Joint Opposition MP Wimal Weerawansha Has Been Further Remanded Over Misusing Of State Vehicles

Imprisoned Joint Opposition MP and leader of National Freedom Front
 Wimal Weerawansha who was arrested and remanded over misusing of state owned vehicles has been further remanded until 06th  of March by the Colombo Fort Chief Magistrate today(20).

However the former deputy general manager of the state engineering corporation Samantha lokuhannadi arrested and remanded over the same charge leveled against MP Weerawansha has been released on RS.50,000 cash bail and two personal bails of RS.1 million each by the Magistrate.

Police Have Arrested Three Persons With Equipment Over Illegally Mining Gems


 

Police have arrested three persons over illegally mining gems in Bogawana ,Bagawanthalawa area yesterday (18).

Along with the suspects police have taken into custody an equipment used to mining gems it has been reported.

The suspects are residents of Bagawanthalawa area according to the Police 

Wild Life Department Arrested Ten Persons Over Hunting In Wilpattu Sanctuary

Wild Life Department officials had arrested ten persons including
eight civilians and two police officers over hunting in the Wilpattu Wild Sanctuary today .

The two police officers had been identified as attached to the Puttalam Divisional Police.

The suspects were later released on personal bail of RS.500,000 each after being produced before the Puttalam Magistrate Court.

CID Had Arrested Two More Army Officers Over Abduction And Assault Of Former Deputy Editor Keith Noyar

The Criminal Investigations Department
(CID) had today(19) arrested another two Army Officers regarding the abduction and asault of former deputy editor of the Nation Paper Keith Noyar.

After being produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate the suspects were remanded until 03rd of March .

Earlier three Army Officers including a Major had been arrested by the CID over the abduction and assault of former deputy editor of Nation Paper on 22 nd of May 2008 and later they were remanded until 23rd of February by acting Magistrate of Mount Lavinia .

Around 11 Persons Were Killed And 32 Injured Due To The Boat Accident In Katukurunda

According to the latest reports around
11 persons were killed and 32 were injured and hospitalized due to the accident a boat faced in the sea coast of Katukurinda in Kaluthara-Payagala sea area this morning(19).

The injured were admitted to the Beruwala and Kaluthara -Nagoda Hospitals for treatment .

The boat carrying around 40 persons was capcized when trying turn around after participating a boat parade held to mark the annual mass of a church in Beruwala.

A 12 year old boy was among the dead passengers  it has been reported.

The boat was capcized as a result of carrying persons more than the approved number according to officials of fisheries department.8 Navy rescue boats.11 divers ,4 Dora s and a bell-212 helicopter belonging to the Airforce involved in the rescue operation carried out to search the missing persons of the boat.

Around Ten Persons Were Killed And Several Persons Went Missing After A Boat Capcized In Katukurunda Coast

Around ten persons were killed and several others reported as went missing
 due to a passenger Boat capcized in a Katukurunda Coast of Kalutara -Payagala sea area today(19).

The Boat was capcized while transporting a group of persons to attend a church mass in Kalutara from Beruwala it has been revealed.

Sri Lanka Navy Officers along with officials of Fisheries Department had launched a rescue operation  in search of   the missing persons.Airforce too deployed a bell helicopter to search for the missing persons .
