Colombo Grand Mosque Has Announced The Begining Of The Ramadan Fast

After the sighting of new moon,The Colombo Grand Mosque has today (16) announced that the Month of Ramadan fasting of the Muslim Community wil begin at the dawn of this Friday(18).

However majority of Muslim Countries including Saudi Arabia had earlier announced that the Month of Ramadan fasting will begin tomorrow(17) as the new moon was not visible.

Meanwhile Cabinet has approved to import a proposal on importing 250 metric tonnes of Dates from Saudi Arabia  to Sri Lanka in view of distribute them among Muslim families with exonomic difficulties in the country through Muslim Churches .

The Cabinet proposal in this regars had been submitted to the Cabinet by the Prime Minister and Minister of Islsmic Affairs.

Meanwhile Saudi Arabia has not provided Dates to the Muslim Community of Sri Lanka this year as in previous years it has been revealed.

Economic Expert And Former Minister MP Bandula Gunawardane Had Given Wrong Statistics On Kerosene Oil Prices

One of the most notable incidents occurred on Tuesday(15) is that the wrong statistics given to media by the so called Economic Expert,Well known tutor of Economics and the Former Economic Minister of the Country ,Joint Opposition MP Bandula Gunawardana during a press briefing held in Colombo over prices of Kerosene Oil.

During the Briefing he has revealed that a liter of Kerosene Oil costs Rs.111 in 2014 during previous regime and now with the new price increase it increased to Rs.157 .However after the Media personal there reminding  him that the price of a Kerosene Liter has been increased from Rs.44 to Rs.101 not to  Rs.157 as he mentioned, The former Minister says I have to look back again  on the sttistics then.

MP Gunawardana however is a strong critic of the Government's economic policies ,But this time he has proved that his knowledge on the Economics is poor as other politiciens of the countrt
y.

Spill Gates Of Udawalawe Reservoir And Kala Wewa Have Been Opened Due To Rising Water Levels

Five Spill gates of the Udawalawe Reservoir and Two Spill gates of the Kala Wewa(River) have been opened this evening(16) due to the rising water levels of the reservoir and the Wewa as a result of the heavy showers prevailing in  according to the Disaster Management Center.

Due to this situation the people living in low land areas around the Udawalawe Reservoir and Kala Wewa are being advised to be vigilant over possible floods.

Train Services Of Upcountry Railway Line Have Been Disrupted Due To A Collapsing Of A Soil Mound And Rocks

Train Services in the up country railway line have been distrupted
for hours this evening(16) due to a collapsing of a soil mound and rocks in to the railway line near the Thalawakale Train Station as a result of the heavy showers experiencing in central hill areas  it has been reported.

A Train that was running in the Upcountry railway line at that time had stopped for around one hour till the removing of the Soil mound and rocks fallen to the Railway line has finished.

Private Bus Unions Called Off The Scheduled Strike

Private Bus Unions have decided to
called off the scheduled Island Wide strike as  the talks held between Private Bus Union leaders and  Transport Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva and Deputy Tranport Minister Ashok Abeysinghe had ended successfully the Unions have stated.

During the talks the Transport  Minister has agreed to increase the Bus fares by 12.5 percent with the increasing  of minimum bus fare by Rs.2 from Rs.10 to Rs.12.A Cabinet Paper regarding this increase is due to be submitted to the Cabinet on next Tiesday it has been announced.

A Sri Lankan Was Arretsed With Two Gold Biscuits Hidden In His Shoes At The Airport

Image result for katunayake airportAirport Customs have arrested a 31 year Old Sri Lankan male arrived in from Mumbai,India who had attempted to smuggle two Gold Biscuits weighing 200 grammes illegally  to Sri Lanka by hiding them in his shoes at the Katunayake Airport this morning (16).

The suspect who is a resident of Colombo had arrived at Katunayake Airport in the wee hours of this morning via a flight of Jet Airways by hidden two Gold Biscuits weighing 100 grammes each in his shoes it has been revealed.

The estimated value of the Two Gold Biscuits is around Rs.1.3 million it has been revealed.

Government Has Cancelled Leave Of All The Private Bus Drivers/Conductors And Technicians With Immediatte Effect-Private Buses To Launch A Strike From Tonight

Image result for sri lanka private busesGovernment has decided to cancel  leave of the all Private Bus Drivers ,Conductors and Technicians with immediate effect until the Bus owners have called off the scheduled Private Bus strike due to launch from midnight tonight (16).

Three Private Bus Owners Associations including Lanka Private Bus Owners Association have decided to launch an Island Wide strike from midnight tonight demanding a sufficient increase of Bus fares.

The Bus fare increase announced by the Government is not sufficient when comparing with the fuel price increase the Unions have stated.

 

Airport Customs Have Arrested A Person With A Stock Of Foreign Made Cigarette Sticks

Airport Customs have arrested a 46 year old person while attempting to smuggle 80 Cigarette Cartons contains 16,000 foreign made Cigarette sticks illegally to Sri Lanka at the Katunayaka Airport this morning (16).

The suspect who had arrived at the Airport via  a flight from Dubai and a resident of Colombo was arrested while leaving the Airport through the Green Chanel it has been reported.

The cartons contains with illegal stock of Cigarette Sticks made in Dubai were concealed in his luggage and worth around Rs.600,000 according to Customs.

MP Dilum Amunugama Was Questioned Around 12 Hours Over The Recent Communal Violence In Kandy

MP Amunugama who had arrived at the TID around 11.30 a.m had left from there around 11.30 p.m after recording a statement it has been reported.

Fourty Including Twenty Nine Buddhist Monks Were Hospitalized Due To Food Poisioning

Fourty including 29 buddhist monks 
 and 11 persons in Sri Sadananda ,Vidyarathna Privena in Maradankadawala area(North Central Province) have been hospitalized due to food poisioning yesterday(15) it has been reported.

They were admitted to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital due to suckness occurred  afrer consuming food offered as dana(Alms giving)last noon(15).

Chairman who was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officials yesterday has been remanded until 18th of May by the Colombo Fort Magistrate this noon(16).

The suspect who avoid appearing before the court to face a case filed against him on Rs.8 million financial fraud was arreested by the CID as per a warrant issued by the Court.

Former State Timber Corporation Chairman For Few Days Anurudda Polgampola Wás Arrested By The CID

The former MP and former Chairman
of State Timber Corporation for a short period Anurudda Polgampola was arested by the Criminal Investigations Department(CID) officials yesterday(15)over avoiding appearing before the Court on a case filed against him on involved in Rs.8 million financial fraud.

The suspect was arrested as per an arrest warrant issued by the court.

President Maithripala Sirisena has appointed Anurudda Polgampola as the State Timber Corporation ,but removed him within days due to corruption charges.

A Mother And Daughter Were Critically Injured Due To A Car-Train Collision

A mother and daughter were critically
injured and hospitalized after the Motor Car they were travelling colliding with a train while crossing through an unprotected railway crossing at the  Meegoda-Palpolawatte in Kelany -wally rail line yesterday(15).

The injured were admitted to the Hongama Base Hospital for treatment.

The Motor Car was drifted away around 100 meters as a result of the collision it has been reported.
