Dengue Patients Are Being Reported From Every District-National Dengue Control Unit

 Dengue patients are being reported from every
district of the country at present due to the various environmental factors according to the national co-ordinator of National Dengue Control Unit Dr Hasitha Thissera.

Due to this situation it is very important that every person in the society should contribute to the National Dengue Programme  by destroying Dengue mosquito breeding places in their areas Dr.Thissera has stated.

Around 14 districts have been identified as Dengue Risk Zones and Colombo District is the highest affected district  with 14 out of the 15 provincial secretariats in the district have been identified as Dengue Risk Zones.

Sri Lanka Navy Have Arrested 14 Indian Fishermen While Illegally Fishing In Sri Lankan Waters

Sri Lanka Navy have arrested 14 Indian fishermen while illegally
fishing in Sri Lankan waters in Thalaimannar area and the sea area near Delft Island .

Accordingly eight Indian fishermen have been arrested in the sea area near Delft Island with two trawlers and six fishermen were arrested in the sea area of Thalaimannar area with a trawler boat while fishing through banned bottom trawling system .

The two groups of Indian fishermen along with their trawlers and equipment are due to be handed over to the assistant directors of fisheries in Jaffna and Thalaimannar respectively for future course of action.

Two Persons Arrested With 135 Kilo Grammes Of Kerala Cannabis

Navy personal along with narcotic bureau officials in
Mannar District have arrested two persons while transporting  135 kilo grammes of Kerala Cannabis by a Cab in Swamithottam area at Thalaimannar (Northern Province).

The two suspects along with the stock of Kerala Cannabis have been handed over to the Mannar police for future course of action.


More Than 100,000 Persons In Puttalam District Are Affected Due To A Severe Drought

Although several districts in the North and North
western provinces are being faced a drought these days  due to the dry weather prevailing there,Puttalam District has been reported as the worst drought hit area as more than  100,000 persons in the district are currently affected due to the drought according to sources.

Out of the 16 provincial  divisions in the Puttalam District around 14 are affected due to the drought it has been reported.The water resources including tube wells have been dried up and people in Puttalam have faced enormous difficulties when getting pure water to drink and to other requirements the authorities have stated.

The state minister of Irrigation and water resources management Range Bandara has instructed the authorities to provide relief including pure drinking water to the affected people in Puttalam and avoid spreading diseases among them due to the drought.

A six year old girl was killed due to a wild elephant
attack in Kawanthissapura area at Serunuwara today25).

The deceased girl was attacked and killed by the elephant while she was walking along the road in mangala wewa area.She was a resident of Kawanthissapura area.

Police Have arrested Another University Student Leader Regarding Damaging Health Ministry Properties

Police have arrested another student leader the
former president of the students union  of the University of Aesthatic Studies in Colombo regarding forcibly entering the Ministry Of Health building and damaged its properties , at Siyambalanduwa area today (25)while in hiding.

The suspect was hiding in a house at the time of his arrest.

He was charged over forcibly entering the Ministry building ,damaging its properties and obstruction to police duties and due to be  produced before the Monaragala Magistrate Court tomorrow (26).

Three Persons Were Killed And Two Children Injured Due To A Three Wheeler-Tipper Collision

Three persons were killed and two children were
injured and hospitalized after the Three wheeler they were travelling in colliding with a Tipper Truck in Hungama area (Southern Province)on Colombo-Kataragama road in wee hours of this morning (25).

The injured children have been admitted to the Hambanthota Base Hospital for treatment.

A head on collision occurred between the Three wheeler travelling to Kataragama and a Tipper Truck travelling towards Tangalle the Police have stated,

Police Department To Arrest Many University/ Medical Students Who Have Damaged The Health Ministry Property

The department of police has deployed several police
teams to arrest many university/medical students who have forcibly entered the Ministry Of Health last week and damaged it's properties it has been revealed.

Police department has identified around 100 students who were involved in the incident through CCTV Cameeas fixed in the Ministry and they are in hiding at the moment the Department has stated.

The investigations regarding  the property damage  of  the Health Ministry is being carried out under the direct supervision of DIG In Colombo.

SAITM To Be Changed As A Joint Semi Government Project

The administrative structure of the SAITM (private
medical collage in Malabe) will be changed and it will be functioned as a joint  project with the psrticipation of state and private sectors according to a special notification issued by the Presidential Secreteriat today (25) regarding SAITM.

A special gazette notification will be issued regarding the changes scheduled to be implemented on SAITM and until the conditions of the gazette are fullfilled recruiting of new students and awarding degrees in SAITM will be suspended the Notification has stated.

In an earlier occassion Minister of Higher Education Lakshman Kiriella too has mentioned on  the government's decision to suspend the recruiting of new students to the SAITM and halting awarding degrees to it's students .

The minimum standard of the medical education in Sri Lanka too will be gazetted soon the notification has revealed.

Meanwhile the Inter University Students Federation has stated that it will never accepted the notification issued by Presidential Secreteriat regarding the SAITM.

Carriages Of "Udarata Manike" Passanger Train Detached From The Engine This Evening

The carriages  of "Udarata Manike "Passanger Train
running from Colombo Fort to Badulla had been  detached from the engine at Singimale Tunnel area in Hatton this evening (25)and as a result  the engine running many feets away after the detachment  Authorities have stated.

However no passangers were harmed due to the incident.

The engine was attached to the caariages again and the train re commenced it"s journey afterwards . However a technical default again appeared in the train  it has been reported.
