Bribery Commission Officials Have Arrested A Provinical Officer In Nochchiyagama Area While Accepting A Bribe

The Bribery Commission Officials have yesterday(13) arrested a Provincial Officer representing Farmers Community in Nochchiyagama Area(In North Central Province) while accepting Rs.30,000 as a bribe.

The arrested officer attempted to take the bribe from a person to recommend a contractor to pay money regarding construction work of a reservoir in Nochchiyagama Area accirdng to the Bribery Commission.

The suspect is due to be produced before the Nochchiyagama Magistrate Court.

United Nations Food Programme To Grant US Dollars 20 Million For Sri Lanka

Image result for un food programmeThe United Nations Food Programme has decided to grant US Dollars 20 million to Sri Lanka for the period 2016-2017.

This grant will be given mainly to uplifting nutrition of Rural Population  and school children of Estate and Rural Sectors according to reports.

United Nations Food Programme has also decided to intervene into food safety issues in Sri Lanka during natural disasters.

Ministry Of Finance Has Uphold The Amendments Proposed To The Nation Building And Valued Added Taxes

Image result for value added tax and nation building taxThe Ministry Of Finance has today (13) decided to uphold the amendments proposed to Nation Building Tax(NBT) and Value Added Tax(VAT) through   2016 Annual Budget until the legislative enactments relevent to them are passed in Parliament.

The Value Added Tax on Retail and Wholesale Trade too has  been suspended according to the Ministry.

The amendments introduced to Value Added Tax and Nation Building Tax through the 2016-Annual Budget came into effect from 01st of January.

Due to the Tax increase the prices of some essential commodities like Sugar and Flour  have been increased by traders during last week.

Ministry Of Health To Open State Owned Pharmacies(Rajaye Osu Sala )24 Hours A Day

The Ministry Of Health ,Nutrition And Indigenous Medicine is considering a proposal to open State Owned Pharmacies(Rajaye Osu Sal) 24 hours a day according to the Ministry Sources.At the moment the Osu Sala's are only open daily  until 10 p.m.


The number of  State Owned Pharmacy Outlets situated throughout the country  is also due to be increased by this year from 31  to 50 outlets The Ministry has said.

There is a possibility of  achieving  these targets as the State Pharmaceutical Corporation which administrating State Owned Pharmacies has  earned a record able  revenue of  Rs.482 million during  last year the  Ministry has said.

Around 4064 Metric Tonnes Of Paddy Stored In Mattala Air Port To Be Removed By Tomorrow(14)

The Ministry Of Rural Economic Affairs has decided to remove 4064 Metric Tonnes of Paddy stored at a Store in Mattala(IIn Southern Province) International Air Port, tomorrow(14).

The Mattala International Air Port which is the second international air port in the country built at a cost of US Dollars 201 million granted by China during the previous regime had been used as a temporary paddy storage facility by paddy marketing board after paddy stores in Hambanthota(In Southern Province) have reached full capacity last year and due to non functioning  of the Air Port.

Around 500,000 Sri Lankans Had Undergone Blood Tests To Check HIV Status Last Year (2015)-Dr.Sisira Liyanage

Image result for hiv blood testsDuring Last Year (2015) around 500,000 Sri Lankans had  undergone Blood Tests to check their HIV/AIDS Status at Government and Private Hospitals according to the Director Of National STD/AIDS Control Programme Dr.Sisira Liayange.

Out of this number  300,000 had  undergone Blood Tests at National STD Clinics in Government Hospitals and the Clinic at National Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) /AIDS Programme in Colombo and 200,000 had undergone Blood Tests  at Private Hospitals Dr.Liyanage has said.

Addressing a Media Seminar On "HIV/AIDS And Migrant Workers" at Sri Lanka Press Institute in Narahenpita(In Colombo) this morning Dr.Liyanage has said more and more people are coming for Blood Tests now to check their HIV/AIDS Status at both Government and Private Hospitals after the National STD/AIDS Campaign has requested those who are having risky sexual behaviors to check their HIV Status.

This is a good sign and it helps to identify more and more HIV /AIDS Positives in early stages of the disease and referring them for treatment he has stressed.

A Group Of 80 Sri Lankan House Maids Have Returned To The Country From Kuwait

A group of around 80 Sri Lankan Females who had gone to Kuwait as House Maids have returned to the Country this morning according to Sri Lanka  Foreign Employment Bureau. 

The Group of  Sri Lankan Maids have arrived at the Katunayake Bandaranaike International Air Port this morning due to the reasons including expiration of their visas and Who got abused by their employers the Bureau has said.

According to the Foreign Employment Bureau another group of Sri Lankan House Maids are due to arrive Sri Lanka next week.
