Raja rata University Has Been Closed Due To A Water Shortage

Raja rata University has been closed today (28) until 03 Rd of September by the University Authorities due to the water shortage prevailing in as a result of the drought in Anuradhapura District.

Accordingly all the faculties of the University will be closed until 03 Rd of September it has been announced.

The University which was closed earlier on 10th of August due to the spreading of Chicken pox among students scheduled to be reopened for academic activities yesterday (27).


Two Persons Were Arrested With 22.5 Kilo Grammes Of Narcotics

Police officers attached to Anti
Corruption Unit of The Northern Colombo Police Division had arrested two persons whilest transporting 22.5 Kilo Grammes of Kerala Cannabis and Has his by a Three Wheeler at Armor Street today (28).

The  suspects were arrested Whilest transporting 13.5  Kilo Grammes of Kerala Cannabis and 9 Kilo Grammes of Hashish according to reports.

The estimated value of the stock of narcotics taken in to custody is  more than Rs.7 million it has been revealed.

They are due to be produced before the court .

A Person Was Arrested With A Stock Of "Ice" Narcotic

Police had arrested a 42 year old
person with more than 500 Grammes of "Ice"Narcotic in possession at Abdul Hamid ground in Keselwatte yesterday  (27).

The  estimated value of the stock of "Ice' Narcotic is around Rs.6 million .

The suspect who is  a resident of Keselwatte area is due to be produced  before the Maligakande Magistrate Court.

A Baby Elephant Was Rescued And Another Died Whilest Stuck In A Mud At Periyanaru Canal

A Baby Elephant has died and another Baby Elephant had been rescued Whilest stuck in a mud at Periyanaru Canal in Polonnaruwa today (28) it has been reported.

The two Baby Elephants were drowned in the mud of the canal last night (27)  Due to the fatigue suffered  after struggling whole night in the mud and as the rescued Baby Elephant coming out of the mud by trambling  him one Baby Elephant  has died before being rescued  it has been revealed.

A Foreman Has Died And Two Others Injured Due To A Road Accident

A 38 year old foreman attached to
Kandy Municipal Council has died and two others were injured after a Tipper Truck they were travelling in toppled over on the Ramanayake Road at mapanawatura,Kandy today (28).

The deceased who was a resident of Kandy had faced the incident
Whilest travelling from the Tipper Truck which was rented by the Kandy Municipal Council to   transport goods  for a development work in Mapanawatura area.

The driver and his assistant had received minor injuries and the Tipper had fallen down  a precipice after toppling over on the road.

Two Persons Arrested Over Harrasing The Tusker " Kalana" Were Released On Bail

Two persons who were arrested by the Police this morning (28)over harassing  the Tusker "Kalana" attached to Sri Wishnu Devalaya at DeviNuwara had been released on two surety bails worth Rs.200,000 each by the Matara Magistrate Court

The two suspects the Mahout and the Secratery of Basnayaka NIlame attached to Devalaya have been produced before the court this evening (28).

They were arrested by the Police as per a complaint made by Deputy Wild Life Minister Palitha Thewarapperuma yesterday (27) under the Animal Violance Act.

By granting  bail Magistrate had ordered the Mahout and Secretary of Basnayaka NIlame to maintain and clean the Tusker well in future .

Matara Magistrate Court had also ordered the National Zoological Park Department to submit a report on the Health status of "Kalana" Tusker  to the court before 11 th of September .

The case filed against the suspects is due to be taken up for hearing on 11 th of September .

Tear Gas Fired To Disperse A Protest Infront Of Galaha Hospital

Riot Police had fired tear gas and water
cannons this evening  to disperse a protest campaign launched by the residents of Delthotawatte in Galaha area in front of the Galaha Base Hospital since this morning (28).

The protesters had launched the protest opposing the two doctors attached to Galaha hospital who they believed as responsible for a death of one and half year old infant admitted to the Hospital this morning to treat phlegm .

The infant was later transferred to the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital for further treatment and died on the way to hospital.The protesters who are residents of the area where the deceased infant lived, charged that the two doctors at the Galaha  hospital were  responsible for the infant's death as they didn't checked him at all after admission.

However according to the Hospital authorities the parents of the deceased infant had attempted to take the child to Peradeniya Hospital by a Three Wheeler by charging that the doctors were not treated him well but authorities  refused to allow it.However later the condition of the infant turned worse and later authorities have pronounced him as dead .

The Special Police Task Force Personal along with Riot Police have called to calm down the  situation as the protesters had blocked the hospital without allowing the two doctors to leave the premises .

Although the Central Provincial Health Ministry has informed the protesters that the two doctors will be transferred to the Ministry the protesters have continuously protested and pelted stones and damaged doors and windows of the Hospital it has been revealed .

Special High Court Issued Summons To Seven Persons Including Former Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapakshe

Special Tribunal High Court setup by
the Government to speed up court cases related to large scale financial frauds had yesterday (27)issued summons to seven persons including former Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapakshe to be appeared before the court on 10 th of September over a  financial fraud.

The summons had been issued to the seven persons over misusing of Rs.49 million worth State Funds to built D.A Rajapakshe Memorial Museum at Weeraketiya during the previous regime .

The Simmons were issued as per the indictments filed at the court over the incident by Attorney General.

This case will be the second court case due to be heard by the Special High Court.

Two Were Arrested Over The Poor Health Of Tusker "Kalana"

The Secretary of the Basnayaka NIlame attached to the Sri Vishnu Devalaya (Religious place) at DeviNuwara and Mahout of the Devalaya had been arrested by the Gandara Police today (28)after being surrendered to Police Over neglect the rights of the "Kalana" Tusker of the Devalaya.

The two suspects were arrested after arriving at the Police to give a statement regarding a complaint made by the Deputy Minister Palitha Thewarapperuma over the poor health condition of the Tusker yesterday (27).

The suspects are due to be produced before the Matara Magistrate Court.

"Kalana" Tusker has a months long front foot injury caused due to tied down with a chain for longer period it has been revealed. Deputy Minister Thewarapperuma has visited the Devalaya to see the condition of the Tusker yesterday and made a complaint on the Tusker to the Police afterwards.

Thousands Of Waste Bags With Tonnes Of Clinical And Surgical Waste Piled At The Backyard Of The Colombo National Hospital - A Risk Of Spreading Infectious Diseases Due To Bad Smell

Patients ,their relatives and Hospital Staff attached to National Hospital ,Colombo are being faced with a serious
health problems due to the bad smell releasing from thousands of  Clinical and Surgical waste bags not being destroyed for a period of  one month and piled  at the backyard of the National Epilepsy Center attached to the  Hospital according to the All Ceylon Nurses Union.

Due to the Clinical and Surgical Waste bags contains tonnes of Clinical and surgical waste including Gauze and cotton with body fluids and used needles ,syringers and body fluids removed from wards and theaters there's a threat of  transporting the waste  by animals and  rain water to the drains and common water sources the Union has stressed.

Although there's a system of destroying  Clinical and Surgical waste removed from the hospital it was not implemented during a month period due to an external problem it has been learnt.

If the waste entered to common water sources serious infectious diseases can be spread in the city through that the acting President of the Union Nursing Officer H.S.M.B Madiwatte has stated.

Although the Hospital staff had informed on this situation to the Health Ministry so far no action has been taken in this regard.
