Import Tax On Wheat Flour Increased

 Government had increased the import tax imposed on Wheat flour from Rs.11 with effect from midnight of last Tuesday (29) according to the State Minister of Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya .


Accordingly the Import tax imposed on A kilo Gramme of Imported wheat flour had been increased to Rs.27 from Rs.16 th Minister had stated.

A Person Was Injured Due To A Gun Shooting In Ambalangoda

 A 36  year old person was injured and hospitlized due to a Gun shooting incident  occurred near the Dharmashoka Collage in Ambalangoda(Soutthern Province ) this evening(31).


The injured who is a resident of Walagedara in Balapitiya area had been  admitted to Balapitiya Hospital fot treatment.The incident occurred when two unidentified gunmen arrived in a Motorcycle had shot and injured  the person travelling in a Van according to the Ambalangoda Police.

Fuel Prices Increased Again

Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (Ceypetco)  had increased   the Prices of  Fuel with effect from  midnight tonight (31) it has been  announced.


Accordingly the Price of a Liter of  Octane -92 Petrol had been increased by Rs.13 A liter of Octane-95 Petrol had been increased by Rs.42 A liter of Auto diesel increased by Rs.35 and a Liter of Super Diesel by Rs.1 and a Liter of Kerosene oil by Rs.5 the CEYPETCO  has stated.

Lanka Indian Oil Company (LIOC ) too had increased the  fuel prices similarly with effect from midnight tonight it has been announced.

Power Plants Are Running Out Of Water To Generate Power

 Power plants in the Island have water sufficient to  generate electricity only for 35 days according to the Ceylon Electricity Board(CEB). 


A capacity of 284 Megawatt hours of Electricity  can be produced From the Water in hydrocatchment areas the Board had stated.At present the water level remains  in the hydrocatchment areas is 23.2 percent it has been revealed.

CEB is utiizing electricity generated  tbrough the  Heat ,windmill and Solar power plants to  meet the daily demand of Electricity the CEB had stated.

A Person Was Arrested With A Haul Of Ice

 The Special Police Task Force (STF) personal had arrested  a youth in possession of 3 Kilo Grammes and 396 Grammes  of Ice Nstcotic ( Methamphetamine ) at Uyilankulam in Mannar yesterday(29).


The arrest was made during a raid carriedout by the STF Personal .The suspect has identified as a 28 year old resident of Mannar.


One Killed -Nine Injured Due To An Accident In Kajugama

 A Person was killed and Nine others were injured and hospitalized due to a head to head collision between two buses at Kadjugama,area on Colombo -Kandy main road last night (29)  it has been reported.


Injured were admitted to the Wathupitiwala and Warakapola hospitals for treatment.The incident occurred when the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) Bus plying Kattankudy to Colombo collided with a private bus transporting employees whilst attempting to overtake another vehicle.

The deceased was identified as the 44 year old driver of the private bus .Nittambuwa Police had arrested the driver of the SLTB  Bus over the incident.



Cabinet Given Approval To Import 92.1 Million Eggs From India

 Cabinet has given an approval to import A stock of 92.1 million Eggs from india for the next three month period in aim of stabalising the Egg prices in the local market according to the Government.


The cabinet had approved a Cabinet Paper submitted by the President Ranil Wikramasinghe who is also the Minister of Finance and Economic stability in this regard.

Government had planned to import these Eggs from three Indian companies.

Met Department Issued Health Warnings On Temperatures

 The Department Of Meteorology had issued health  warnings to the Public in some places in the North Central and Eastern Provinces saying the heat index or the temperature felt on the human  body is expected to increase up to a "caution " level in those areas.


The Department requests the public in those areas to be stay hydrated and  take breaks in the shade as often as possible.Met department  also warned to check up on the elderly and the sick and never leave children in vehicles unattended .


 

Central Bank Ordered Commercial Banks To Reduce Interest Rates On Lending Products

 The Central Bank of Sri Lanka ordered the all licensed  Commercial Banks and all the licensed specialized banks to reduce the Interest rates on lending products with effect from 25 th of August.


Accordingly the interest rates on pawning facilities ,pre arranged temporary overdrafts ,Credit card advances an new and existing Lankan rupees denominated lending products are also reduced adequately .


Railway Electrical Technicians Called Off The Strike

 The Islandwide strike action launched by the Railway Electrical Technicians had been called off yesterday (25)  after the discussions  held between the Railway Electrical Technicians and the Railway authorities .


The strike of the Railway Electrical Technicians had  caused train delays  both last wednesday(23) and Thursday(24) and the passangers  had faced enormous difficulties as a result.The strike had been launched due to the arrest  and remand of a Railway Electrical Technician who was involved in a brawl with the deputy railways manager at Maligawatte railway yard.

A Sudden Power Failure Occurred In Southern Province

 Due to sudden power failure occurred in Matara,Hambanthota ,Embilipitiya and Beliatta areas in Southern Province since this evening (23)many houses in those areas are without power for hours according to the Ceylon Electricity Board.


This power failure had occurred as a resukt of the breaking down of one of the power grids of tbe Electricity  Board it has been revealed .Restoring power in those areas are currently underway the authorities had stated.

Two Policemen Arrested Whilst Accepting A Bribe

Bribery Commission Offcials had arrested a Police Sergeant and a Constable attached to the Theldeniya Police whilst accepting Rs.5000 as a Bribe from a person involved in illicit Liquor business last evening (22).


Thr Bribery Commission officials had handed over the two Policemen to the Theldeniya Police for further investigations .The  two suspects are due to be produced before the Theldeniya Magistrate Court today(23).

.A person Was Killed Due To A Gun Shooting Incident

 A person was killed and another were critically injured and hospitalized due to a Gun shooting incident occurred at a leading Tourist Hotel in Haputhale area (Hill country ) yesterday (22).


The injured who is the owner of the hotel was admitted to the Diyatalawa Base Hospital for treatment .The deceased was a resident of Matara area it has been revealed .The motive behind the shooting and the person or a group involved in the incident  have not yet been reveal.

President To Depart Singapore For An Official Visit

 President Ranil Wikramasinghe is due to depart to Singapore this morning (21)  for a two day official visit according to the government sources.


During his visit President is due to hold bi lateral talks with the Singaporean counterparts including  the President of Singapore Mrs.Halimaha Yacob ,Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen according to reports.


Prices Of Imported Big Anions Goes Up Due To The Increase Of Export Duty

 Due to the increased Export duty imposed on Big Anions by India ,The prices of the imported  Big Anions in the local market are being increased by Rs.50-70 per a Kilo Gramme it has been reported.

Around 60,900 Families In 15 Districts Are Being Faced Drinking Water Shortage

 Around  60,900 families in fifteen districts are being faced severe drinking water shortage due to the severe drought prevailing in those Districts according to the Disaster Management Center.


According to the Director General of the Center Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe families lives in 15 districts including Ratnaoura,Vavuniya,Kurunagala,Jaffna and Monaragala districts are being faced severe drinking water shortage.The majority of these families are in Jaffna District he had stated.

Chemical Storage Facility Where A Fire Erupted Not Obtained A Valid Licence -Environment Authority

 The Chemical storage facility at the Industrial zone in Katuwana,Homagama (Colombo District) which caught fire last Thursday (17) night had not obtained a valid Environmental Protection License(Epl) according to the Central Environmental Authority,The fire erupted in the factory had been doused by the fire brigade arrived in the scene.The smoke released to the environment had affected the Air quality in the area and the wastewater discharged from the factory had also polluted the surrounding area the Authority had stated.

The Central Environmental Authority is seeking is due to file a legal action against the Chemical storage facility.


facility which is being functioned since last December it has been reported.The authorities had advised the residents of the area to wear a face mask these days to avoid toxic gas inhalation.


Prices Of Chicken And Eggs To Be Slashed

 Due to the reduction of import tax imposed on Maize which uses to produce animal feed ,the prices of Chicken and Egg can be reduced soon according to the Association of Animal Production . Accordingly the Price of a Kilo Gramme of chicken can be sold at Rs.1200 and an Egg for RS.40 according to the Association.


The state Minister of Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya had announced yesterday(18) that the import tax imposed on Maize had been reduced by Rs.50 from Rs.75 to Rs.25 .


An Eighteen Hour Long Water Cut To Be Implemented In Colombo And Suburbs Today(20)

The National Water Supplies and Drainage Board had announced another 18 hour long unjustified water  cut scheduled to be implemented from 8 a.m today (19) until  2 a.m tomorrow(20)  in Colombo and the suburbs including in  four Municipal Council areas .


Accordingly this water cut will be implemented in Colombo,Dehiwala-Mount lavinia ,Kaduwela and Kotte Municipal Council areas and the Maharagama,Boralesgamuwa,Kolonnawa,Kotikawatte,Mulleriyawa pradesheeya sabha areas and Ratmalana and katubadda areas due to an essential maintainance work.

Chief Security Officer Of The Dehiwala Zoo Was Killed After An Electric Post Fallen Over Him

The Chief Security Officer attached to the Dehiwala Zoological Gardens was killed due to a collapsing of an  Electric post     on his head  as a result of colliding with a huge tree which fallen to the  grounds last evening (15).


The critically injured Chief Security Officer had succumbed to his injuries after admission to Kalubowila Teaching Hospital .The incident had occurred as a result of the huge tree at the Zoological Gardens fallen over the Electric post and the post had collapsed on the officer  it has been reported.

Three Persons Were Killed Due To Lorry-Van Collision

 Three persons were killed and five others had been injured and hospitalized  due to a Van-Lorry collision occurred at A-9 road in Jaffna-Kandy road of Mankulam area last morning (15).


The injured persons were admitted to the Mankulam and Kilinochchi hospitals for treatment .The deceased were identified as residents of Wellampitiya,Mulleriyawa and Jaffna areas of the ages 38,46 and 58 years it has been revealed.

Two Persons Were Shot Dead In Southern Province Today (15)

Two persons were shot dead by an unidentified gunmen in two areas at Southern province today (15) according to the Police.Accordingly a person whose identity is yet. To be uncovered was shot dead by an unidentified gunman at Bodarakande in Dikwella area and another person who was a 35 year old resident of South kudawella in Tangalle was gunned down by an unidentified gunman at his home few hours  ago it has been reported.

Four Persons Were Injured And Hospitalized Due To Jeep-Bowser Collision

 Four persons were critically injured and hospitalized after the Jeep they were travelling in colliding with a Fuel bowser at Hatton-Nuwaea-Eliya road last night(12) according to the Police.


The injured were admitted to the Dikoya Base  Hospital for treatment .The injured were residents of Norwood area and of the ages 20-30 years it has been revealed.The driver of the Jeep who was also injured and hospitalized was under the influence of liquor at the time of the incident the Police have stated.

Government To Relax The Ban Imposed On Importing Public Transport Vehicles

 Government is planning to relax the ban imposed over importing  vehicles use for public transport and to transport goods probably during this week according to the State Minister of Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya.






Government had banned the importing of all vehicles to the country last year due to the economic crisis .The Gazette notification regarding the lifting of the ban imposed on importing vehicles use for public transport and  transporting  goods including buses,lorries and trucks is likely to be  issued within next few days the Minister has stated.

However importing other vehicles will be further delayed due to the existing foreign reserve shortage.

Stocks Of Imported Wheet Flour Are Being Decreased -Local Importers

 As the importing of Wheet flour to Sri lanka had been  banned by the Import and Export Control Department with effect from 16th of July ,the stocks of Wheet flour remained with Flour importers in Colombo Pettah are being decreased according to the flour Importers .Now the Wheet flour importers in pettah have  stocks sufficient only for few days it has been reported.
