Three Persons Injured ,Two Of Them Critically Due To A Road Accident

Three Persons of a same family have

been injured ,Two of them critically and hospitalized after the Cab they were travelling in colliding with a Tree at Netonpitiya area on Matara-Kataragama road last noon (15).

The injured were admitted to the Tangalle Base Hospital for treatment.

The accident occurred when the driver of the Cab travelling from Danketiya area to Hungama unable to control the speed of the vehicle amd as a result the Cab haf collided with a nearby tree according to Tangalle Police.

A Motorcyclist Was Killed Due To Run Over By A Army Truck

A  51 year old Motorcyclist was killed
after the Motorcycle he was riding in colliding with a Army Truck and run over by the truck at Kilinochchi -IranaMadu road last evening (15).

The critically injured Motorcyclists who had stuck under the Army Truck after the incident was removed and admitted to KilinochchI Hospital by the Police and residents of area ,However he had pronounced as dead on admission.

The deceased was a resident of Bharathipuram  village in KilinochchI. KilinochchI Police are conducting an investigations over the incident.

A 71 year old Motorcyclist was killed

after the Motorcycle he was riding in veering off the road and crashed in to a lamp post at Uhana area yesterday (15) it has been reported.

The critically injured Motorcyclist who had received serious injuries to his face as  a result of the blow had succumbed to his injuries after admitting to Ampara General Hospital .

The deceased was a resident of Uhana area and he had faced the incident while travelling from Ampara to Uhana.

Adverse Weather To Continue-Around 187 Houses In Kurunagala Partially Damaged Due To Strong Winds .

Around 187 houses at Kurunagala
District have been  partially damaged due to the strong winds blown away across the District within last two days according to the Disaster Management Center (DMC).

There will be an increase of the wind speed  in North ,Eastern,North Central and western slope areas of Central Hill within today  (16)according to reports.

Meanwhile the spill gates of six Reservoirs namely Laxapana,Norton Bridge,Canyon,Upper Kotmale,Maussakale and Kukule Gange reservoirs had been opened yesterday (15) as the water levels of these reservoirs had reached spill level.

 The low pressure area developing in northern part of Bay of Bangall set to be increased further he weather experts says.

Water Levels Of Six Reservoirs Reached Spill Level Due To Heavy Showers

Due to the heavy showers prevailing in the water levels of six Reservoirs have reached their spill level according to the Disaster Management Center.

Accordingly the Water levels of Canyon,Norton bridge, Upper Kotmale,Kotmale, Kukule Ganga and Maussakale reservoirs had reached spill level.

Meanwhile the Disaster Management Center has requested those living in low land areas around Kelaniya and MahawelI rivers to be vigilant over floods as the water levels of two rivers reaching spill level from few areas.

Colombo -Kochi Sri Lankan Airlines Flights To Be Cancelled Until.Saturday

Sri Lankan Airlines had suspended all Colombo-Kochi  flights until this Saturday (18)due to the closing down of Kochi  Airport in Southern India as a result of the floods drowned the  Airport .

Accordingly all Sri Lankan Flights flying from Colombo to Kochi  Airport in Southern India will be suspended until 2 p.m this Saturday it has been announced.Kochi Airport is due to be re-opened on Saturday according to reports.

As a result of the heavy showers the Kochi Airport is being flooded at the moment .

Meanwhile those who had purchased Air Tickets from Sri Lankan Airlines to  fly From Colombo to Kochi and Vice versa will get a chance to reach their destination through another South Indian city without paying a  additional fee the Airlines has announced. 

Former President Mahinda Rajapakshe Had Been Requested To Appear Before CID On 17 th

The Criminal Investigations
Department  (CID)had requested the former President Mahinda Rajapakshe to appear before the CID on 17 th of August  to record a statement over the abducting of the former Journalist attached to "The Nation"paper Keith Noyer.

The request was made through a letter signed by the Deputy Inspector General.Of Police (DIG) Ravi Seneviratne which was handed over to the official residence of former President Rajapakshe at Wijerama Road,Colombo -07 on laSt Sunday (12).

Six intelligence officials were arrested over the abduction and assault case of Keith Noyer on 22 nd of May 2008 and later they were released on bail.

The speaker Karu Jayasuriya and former Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapakshe had given statements already to the CID over the incident.

A House Owner Was Injured And Hospitalized Due To A Soil Mound Collapse

A house owner had been injured and
hospitalized after a soil mound collapsed in to the Kitchen area of  his house located at Kuda Maskeliya area in Maskeliya in the wee hours of this morning  (15).

The injured who had gone to the rare part of his house to inspect the collapsed Soil Mound got himself buried under the Soil. Later he was  rescued and admitted to the Dikoya Base Hospital for treatment.

The incident had occurred due to the heavy showers prevailing in Western slope area of Central Hills .

Six Private Bus Unions To Launch An Island Wide Strike From Midnight Tonight (15)

Six Private Bus unions including All

Ceylon Private Bus Employees Union and Government Progressive Drivers Union have decided to launch an Island Wide continuous Private Bus Strike from midnight tonight (15) against the newly introduced fine sheet.

However Main Private Bus Union ,The Ceylon Private Bus Owners Union has decided not to support the trade union action it has been revealed.

The All Ceylon Private Bus Employees Union which leads the strike has stated that the authorities should have implemented the old Fine sheet system till creating a Road system equipped with technical cameras and implementing the new Fine sheet system.

A Soil Mound Completely Blocked Transport Activities On Colombo -Hatton Road- Road Was Now Cleared For Traffic

main road had  completely blocked due to a Collapsing of a Soil mound to the road at Watawala area this evening (15).

The authorities had later removed the Soil Mound and cleared the road for traffic.

Soon after the Collapsing of a Soil mound to the road  Police have advised the Motorists to use an alternative roads when travelling until the removal of Soil Mound.

Accordingly Motorists were advised to use Ginigathhena-Diyagala -road to travel.

Soil Mound had collapsed as a result of the heavy showers prevailing in the Central Hills at present.
