Six Persons Including A School Boy Arrested Over Attacking A Police Constable
Police have arrested six persons who
Had attacked a Police Constable with a sharp
object and injured him during a concert held in
Bandaragama area
Last night (16).
The injured Police Constable attached to the Bandaragama Police Station has been admitted to the Horana Base Hospital for treatment.
A school boy sat for the G.C.E O/Level examination last December is among the suspects arrested over the attack according to the Police.

Wild Life Officers Rescued Four Elephants Fallen To A Cultivation Well
Wild Life Department officials have
today (17) rescued four wild elephants including a mother elephant .Two elephant calves and another elephant fallen to a cultivation well near the Vavuniya -Omanthe road(Northern Province).
After rescuing the Mother Elephant first the wild life officials had chased her to the Jungle.But when the officials rescuing the other three elephants from the well the Mother Elephant arrived in the scene and attempted to attack wild life officers and the residents according to reports .
As a result Wild Life Officers shot and killed the mother elephant .

Umder the rubble in the disaster site.Around 140 houses located in Nagahamulla-Daham Road and 23 watte near the Meethotamulle Garbage Dump have been destroyed due to the Garbage Dump collapse .
Meanwhile assessment of the damage occurred due to the Garbage Dump collapse had commenced today.

Thirty Persons Still Missing Due To The Garbage Dump Collapse -Government
While the number of dead persons due to the Meethotamulle Garbage Collapse remains as 27 around 30 persons reported as missing due to the incident according to the Government.
However people who lives near the Garbage Dump in Meethotamulle have stated that the number of missing persons who may have buried with their houses due to the collapse may be more than 100.
Three persons who got injured due to the incident is still receiving treatment in Colombo National Hospital and one person is in Intensive Care Unit according to the Hospital Director Dr.Anil Jasinghe.
Meanwhile the funerals of 14 who died due to the Garbage Dump collapse held this evening at Kolonnawa Cemetery with participation of large number of people.However the displaced Meethotamulle residents have not allowed any politician to take part in the funerals or to visit the Garbage Dump it has been reported.

Government To Compnasate The Familes Of Those Died Due To The Garbage Dump Collapse
Government has decided to compensate the families of those who died due to the collapsing of a section of the Meethotamulle Garbage Dump with Rs.100,000 each and up to Rs.2.5 million for property damages the Ministry Of Finance has announced this evening(17).
The Treassury has allocated necessary funds to provide cooked meals for those who are displaced due to the Garbage Dump collapse on last Friday(14)and steps will be taken either to build new houses for those who lives in risk area near the Meethotamulle Garbage Dump or to shifted them to new area the Ministry has stated.
For those whose houses have completely destroyed due to the incident will be provided with storied houses in a storied housing scheme as per the wishes of them Ministry has said.

Disposal Of Garbage To The Lands Belonging To Urban Development Auithority To Be Banned From 01st Of May
Disposal of Garbage to the Lands belonging to the Urban Development Authority (UDA) will be banned with effect from 01st of May according to the Minister of Megapolis and Western Development Patali Champika Ranawake.
If a Provincial Council or a state owned company would require an area to dispose their garbage the above mentioned Council or the Company would have to bear the necessary expenses by utilizing their allocated funds the UDA has announced.
