Plans Of Constructing The Proposed SAARC Medical Collage Due To Be Finalized In December-Health Minister

The plans of the construction work of  proposed
SAARC (South Asian Association For Regional corporation) Medical Collage due to be set up in Colombo ,Sri Lanka will be finalized by this December according to the Health Minister Dr.Rajitha Senaratne.

The director of the SAARC Secretariat had proposed the idea of setting up the SAARC Medical collage in the region during the SAARC Health Minister's summit held recently and Health Minister Dr.Senaratne had proposed to set up the Medical Collage in Sri Lanka which was approved by other member countries.

After setting up of the Medical Collage in Colombo, the medical students of the SAARC Region can commence tneir studies at the Collage under an  easy payment scheme Dr.Senaratne has stated.

A Train Running From Kurunagala To Colombo Derailed Near Polgahawela Railway Station

A train running from Kurunagala to Colombo Fort had
derailed near the Polgahawela Railway station this morning it has been announced.

Due to the derailment there's a delay of train services in Northern Rail track according to the Railways department.Steps have been taken to restore the train services of the rail track to normalcy.

A Person Was Killed Due To A Wild Elephant Attack

A 48 year old resident of Badanagala area of
Aralaganwila had been killed due to a wild elephant attack on  yesterday (21) it has been reported.

The body of the deceased is at mortury of the Dehiattakandiya Hospital.

Police Have Arrested Three Chinese Nationals With 14,800 Illegal Cigarettes

Colpetty police have arrested three Chinese Nationals
with around 14,800 illegal Cigarettes in their possession at a Restaurant in Colpetty area.

The suspects are of the ages 48,32 and 60 years it has been reported.

Airport Customs Arrested A Person Attempted To Smuggle A Stock Of Wallapatta To Dubai

Airport customs officers had arrested a person
attempted to smuggle 50 kilo grammes of expensive Wallapatta(Gyrinops Walla) which use to manufacture perfumes ,out of the country at Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport yesterday (22).

The  54 year old suspect who is a resident of Dematagoda area had been arrested while attempting to smuggle the stock of Wallapatta to Dubai tnrough a Sri Lankan Airlines Flight.

The value of the stock of Wallapatta arrested has been estimated as Rs.3 million and the stock had confiscated it has been reported.Customs Officers had imposed a Rs.300,000 fine on the suspect .

Acting Medical Officer In Charge Of Welikada Prison Hospital Dr.Nirmali Thenuwara Who Has Been Transferred ,Still In The Hospital-Doctors In The Hospital Continues Their Strike

The acting Medical Officer in Charge of the Welikada
Prison Hospital Dr.Nirmali Thenuwara who has been transferred to Colombo National Hospital over 26 indisciplinary charges by the Health Minister Dr.Rajitha Senaratne few days ago still remains  there in the Hospital it has been reported.

Health Minister had ordered Director General Of Health Services Dr.Jayasundara Bandara to  transfer the Dr.Thrnuwara after the majority of doctors in Prison Hospital complaint on her regarding helping political prisoners to enter the super ward of tne Welikada Prison Hospital under false pretexts.

Doctors attached to Welikada prison have been  on strike since early this week against Dr.Thenuwara's acts and due to this the patients of the Prison Hospital are not receiving any treatment according to sources,

Police Have Recovered Three Hand Grenades At A State Institution Vehicle Yard In Slave Island

Police have recovered three hand grenades at a entrance of a vehicle yard belonging to a State Institute in Union Place,Slave Island this morning(22).

The three grenades which found under a damaged vehicle had been defused by the Bomb Disposal  Squad .

Police protection had provided for the area and the officials of the Criminal Investigations Division(CID)  too arrived in the place for an investigations it has been reported. 

National Child Protection Authority Has Commenced An Investigation On Using 250 Small School Children To Hold The World's Longest Saree Fall

The National Child Protection Authority has launched an investigation on using of 250 under aged School Children attached to the Alawathugoda Primary School to hold a 3800 meter long fall of a traditional Kandyan Saree(Osariya) of a Bride who is a model from Gatambe Junction to Eriyagama Junction  for four hours while the Bride attempted to set a new guineas world record of wearing the longest fall of a saree  last morning(21) in Kandy.

 The teachers of the Alawathugoda School supervised the primary School Children when they hold the fall of the Saree of the Bride and the Chief Minister of Central Province Sarath Ekanayake had attended as the chief guest of the event organized by a Beautician in the area and attended by some Buddhist Monks and higher Police Officers as well.

The school Children used to hold the Bride's Saree fall are students of Garde 2,3 and 4 of Alawathugoda Primary School it has been revealed.

According to the organizers around Rs.2.7 million has spent to prepared the long Saree fall and around 100 of the school children attended the occasion were dressed as flower girls of the couple .

The Teachers trade unions have criticized heavily on the move of school authorities over participating the small school children to the event which was organized by closing down a lane of the road to allow the wedding procession and to break the previous world record of displaying the world's longest Saree fall in India which was 2800 meter long.

The Person Arrested Over Attempting To Enter Former President Rajapakshe's House Had Been Remanded

The person arrested with a sharp object over attempting to enter the official residence of former President Mahinda Rajapakshe at Wijerama Road in Colombo-07 had been remanded until 06th of October after being produced before the  Colombo Chief Magistrate today(22).

The suspect was arrested yesterday (21) after showing a knife  to the security officers  of  former President's official residence and threatened to kill himself  following the security officers  refusal to allow him to meet former president Rajapakshe.

The suspect has been identified as a 30 year former Buddhist Monk residing in Balangoda area.

The Colombo Chief Magistrate had questioned the suspect after being produced before the court on why he attempted to enter former President's house and he answered as it's a strictly confidential thing.

The Court has ordered the Police to get a medical report through a Psychiatrist on the suspect's mental health.
