EpidemeologIsts Requested Public To Adapt Anti Corona Health Guidelines As Corona Risk Still There -However Higher Officers Moved Freely Without Adapting Them -International Book Fair Is Being Held With Restrictions Amidst Fear Of Creating Corona Cluster

Although spreading Corona virus is
well contained in Sri Lanka, people should follow Anti Corona health guidelines further to avoid spreading the  virus here as risk factors still there in the society according to the Director of Epidemeology Unit Dr.Sudath Samaraweera.

Some people in the society imcluding many school children are not adapting Anti Corona health guidelines issued by the Health Ministry including  wearing of Masks in public places and transport services and it will cause a huge problem he has stressed during a press briefing held at Health Promotions Bureau last Tuesday (15) evening  on the Corona epidemic threat .

Some drivers and conductors in private buses too avoid wearing masks during duty and as a result health officials are holding talks with private bus owners to make the Bus drivers and conductors  aware on the need to wear Masks during duty Dr.Samaraweera has said .

If people are continuously avoiding wearing of Masks in public ,laws will come in to effect regarding imposing fines on those not adapting Corona health guidelines he has revealed.

However according to Health Trade Unions although Health officials are giving advise to the common public to adapt corona health guidelines they along with higher officials in the country not wearing masks during public functions and press briefings openly and questioned how can people adapt those guidelines under these circumstances.

Higher officials should be examplery on  this issue and people will follow them trade unions had stressed.

Meanwhile Although other countries avoid large gatherings due to the spreading of Corona virus some officials had given permission to hold annual International Book fair at BMICH Colombo with restrictions it has been revealed. the Book Exhibition which had already started will be held with the participation of 300 people at once whilst adapting corona health guidelines including wearing masks,keeping social distancing and cleaning hands by soap / sanitizers Dr.Samaraweera has stated.

However the question is how they can hold this exhibition whilst adapting these rules strictly  for a week period as the fair is  known as a crowd puller and people from all parts of the  country usually visiting this exhibition annually .If a corona positive or a suspected cases visits the exhibition officials do not have details of other participants at the fair as they are not being registered trade unions said .

Society needs normalcy amidst Corona epidemic  but not like this one Health officials has stated .

Bloemendhal Police Had Taken In To Custody 33,000 KG Of Illegally Imported Turmeric At The Colombo Port -12 Persons Including 02 Customs Officers Arrested Over The Incident

Bloemenihal Police had  taken in to
custody 33,000 Kilo Grammes of TurmerIc illegally imported from Dubai and removed from the customs recently.

Police had arrested 12 persons including 02 Assistant Customs Supirintendents over the incident .

Police had taken in to. custody  07 lorries and 03 containers containing the illegally imported  33,000 Kilo grammea of Turmeric at the vehicle yard  of the Colombo port in Bloemendhal  area .The stock of Turmeric had been imported on the pretext of importing glass  it has been revealed .

At present there's a severe shortage of Turmeric in the country it has been repprted. Police and other forces have recently taken into custody stocks of illegally imported Turmetic at various places in the country and later destroyed them without releasing to the market .

Government To Import 100,000 Metric Tonnes Of Rice -However Politicians Criticized Previous Government When Doing The Same

Government will import 100,000 metric
tonnes of Rice with the Cabinet approval soon to avoid creating an artificial rice  shortage in the country and unnecessary price hike of rice according to Minister Of Trade Bandula Gunawardana .

Government will import this rice stock to keep a secure rice reserve under government control the Minister has Stresed during a meeting held with small and medium scale Rice mill owners regarding the rice supply to the local market at the Trade Ministry yesterday (18).

During the meeting Minister has stated that if the Rice mill owners are willing to release hidden paddy  in their Mills to the local market, there's no need to import rice from overseas.

However when in the  Opposotion Trade Minister along with several other  politicians in present government had severely criticized the previous good governance government whenever the Government  had attempted to import an essential food items to prevent a shortage in the local market .


Five Corona Positives Reported Yesterday (18)



Five Corona positives had been reported in Sri Lanka Yesterday  (18),increasing the total number of Corona positives reported from the country to 3281 according to Epidemeology Unit.

Accordingly five arrivals from Liberia, Hong Kong and Baharain  had tested positive for Corona virus yesterday.

At the moment 208 Corona positives are being treated at Government Hospitals. 

Police Arrested Three Persons Whilst Selling Ice And Heroin

Investigations unit of the Mount Lavinia Police had yesterday  (18)arrested three persons whilst distributing and seling Ice and Heroin  narcotics  at Mount Lavinia area .

Police have also taken in to custody 35 Grammes of Ice and 06 Grammes and 720 Mili grammes of Heroin as well as 06 Mobile phones,06 pounds and Rs.325,000  in possession of the suspects who are of the ages 21-34 years .

The suspects are residents of Rajagiriya, Dehiwala and Badowita areas and involved in distributing narcotics to Dehiwala, Moratuwa  and Mount Lavinia areas it had been revealed.  

Dengue Is On The Rise

Dengue fever is on the rise in several
areas in the island due to the prevailing occasional showers according to Epidemeology Unit.

Accordingly  506 Dengue cases had been reported in the country during first 17 days of this month the unit has stated .Out of this number majoroty of cases which is 145 had been reported from Kandy and 103 cases had been reported from Colombo District.

EpidemeologIsts are requesting the public to clean their premises and surrounding areas to avoid creating Dengue breading places.

Seventeen Corona Positives Had Been Discharged From Hospitals Today (18)

A total of 17 Corona positives had been
discharged from hospitals this morning (18) after full recovery according to Epidemeology Unit .

Accordingly The recovered Corona positives had been discharged from Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH) At Angoda ,Welikanda Base and Iranawila Hospitals, increasing the total number of Corona positives discharged so far to 3060.

Accordingly 02 arrivals from Oman and 01 arrival each from United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Madagascar had tested positive for Corona virus the unit has stated .

At the moment 203 Corona positives are being treated at Government Hospitals.
