More Than 100 Complaints Received To The Information Center Regarding Communal Violence In Kandy

An Information Center formed attached to the
Government Information Depart ment in Narahenpita  to receive complaints regarding  the communal violance in  Kandy District had received 126 complaints by today (09)it has been announced.

Out of these Complaints 103 were received through e mail and 23 were received through phone calls.These complaints had  sent to relevent authorities including Police to take an action the Information Department has stated.

Summons Issued To The Former Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake To Appear Before Colombo Magistrate Court

Colombo Additional Magistrate had today (09) issued


summons to former Finance Minister MP Ravi Karunanayake to appear before the Magistrate Court on 23rd of April this year to give evidence on a bribery case related to Co-operative Wholesale Establishment (CWE-SATHOSA).

Former Finance Minister was requested to appear before the court to give an evidence on a case filed against the former acting General Manager Of CWE over importing and selling of 1000 metric tonnes of rice by violating normal selling procedures and incur a loss of Rs.4 million to the government.

Former Minister was requested to appear before the court today ,However his Lawyers had informed
the court that their client was not able to come due to Parliament sessions.

Police Have Arrested Two Persons Over Selling "Mawa" And " Babul" Betel Leaves To School Children

Nelliadi Police have today (09 )arrested two persons over selling "flavoured betel leaves "Mawa" and "Babul" considered as narcotics ,to school children in NelliadI,Jaffna.

Police personal dressed in civilian cloths arrested the two suspects  while selling the betel leaves to school children .

A Motorcyclist Was Killed Due To Motorcycle -Private Bus Collision

A 24 year old Motorcyclist was killed

after the Motorcycle he was riding in colliding with a Private Bus at Ihalawela area on Galewela -Moragolla road yesterday (08).

The critically injured youth had succumbed to his injuries after admission to Gslewela Hospital.

Police have arrested the Private Bus Driver over the incident. 

A Former Active LTTE Member Was Arrested At Katunayake Airport

Immigration and Emigration
Department officials had arrested a former active member of LTHE while a tempting to flee to India at Katunayake,Bandaranayake International Airport today (09).

The suspect who had attempted to flee to India while citing to attend  a   pooja in an Indian kovil was later handed over to the Katunayake Police.

The suspect Murugayya Komalagan  was earlier arrested by security forces and remanded for six years where he was released on bail on 23rd of September 2016.

However the suspect was released on bail over the condition that he should appear before the police once a month and should not go abroad.

146 Persons Have Been Arrested During This Week Over Communal Violence In Kandy

Around 146 persons have been arrested in Kandy
regarding the communal violent activities in several areas of Kandy District during the raids carried out from last Sunday night (04) up to this morning (09) according to the Police Media Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekare.

Out of them 65 were arrested during last 24 hour period he has stated.

Colombo High Court Has Rejected To Grant Bail For Two Chief Suspects Of Central Bank Bond Scam Arjun Aloysius And Kasun Palisena

Colombo High Court has today
(09)dismissed the revised bail applications submitted by the lawyers of Imprisoned  chief suspects of the Central Bank Bond Scam Arjun Aloysius and Kasun Palisena seeking bail for their clients.

The Judge of the Colombo High Court has ordered to dismiss the revised bail applications filed by the lawyers of chief Bond Scam suspects and not to issue summons to main respondents named by the bail applications ,Attorney General and Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

Both Aloysius and Palisena were rejected to grant bail by the Colombo Fort Magistrate  Court on 16 the of February and they have been remanded until 15th of March .

Meanwhile one of the Chief Suspects of the Central Bank  Bond Scam the Former Central Bank Governor Arjun Mahendran has failed to appear before the CID yesterday (08 )which was the deadline given to him .

Two School Boys Who Were Posted Anti Racial Posts And Comments In Social Media Have Been Arrested- One Was Remanded

Criminal Investigations Department (CID)had arrested two  17 and 18 year
old school boys today (09) in Colpetty and Homagama arras over posting of anti Racist and hatred posts and comments in Social Media sites, that destroy communal harmony .

The  two students were produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate today  (09) and the Magistrate has remanded one of the students until 22nd of March and ordered to send other student to a child protection Center to rehabilitate.

According to the Police Media Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekare ,The raids will be carried out further to arrest those who are involved in posting and sharing anti Racist /Hatred   posts and comments through social media sites.

Under the State Of Emergency Regulations declared throughout the  island  ,Those who are arrested over current crisis will not be granted bail.

Shops In Few Areas Of Colombo District Have Been Closed In Protest Of Violence Activities In Kandy

Shops and Trade Stalls in few areas of Colombo including Pettah,Grandpass and Maligawatte have been closed today (09) in protest against communal violence erupted in some areaa in Kandy according to reports.

Army protection have been provided to several religious centers in Colombo and some areas out side of Colombo .Army personal were deployed in key institutes in Colombo .

Curfew In Kandy Administrative Area Was Lifted This Morning-It Will Be Re-Imposed At 8 P.M Today

The Curfew imposed in Kandy Administrative area
from 8 p.m last night (08) was  lifted at 6.a.m this morning (09)according to the Police.

However the Curfew will ge re-imposed in Kandy Administrative area except the Kandy Municipal Council area from 8.pm tonight (09)and lifted at 5 a.m tomorrow (10) it has been anounced.No violent activity has been reported after lifting the Curfew Police has stressed.

Although the curfew was lifted this morning ,life in the City is not active as in earlier days and People are moving to the city very slowly according to the reports.Due to this streets in Kandy looks like deserted and people are currently moving only for an essential work the reports revealed.

Less  traffic has been reported in  Colombo-Kandy due to this .

Meanwhile security Personal had recovered around 23 petrol bombs hidden in roadsides of  Kandy and Peradeniya areas during raids carried out on last night and this morning .Police are currently  investigating over the incider

The Schools in Kandy which were closed since last Tuesday (06) due to be opened in this Monday according to the Educational authorities.
