A proposal has been submitted to change the name of
historical "Sripada"(Adam's Peak) to "Gauthama Sripadastanaya "according to the Ratnapura District Secretariat.

District Secretariat has planned to issue a Gazette notification regarding the changing the Name of "Sripada" according to reports.

Devotees belonging to every religion going to "Sripada"to worship.

Medical Faculty Students Action Committee Convener Ryan Jayathilake Has Been Further Remanded

Maligakande Additional Magistrate has yesterday
(04)further remanded the imprisoned convener of Medical faculty students action commiteee Ryan Jayathilake until 11th of October.

Ryan jayathilake has been remanded over forcibly entering the Health ministry premises  on 21st of June and damaging it's properties.

He has been further remanded after being produced before the Maligakande Additional Magistrate Manjula Ratnayake yesterday.

Cabinet Approved A Proposal To Purchase An Additional 100 Mega Watt Electricity To The National Power Grid

Cabinet has approved a proposal to purchase an
additional  100 mega watt electricity to the national grid in view of a continuous electricity supply in the country.

Government is due to acquire Power generators on rental basis to  generate the additional electricity to the power grid for next six months begining from this month according to the Minister of power Ranjith Siyambalapitiya. Government is due to call international bids to purchase the additional electricity on short term basis the Minister has stated.

Three State Bank Heads Revealed The Involvement Of Former Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake In The Central Bank Bond scam

The heads of three state banks who appeared before
the presidential commission on inquiry which  investigating on central bank bond scam issue today (04) have stated that former Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake has instructed them to bid at lower rates in the controversial issuance of Central bank bonds and state banks had experienced severe loss due to this.

The heads of three state banks including chairmen of peoples bank,Bank of ceylon and National savings bank had appeared before the commision today to give evidence on Central bank bond scam.

The three state bank heads have stated  that the former finance minister Ravi Karunanayake who resigned from his ministerial portfolio recently over his involvement with the main suspect of the Bond scam Arjun Aloysius had instructed each bank to submit bids with the value of Rs.7.5 billion.

A 63 Year Old Pedestrian Was Killed Due To A Road Accident

A 63 year old pedestrian was killed after colliding with
a motorcycle while crossing the road in pannipitiya area.

The critically injured pedestrian had been admitted to Homagama Base hospital for treatment and had succumbed to his injuries on admission to Colombo National Hospital.

The deceased had been identified as a resident of Arawwala,pannipitiya area.

Maharagama police have arrested the motorcyclist over the accident.

A Chinese Female Was Arrested With A Stock Of Cigarette Cartons And Liquor Bottles

Airport customs officers have arrested a chinese
female with 176 cigarette cartons and 04 bottles of foreign liquor illegally brought by her to the country at Katunayake Bandarana ike International Airport in wee hours today (04).

The estimated value of the cigarette cartons and liquor bottles is around Rs.17,64,000 according to customs officers.

The customs officers have confiscated the stock of cigarette cartons and liquor bottles and imposed a Rs.10,000 fine on her.

Around 200 Garment Workers Had Suddenly Fallen Sick In Norwood

Around 200 female garment workers attached to a
garment factory in newweligama area at Norwood have been admitted to the Dikoya Base Hospital this morning (04)after fainting suspected as due to the inhaling of a toxic gas.

The group of garment factory workers have suddenly fainted inside their workplace and earlier the authorities had suspected the incident occurred as a result of a food poisioning.The condition of the workers is not serious according to sources.

However later revealed that the incident occurred possibly  due to a inhaling of a toxic gas. 

A Broker And Another Person Arrested Over Accepting And Giving A Bribe

Bribery Commission officials have arrested a broker
who had taken Rs.2000 as a bribe from another person to get a copy of a Motorcycle registration certificatte through a motor traffic control officer and the person who had given the bribe at Motor traffic commissioner's office  in Narahenpita.

The suspects were arrested as per an information received by the Bribery commission and they are due to be produced before the Colombo chief magistrate court.

A Stock Of Foreign Liquor Bottles Taken Into Custody At A House In Rajagiriya

Police special task force personal have arrested a
house owner with around 7500 foreign liquor bottles (Whisky)in his possession at a house in Moragasmulle, Rajagiriya.

The estimated value of the stock of liquor bottles taken into police custody is around Rs.40 million  and the stock had been transported  to welikada police by a lorry  for further investigations according to the Police.
