Counting Of Ballot Papers Had Begun In 77 Centers

The counting of ballot papers of the
parliamenrary Election held yesterday (05) had begun at 8 am this morning (06)in 77 Counting Centers according to the National Election Commission .

All Ballot boxes of yesterday's election had been brought to the counting Centers amid security last night and they were opened this morning to count in the presence of political party representatives the Commission has stated.

Election Commission is expecting to release the first official election result around 2.30 -3 p.m this evening and the final All island results by midnight tonight. Preferential vote results are scheduled to be announced tomorrow (07).

At yesterday's election 71 percent out of the total number of registered voters had  cast their  votes it has been revealed .

According to the police the Election was held in peacefull manner by adapting Corona Control Health Guidelines. However 34 persons were arrested by the police yesterday over breaking election rules .

Thirteen Corona Postrives Had Been Discharged From.Hospitals Yesterday (05)

Thirteen Corona positives had been
discharged from hospitals yesterday  (05)after full recovery according to Epidemeology Unit.

Accordingly the total number of Corona positives discharged from hospitals after full recovery had risen to 2537 .

Five Corona Positives Reported Yesterday (05)

A total of 05 Corona positives had been
reported in the Country yesterday (05),Increasing the total number of Corona positives reported so far to 2839 according to the Epidemeology Unit. 

Accordingly Out of the first four Corona positives reported yesterday ,Two were arrivals from United Arab Emirates, one was an inmate of the Senapura Rehabilitation Center and one was an arrival From   chennai ,India the unit has stared.

At the moment 291 Corona positives are being treated at Government Hospitals. 

Overall 71 Percent Voter Turnout Reported In General Elections Held Today (05)- Counting Of Votes To Begin At 8 A.M Tomorrow (06)

Overall 71 percent out of the total
number of registered voters in the island had voted in today 's (05)Parliamentary Election concluded at 5 p.m. according to the chairman of the National Election Commission Mahinda Deshapriya.

Most of the 23 Electorates had been recorded over 70 percent voter turnout  including  Colombo District  (72 percent) ).

The lowest voter turnout had been reporated  from Kurunagala ,Puttalam ,Galle and Jaffna districts according to the Chairman of the Election Commission.


Only two major incidents related to the Election violences had been Occured during the voting today including the incident which the Forner Prime minister Mahinda Rajapakshe had entered several polling stations at Kurunagala District during the voting with 200  auppprtes of him and the roads nearby were blocked as a result according to local Election monitors

In another incident candidate prasanna ranaweera of Sri Lanka People's progressive party (SLPP-Pohottowa )had assaulted a Muslim voter it has  been reported .

Meanwhile all ballot boxes had been transported to counting Centers this evening  soon after concluding the voting  and counting is scheduled to begin at 8 a. m tomorrow (06).The first election result is being expected to release around 2.30 p.m tomorrow evening and the last at midnight tomorrow Election Commission Chairman has stated .
