The Police Officers attached to Crimes Division of  Western Province have yesterday(09)detained 17 businessmen including Jewlry Shop Owners who  had changed  foreign currencies without permission   in Negambo and Ja Ela areas. 

During the raid the Police have recovered Rs.500,000 worth foreign currency notes including US Dollars ,Malaysian Ringits and Indian Rupees.

The Central Bank has assisted  the raid it has been reported,

The Van Driver was transporting the School Children from Piliyandala to Palagama when the arrest was made.

Names Of Sixty Five Sri Lankans Included In Database Of Panama Investors Issued yesterday(09)

According to the database  of those who had invested money in controversial Panama based Law Firm "Mossack Fonseca" issued by The International Consortium Of Investigative Journalists few hours ago 65 Sri Lankans have invested their money in the firm it has been revealed.

Accordingly the details of  the names of three Sri Lankan Companies , seven intervene rs and 53 addresses are included in the database according to reports.

The database also displays an information about more than 100,000 additional offshore entities.

Asia Pacific Regional Prison Officers Summit To Be Held In Colombo Tomorrow (10)

The Asia Pacific Regional Prison Officers Summit is due to be held in Colombo tomorrow(10) with the participation of Prison Officers in 12 regional countries including Sri Lanka.

The "Open Prisons" concept is subject to be discuss during the summit it has been reported.

At the end of the summit the participants are due to make an observation tour to the Pallekele Open Prison Camp the Prison Department sources have stated.

Due to three reasons the price of Cement may have go up in near future according to Consumer Affairs Authority(CAA).

The rising value of the Dollar,Due to the increase of Board and Delivery Charge to  7.5% and the 4% increase of Value Added Tax(VAT) are the main reasons for this situation the  CAA has announced.

The Cement manufacturing  Companies have already requested the Authority to grant permission for increasing the Cement Prices it has been announced.

The Consumer Affairs Authority which declared Rs.870 as the  stranded price for Cement is now discussing with relevant authorities to  increase the  cement prices,

Court Of Appeal To Consider The Petition Against Former LTTE Head KP On 30th Of May

Image result for court of appeal sri lankaThe Court Of Appeal has today (09) ordered to recall the petition filed by requesting to arrest the former LTTE Head Kumaran Pathmanathan alias KP and produced him before court on 30th of May.

The JVP(Janatha Wimukthi Peramuna) MP Vijitha Herath has filed the petition against KP.When the petition was taken up for hearing today the Attorney General has stated that the Police are currently conducting an investigation on Kumaran Pathmanathan.



Navy Have Detained Six Local Fishermen Regarding Illegally Harvesting Sea Cucumbers From The Seas Of Eastern Chalai

Image result for arrestedThe Navy Officers have detained six local fishermen involved in harvesting sea cucumbers illegally from the seas of Eastern Chalai (North Eastern Province)according to reports.

During the raid the Navy Officers have taken into custody 150 Sea Cucumbers,Two Fiber Glass Dinghies,four pairs of diving fins, four diving masks and twenty oxygen cylinders .

The detained local fishermen along with equipment were handed over to the Mulathivu Police for further investigations.

Ilegal Unsafe Abortions Amongst Local Females Are On The Incraese -Health Surveys Revealed

Accordingly Majority of females who are seeking illegal unsafe abortions in Sri Lanka are married females over 35years of age according to Community Physician attached to Family Health Bureau Dr.Kapila Jayaratne.

As Abortions are not legalized in Sri Lanka those married females who have failed to adapt a family planning method are seeking abortions through an  illegal centers situated in the country he has stressed.

Most of these females who are going to Illegal Centers for abortions ended up with  admitting to government hospitals due to the complications they have experienced due to an unsafe abortions performs at those centers  Dr.Jayaratne has stated.

Dr.Jayaratne has revealed these facts at a Media Briefing held today(09) at Health Education Bureau in Colombo titled "Health and Social Effects of Abortions".

Out of around 112 maternal deaths reported from Sri Lanka annually 14 are caused due to abortions it has been revealed.

Speaking at the Briefing the Director of Child and Women's Bureau at Department Of Police E Jayasuriya have stated that  around 27 Illegal Abortion Centers have  raided during last year and legal actions were taken against the owners of these Centers.
