Heavy Traffic In Town Hall And Colombo-Negambo Main Road Due To Protests

protest in clip art සඳහා පින්තුර ප්‍රතිඵලA heavy traffic has been reported from Town Hall and Colombo-Negambo main road since this morning as the Three Wheeler drivers have conducted   protest rallies to oppose the increasing of minimum traffic violations fine to Rs.2500 through the budget.

Three Wheeler drivers blocked the Town Hall and Galekanda junction of Colombo-Negambo main road due to the protest which caused heavy traffic in these areas it has been reported.

Police Protection Given To Sri Lanka Transport Board Buses After Few Of Their Buses Being Attacked

 Sri Lanka Transport Board has today requested the Police Department to provide police protection to their buses  after  some unidentified persons pelted stones on few SLTB Buses operated today to minimize the effect caused due to the ongoing island wide Private Bus/Three Wheeler strike .

Work In State/Private Institutions And Schools Paralyzed To Certain Extent Due To The Private Bus/Three Wheeler Strike

private buses and three wheelers sri lanka සඳහා පින්තුර ප්‍රතිඵලWork in State / Private Institutions and schools  have been  paralyzed to certain extent today(02) as most of the workers and students in these institutions not reported to work  and schools  due to the ongoing island wide private bus/Three Wheeler  strike it has been reported.

Several Private Bus Unions and Three Wheeler Union  in the country had launched an Island Wide strike from midnight yesterday (01)to oppose the increasing  of minimum traffic violations fine to Rs.2500 from the budget.

Although Railway Trade Unions have withdrawn from the strike at the last moment following the discussions held with President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday ,number of passengers traveling through most of the trains today dropped by around 50% according to the authorities.

Ministry Of Transport has deployed extra buses belonging to  Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) to minimize the affect caused due to the Private Bus/Three Wheeler strike according to the Ministry.

Meanwhile due to the strike school van and bus services too not operated in most parts of the country since this morning according to reports.

US Vice President Elect Mike Pence Phoned President Sirisena And Held Talks

US vice president elect Mike Pence has today (01) phoned the President  Maithripala Sirisena and held bi lateral talks with him according to the President's Media Division.

The US Vice President elect and Sri Lankan president have discussed the  ways of strengthening US-Sri Lanka ties under the  administration of president elect Donald Trump it has been reported.

The US Vice president elect Mike Pence has promised President Sirisena that he will arranged a meeting between Sri Lankan President and US president elect  Donald Trump .

The two had also discussed on disaster management and maritime security according to reports.

Six Students Were Injured And Hospitalized Due To A Bus Accident In Diyathalawa

Six students were injured and hospitalized early this
morning following  the  Bus they were travelling in veered off the road on Galedanda-Diyathalawa road .

The injured students were admitted to  Diyathalawa Hospital for treatment.


Police have arrested the Bus driver regarding the accident.

National STD/AIDS Control Programme And Ministry Of Health Jointly Commemorated The World AIDS Day

STD/AIDS Control Programme and Ministry Of Health today (01) jointly commemorated the World AIDS Day by conducting a AIDS Walk with the participation of around 2500 health personal and activists from Ministry of Health to Campball Park in Colombo.

After the participents reached the Campball Park around 10 a.m this morning official World AIDS Day ceremony was held there under the patronage of Director General Of Health Services Dr.Palitha Mahipala.

During the ceremony the national stratagic communication initiative and the road map on acrivities to be  carried out to make spreading of HIV/AIDS in society to zero  by the year 2025 had been launched.

Government Has allocated Rs. 180 Million To provide Computer TABS To Fishermen

Government has allocated Rs.180 million for next
year(2017) to provide Computer Tabs to local Fishermen according to the Minister of fisheries Mahinda Amaraweera.

The decision to providing Tabs to fishermen has been taken after considering three factors which caused the European Union to impose a fishing ban on Sri Lanka during the previous regime Minister has stated.

Education Ministry Has Suspended The Service Of Principal Attached To Muslim Girls School In Kandy

Secretary to the Ministry Of Education
has today(01)suspended the service of Principal attsched to Badiuddeen Mahmud Girls School in Kandy over purchasing Uniform Materials and distributed among school children instead of distributing uniform vouchers provided by the Ministry.

Ministry Of Education had distributed uniform vouchers to School Principals this year  instead of uniform materials provided by the previous government to distribute them  Among  school children.Uniform Vouchers had been issued to schools this year  in view of saving  unnecessary expenditure  on purchasing Uniform Materials the Education Ministry has stated.

However the suspended principal has been reported as purchasing Uniform Materials from another place and distributed among school children without distributing the vouchers.

Lanka Indian Oil Company Has Increased The Price Of Two Varieties of Diesel

Lanka Indian Oil Company(LIOC) has increased the
price of two varieties of Diesel with effect from today (01).

According to the Company the price of  Extra Mile and Extra Premium Euro 03 Diesel price by two rupees. However this price revision will not effect the normal Diesel Price LIOC has stated.

Colombo Magistrate Court Lifted The Overseas Travel Ban Imposed On Former Defense Secretary And Seven Others

court order සඳහා පින්තුර ප්‍රතිඵලThe Colombo Magistrate's Court has today(01) lifted the overseas travel ban imposed on former Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapakshe and seven others over the controversial "Avant Guarde" floating armory case with conditions .

When the case on "Avant Guarde" floating armory issue taken up today at the Colombo Magistrate Court the Magistrate has given approval conditionally to lifting  the overseas travel ban imposed on former Defense Secretary and seven other suspects in the case  as per the request made by their attorneys.

However while granting approval to lifting  the overseas travel ban imposed on  the suspects Colombo Magistrate has stated that the decision should be notified to registrar of the Colombo Magistrate Court and Bribery Commission.

Twelve Passengers Were Injured And Hospitalized Due To A Bus Accident In Gokarella

The injured were admitted to the Gokarella District Hospital for treatment.

The Bus traveling from Anuradhapura to Kurunagala was veered off the road following the Bus driver lost it's control .

Gokarella Police have arrested the Bus driver regarding the accident.

Railway Trade Unions Withdrawn From The Scheduled Island Wide Strike Today(01)-Private Bus Unions To Go Ahead With The Strike

According to the Joint Railway Trade Unions Front they have received solutions for the demands during the discussion held with president.

However the Private Bus Trade Unions led by All Ceylon Private Bus Owners Association have decided to go ahead with their island wide strike action from midnight tonight against the budget proposal on  increasing of  minimum traffic fine to Rs.2500 .
