A 8 Year Old Wild Elephant Calf Fallen In To A Well Had Been Rescued

Wild Life officers attached to
Welikanda Wild Life office in polonnaruwa have rescued a 8 year old Elephant Calf who had fallen to a small  Well at Kalingawila Village in Welikanda area early this morning (13)after a one and half hour mission.

The Rescued Elephant calf had later released to the Aselapura reserve.

The villagers of Kalingawila had informed on the Elephant calf to the Wild Life officers after heard his screem.As per the information a group of Wild Life officers arrived in the scene had taken out the Elephant calf from the well by cutting the bund of the well with the assistance of villagers and Civil Defense Force .

Training Period Of PHI's Has Been Extended From Six Months

Ministry Of Health has extended the
training period of Public Health Inspectors(PHI's) by six months ,from One and half years to Two years .

The Circular regarding extending the training period of Public Health Inspectors  (PHI's) has been issued at a Diploma Presenting Ceremony of 630 newly trained PHI's held at Hotel Galadari recently .

Addressing at the event Health Minister Dr.Rajitha Senaratne has said that all Health Categories currently receives Diploma courses will be entitled to Graduate programmes shortly .


A "Ford Musrang"Motor Car Earlier Belongs To MP Namal Rajapakshe And Under FCID Custody Was Released On Bond

Kaduwela Magistrate Court has
released a Luxurious "Ford Mustang "Motor Car which was sold by the MP Namal Rajapakshe to another person and later taken in to custody by Financial Crimes Investigations Division (FCID) as a legal item of a case filed against former President Mahinda Rajapakshe s second son Yoshitha  Rajapakshe ,back to new owner on a bond .

The Car was taken in to custody by the FCID on 05 th of September 2016 while at a garage in Kaduwela and parked it at the FCID Premises in Colombo Fort.

According to the new owner of the Car it was imported by the MP Namal Rajapakshe from a duty free car permit received  as a Parliamentarian and sold to him .

Although the Motor Car was released after two years since taken in to custody owner has agreed to the court that he will produce it before the court when requested as the court case related to the car is  still  pending . 

A 38 Year Old Pakistani National Was Arrested With A Haul Of Heroin

A 38 year old Pakistani National Was
Arrested by the Police Anti Narcotic Bureau officials in wee hours of this morning (13)at the Arrival lounge of Katunayake, Bandaranaike International Airport with 2.426 Kilo Grammes of Heroin in his possession.

The Suspect who had arrived in from Doha,Qatar  has hidden the haul of Heroin inside a fake bottom of his luggage it has been revealed.

The estimated value of the haul of Heroin taken in to custody in possession of the suspect is nearly Rs.30 Million.This was the sixth time the suspect has arrived in Sri Lanka according to authorities.

A Bomb Scare Caused A Tense Situation At A Popular Girls School In Negambo

A tense situation had occurred in a
popular girls school in Negambo yesterday (12)after an anonymous phone call had been rechived by the school principal saying there was  a Time bomb placed at the school premises and evacuate the students from the school as a result within 20 minutes.

As a safety messure all the students of the school had been evacuated and moved towards a nearby ground by the School principal And staff.

However the Bomb disposing squad of the Army and Police had searched the school premises to find out whether  there was  a bomb and found nothing in the school premises it has been revealed.

Police and Criminal Investigations Department  (CID)have launched an investigation regarding the Anonymous phone call received by the School principal which caused the Bomb scare

A Person Has Died After Consuming "Babul" Betel Leaves

A 48 year old person has died after
consuming intoxicated "Babul"Betel leaves at Hatton Railway station last Wednesday night (10).

The deceased who was a resident of Mattakkuliya area had faced this incident Whilest at the Hatton  Railway station awaiting to travel from Colombo Fort night mail Train it has been revealed.

The deceased has arrived in Hatton Railway station after visiting a relatives house at Hatton with family members.

The Post mortem of the deceased has been conducted at Dikoya Base Hospital and according to the Post Mortem report the deceased  has died due to consuming "Betel "Leaves.

A 49 Year Old British National Has Drowned At Benthota Sea Area

A 49 year old British National has
drowned after being drifted away by the sea waves whilest bathing in Benthota sea area and another person has drowned and injured in the same sea area last evening  (11).

The body of the deceased had been recovered and the injured had been rescued and adnitted to Nagoda Hospital for treatment .

Benthota Police are conducting an investigations over the incident. 

A Person Was Arrested With A Stock Of "Wallapatta " At Katunayake Airport

A 43 year old Sri Lankan Businessman
had been arrested by the Airport Customs officers  whilest attempting to smuggle 23 Kilo Grammes of an expensive "Wallapatta" (Gyrinops Walla)to Dubai, at the Katunayake, Bandaranaike International Airport this morning  (12).

The suspect who is a resident of Naththandiya area has hidden the stock of "Wallapatta" use to make an expensive perfumes ,inside his luggage. He was attempted to board a Gulf Air flight flying to Dubai via Baharain at the time of his arrest.

The estimated value of the stock of WALLAPATTA taken in custody in.possession of the suspect is around Rs.2.3  million it has been revealed.

A Person Was Critically Injured Due To Motor Car -Train Collision -Wife Escaped While Husband Was In The Car

A 57 year old Person Was critically injured and hospitalized
 after the Motor Car he was driving in Colliding with a Train travelling from Aluthgama to Galle when attempting to cross the Railway crossing at Nagaratne road in Galle this morning  (12).

The critically injured person who is a resident of GInThota area  has been admitted to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital for treatment.Later he was transferred to a normal Ward it has been revealed.

The Wife of the injured who was also in the Car at the time of the incident had escaped by getting out of the car after seen the arrival of the Train it has been reported.

Price Of White Sugar To Be Reduced From Midnight Tonight

The price of White sugar to be reduced with effect from midnight tonight (12)according to the Consumer Affairs Authority.

Accordingly the maximum retail Price of a Kilo of Non Packetted White Sugar will be reduced to Rs.100 and a maximum price of  a Kilo of Packetted White Sugar will be reduced to Rs.105 .

Suppliers ,Distributors and Traders should not have sold the White sugar more than the given prices and Sugar Importers should be sold a Kilo Gramme of White Sugar to Rs.92 the Authority has said.

A legal action will be taken against those  who are not selling the White sugar for the fixed prices the Consumer Affairs Authority has stated.

The price reduction of the White sugar will be implemented as per the recommendation of Cost of Living Committee attached to the Cabinet .

A Female Passanger Was Killed And 50 Others Injured Due To A Collision Of Two Buses

A 74 year old female passanger was
killed and around 50 passangers have been injured and hospitalized due to a collision of two buses near the Bus stand at Lunugamvehera on Hambanthota -Wellawaya main road this morning (12).

The injured including the drivers of two buses have been admitted to the Hambanthota Base,Lunugamvehera and Denmbarawewa Hospitals for treatment where the critically injured female had succumbed to her injuries at Hambanthota Hospital.

The incident occurred when a Private Bus travelling from Matara to Ampara had collided with a Sri Lanka Transport Board Bus travelling from Dehiatta kandiya to Matara it has been revealed.

Supreme Court Judge Nalin Perera Has Sworn In As New Chief Justice

Supreme Court Judge Nalin Perera has  sworn in as the new Chief Justice of Sri Lanka today (12)before the President Maithripala Sirisena at Presidents official residence in Colombo .

He has been appointed as the replacement  for the outgoing Chief Justice Priyasad Depp who had retired today.

The senior Supreme Court Judge Nalin Perera was nominated as the suitable candidate for the Chief Justice post by President Sirisena and sent his name to the Constitutional Council for approval.

The Council met today had approved the name of Supreme Court Judge Nalin Perera for the post.
