Sixteen Tamil Prisoners In Welikada And Anuradhapura Prisons Are In Hunger Strike

Around 16 Tamil Prisoners held in Welikada and Anuradhapura  Prisons for their suspicious links with LTTE Terrorists are being on Hunger Strike since Monday(22) by demanding their early release.

The detainees who are in Hunger Strike have alleged that the authorities have  held them in Prisons for longer period without any allegation .

Two Customs Officers Arrested In Connection With Rs.125 Million Bribery Case Were Remanded Until 10th Of March

The two Customs Officers who were arrested by Bribery Commission Officials on Wednesday(24) in connection with Sri Lanka's biggest ever Bribery Case worth Rs.125 Million have been remanded until 10th Of March by Colombo Magistrate .

The two suspects Upali Wikramasinghe and Wasantha Wimalaweera have been remanded after being produced before Colombo Magistrate Court yesterday(25).

Earlier Three Customs Officers  have been arrested  regarding the Rs.125 Million Bribery Case on 15th October 2015.

Accordingly Sri Lanka has signed several bi lateral agreements with German and Austrian Governments recently to bring knowledge on Higher Technology and to exchange Education  during his tours to  those countries President Sirisena has said.

Children should be equipped with knowledge on higher technology and Education in order to win today's world he has said.

President has revealed this while addressing the Annual Prize Giving of Sri Lanka Institute Of Information Technology in Malabe yesterday(25).

Iran Agreed To Supply Crude Oil To Sri Lanka For Lower Prices-Finance Minister

The Government of Iran has agreed to supply Crude Oil to Sri Lanka for lower prices according to the Minister Of Finance Ravi Karunanayake.

The Iranian Minister Of Power And Energy has met Sri Lankan Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake at the Ministry Of Finance yesterday (25) and discussed on supplying of Iranian Crude Oil to Sri Lanka for lower prices,

With this agreement Sri Lanka has able to initiate Trade Ties with Iran Minister Karunanayake has said.

Colombo Additional Magistrate Has Ordered The CID To Arrest Suspects Of The Death Of Former Rugby Player Wasim Thajudeen And Produce Them Before Court

The Colombo Additional Magistrate Court has today(25) ordered the Criminal Investigations Department(CID) to arrest those who are responsible for the death of former Sri Lankan National Rugby Player Wasim Thajudeen as it appeared to be a murder,

After considering the Post Mort um Examination result of Thajudeen,the Colombo Additional Magistrate Nishantha Peiris has ordered the CID to arrest the suspects of Thajudeen's Murder and produce them before the court.

Thajudeen's Death which occurred on 17th of May 2012 inside his car which then confirmed as crashed into a wall at Kirulapona(In Colombo) appears to be a murder according to the details uncovered so far the Colombo Additional Magistrate has said.Therefor he has instructed the CID to submit a report regarding this on 23rd of March.

The Colombo Additional Magistrate Nishantha Peiris has also stated that the injuries sustained in the Chest Area has been observed as the cause of the death of former Rugby Player Thajudeen.

Navy Have Arrested 12 Local Fishermen While Fishing In Sri Lankan Waters By Using Illegal Fishing Methods

The Navy have today(25) arrested 12 local fishermen who had engaged in fishing at local waters by using illegal fishing methods.

Out of these arrested local fishermen five were  arrested while engaged in illegal fishing by using a mono filament net between the seas off Muddal Ampiddi and Padaththuari Areas and seven fishermen were arrested while illegally fishing between the seas off Thirukovil and Gopalpuram.

The detained local fishermen have been handed over to the Assistant Director Of Fisheries in Mannar with the illegal fishing equipment for a future course of action.

South Indian Male Was Arrested At Katunayake International Airport With A Haul Of Heroin

Image result for katunayake airportA South Indian Male was arrested by Police Narcotic Bureau  at the Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport this morning with a haul of Heroin weighing 1 Kilo Gramme and 650 Grammes in his possession .

The suspect was arrested upon his arrival at the Airport from Chennai,India through a Sri Lankan Air Lines Flight.

Island Wide Power Failure Occurred Due To A Possible Lightning Strike On A Transmission Line-Ceylon Electricity Board

The Ceylon Electricity Board(CEB) has this evening announced the Island Wide Power Failure occurred for few hours was due to a possible lightning strike on a Transmission Line from Polpitiya(In Central Province) to Kolonnawa(In Colombo).

The Island Wide Power Failure which occurred at around 2.15 p.m this evening had effected the activities  of entire country and a severe traffic congestion has been reported from City Of Colombo due to the dis functioning of Signal Lights as a result of the Power Failure .

Ceylon Electricity Board has taken steps to restore the full  power supply by 6 p.m this evening.

Meanwhile the Minister Of Power Renewable Energy Ranjith Siyambalapitiya has ordered the relevant authorities to  conduct a special investigation on the sudden island wide power failure and submit a report to him at the  earliest.

Five Suspects Imprisoned Over Money Laundering Charge Have Been Further Remanded

Five Suspects who have been arrested and remanded on the charge of Money Laundering at Private T.V Channel Carlton Sports Network(CSN) including  Yoshitha Rajapakshe the son of former president Mahinda Rajapakshe have been further remanded until 10th of March by the Kaduwela Magistrate today(25) . 

The decision on  further remanding the  five suspects has been taken when the suspects were produced before Kaduwela Magistrate Court this morning.The bail application submitted by the Attorneys of five suspects behalf of their clients was rejected by the Magistrate when case was taken up for hearing today.

The five suspects including former President's Second Son Yoshitha,former president's Media Secreatary Rohan Weliwita and Nishantha Ranathunge who is the brother of Minister of Shipping Arjuna Ranathunge have been arrested on 30th of January over the Money Laundering charge.

Meanwhile the Colombo High Court is due to consider the bail application submitted by Attorneys of the five suspects on 29th of February.

Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka Has Took Oath As The Minister For Regional Development

Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka who is also a MP has took oath as  the Minister For Regional Development before President Maithripala Sirisena short while ago.

Field Marshal Fonseka has taken oath as a Minister at Presidents House In Colombo.The former Army Commander who had been appointed as a National List MP to the Parliament by governing United National Front (UNF) earlier this month has been sworn in as MP on 09th of February.

 

An Island Wide Power Failure Occurred And Restoration Of Power Has Commenced-Ceylon Electricity Board

An Islandwide  Power Failure has occurred around One  Hour ago and the Ceylon Electricity Board(CEB) has now commenced the restoration of Power according to the CEB.

The Ceylon Electricity Board believed the adverse weather condition prevails in the Country may have caused this power failure.However the CEB  not  yet identified the exact cause for  the island wide power failure and the Board is still looking in to it according to the CEB Chairman Anura Wijepala.
