Three Persons Were Arrested Over Attempting To Carry A Stock Of Foreign Cigarettes Stored Inside Of A Refrigirator

Airport customs have today (28) arrested a 33 year old
Sri Lankan worker arrived in from Qatar and two Sri Lankan Duty Free Shop workers over attempting to carry  15  foreign Cigarette Cartons contains cigarette sticks stored inside of a Refrigirator out of the Katunayake Airport today (28).

The two Duty free shop workers forced the Sri Lankan worker from Qatar to carry the Refrigirator outside the Airport by promising to pay  Rs.2500 for it,It has been revealed.

However the Customs officers had managed to recover the stock of Foreign Cigarette cartons hidden inside the Refrigirator during the checking.

A group of persons were present outside the Airport to collect the Refrigirtor it has been revealed.

During the raid carried out in a Duty Free shop after the arrests Customs have recovered another 48 Foreign Cigarette cartons  stored inside the shop.




Government Has Confirmed The Arrest Of Former Sri Lankan Ambassador To Russia Udayanga Weerathunge

Senaratne has today (28)confirmed that the Dubai Police have arrested the former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia Udayanga Weerathunge at Dubai Intetnational Airport.

Talks are currently underway to bring him back to Sri Lanka Dr.Senaratne has stated during the Cabinet briefing held in Information Department at Narahenpita today."The former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia Udayanga Weerathunge was arrested by Dubai Police during a raid as he was in hiding " he said.

Police Inspector Neomal Rangajeewa Was Arrested Over Murders Of Welikada Prisoners

Criminal Investigations Department (CID) had today
(28) arrested Police Inspector Neomal Rangajeeva attached to the Police Anti Narcotic Bureau over the murders of few prisoners in Welikada Prison during the riots occurred in 2012.

CID is currently investigating over the murders of Welikada prisonees.


President Has Removed Central Bank And Securities And Exchange Commission Under The Prime Minister 's Ministry

President Maithripala Sirisena has today (28)removed
the Central Bank and Securities And Exchange Commission attached to the Ministry Of National Policy and Economic Affairs under the Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinghe and vested with the Ministry Of Finance and Media under the Minister Mangala Samaraweera.

President has removed the Central Bank and Securities and Exchange Commission under the extra ordinary gazette notification No: 2064/26 issued on 28-03-2018 .These institutions attached to the Ministry of Finance earlier had removed from the Ministry and vested with Ministry of National Policy under the extra ordinary gazette notification no :1933/33  issued on 21st of September 2015.

A Person Was Arrested With Two Illegal Locally Made Firearms

Related imagePolice Officers attached to the Crimes Division of Tissamharamaya Police had arrested a 27 year old  person with two locally made firearms a "Galkatas" and another Bullet used Gun illegally hidden in a house at Beralihela in Tissamaharamaya yesterday(27).

During the investigations it has been revealed that the suspect had bought these fire arms three months ago according to the Police.

The tense situation occurred  when the supporters of UNP MP Palani Digambaram had accused that a female UNP Member elected to the Pradeshiya Sabha was not attended the voting today  as an  opposition group hiding her to prevent her from attending the event.

As a result of the accusation,a group had thrown stones to the Pradeshiya Sabha building and to the Police given protection to the place it has been reported.

The tense situation occurred when a female candidate representing Ceylon Workers Congress supporting Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna(SLPP) lead by former president Mahinda Rajapakshe ,has been elected without a constest  to the eight member Maskeliya Pradeshiya Sabha.

Riot Police arrived at the scene had control the tense situation.

Airport Customs officers have arrested two Sri Lankan males arrived in from Dubai with 249 illegal Cigarette Cartons with 49,800 Cigarette sticks and 07 Foreign Liquor Bottles in their possession at the Katunayake ,Bandaranaike International Airport this morning(28).


Related imageThe suspects are residents of Makola and Grandpass areas and of the ages 20 and 41 years old respectively.

The estimated value of the stock of Cigarette sticks and Liquor Bottles taken in to custody in possession of the suspects is around Rs.2.5 million it has been revealed.
