Supreme Court Affirms Appeals Court Decision On MP Geetha Kumarasinghe Cannot Hold MP Post Due To Her Dual Citizenship Status

The Five member Supreme Court Judge Panel has today(02) upholds the Court of Appeals decision on United Peoples Freedom Alliance  (UPFA)  MP Geetha Kumarasinghe cannot hold the MP Post due to her dual citizenship status by dismissing the MP' s appeal submitted against the  Appeals Court decision.

After taken up a petition  filed by two residents stating that the actress turned politician MP Kumarasinghe cannot hold the MP Post due to she holds a dual  citizenship in Switzerland ,Appeals court had previously given a verdict affirming the facts in the petition.

imported to Sri Lanka State owned Lanka SATHOSA outlets begun selling two varieties of Rice as well as Dhal for reduced prices since yesterday (01)according to the Minister of Industries and Commerce Rishad Baduideen.

Accordingly a Kilo of Samba Rice wil. Be sold for Rs.78 and a Kilo of Nadu Rice for Rs.73 .A Kilo of Dhal will be sold for Rs.148 Minister has stated.

Issuing of drugs to the patients of OPD (Out door

patients department) clinics and wards in government hospitals had been paralyzed yesterday (01)due to the island wide one day token strike launched by the Government Pharmacists.

The strike caused severe hardships to patients as patients of OPD Clinics in government hospitals not been able to get drugs from OPD Pharmacies it has been reported.

Meanwhile due to the strike,State Pharmaceuticals corporation had taken steps to issue drugs free of charge to government hospital OPD patients during yesterday through the all State Pharmacies(Osusal) island wide it has been reported.

The strike which launched to oppose the Health Ministry's decision to suspend the Clinical Pharmacology therapy course conducted at Post Graduate Institute Of Medicine in Colombo is due to be ended at 8 a.m today (02).

The Government Pharmacists Union has decided to launch a two day island wide strike on 15th and 16th of November with the participation of four other professions belonging to Professions Supplementary To Medicine if the authorities fails to restart the course suspended by them according to the president of the Union Ajith Thilakaratne.

A Pakistani Couple Arrested With 2.7 Kilo Grammes Of Heroin In Katunayake Airport

A Pakistani Couple was arrested by the Police

Narcotic Bureau officers while attempting to smuggle in 02 kilos and 766 grammes of Heroin concealed deep inside the luggage at Katunayake ,Bandaranaike International Airport this morning (01).

The Couple arrived in from Lahore,Pakistan had attempted to smuggle in the haul of Heroin in to the country worth more than  Rs.30 million it has been reported.

Later they were produced before the Minuwangoda Magistrate Court and the court granted permission to the Police Narcotic Bureau to question them while keep in  detention for seven day period.

A 17 Year Old Motorcyclist Was Killed Due To Motorcycle-Tractor Collision

A 17 year old Motorcycle rider  was killed and the female pillion rider had  injured and hospitalized after their Motorcycle colliding with a Tractor near the Malykili Amman School in Serunuwara .

The critically injured Motorcycle rider and the pillion rider were admitted to the Trincomalee Hospital for treatment and the Motorcycle rider had succumbed to his injuries on admission to the hospital.

The deceased was a resident of Mawadichena area .Serunuwara Police have arrested the Tractor driver regarding the accident.

Colombo High Court Had Sentenced A Former LTTE Member A Life Time Prisonment Over Killing Of A Intelligence Unit Chief Of Dehiwala Police

Colombo High Court has today(01) sentenced a LTTE Member who found guilty over  killing the former Intelligence Unit chief of the Dehiwala Police Sunil Thabrew on 23rd of July 2003 at his official residence ,a life time imprisonment .

Accordingly the Colombo High Court Judge Piyadasa Ranasinghe  had sentenced the resident of Mullivaikkal area Selvathurai Kirubakaran alias "Madan"  a life time imprisonment plus another five year jail term and imposed a Rs.25,000 fine.

A special police team had arrested the accused at the Kalubowil Teaching Hospital while receiving treatment.

Attorney General had later filed a court case against the accused under the Terrorism Prevention act over the killing of Sunil Thabrew inside his official residence,
