Private Hospitals

Government Radiographers Union had
requested  the Director General Of Health Services (DGHS)Dr.Anil Jasinghe yesterday (26)to take an action against hundreds of unregistered  Bogus Radiographers attached to Private Hospitals as their presence will affect the Radiography Tests badly .

These Bogus Radiographers do not have basic qualifications to become a Radiographer and even not registered under the Sri Lanka Medical Council accordance to The Union Secretary DharmaKeerthi Epa.

However these Bogus group.of Radiographers in Private Hospitals have recently form a union amd even raised funds for it he has stressed .

Attorney General himself had confirmed that Bogus Radiographers will be harmful to the society during a court case  against a bogus Radiographer of one of the leading Private hospitals Union Secretary has further added.
