A Person Was Killed After Colliding With A Train

A person was killed after colliding with a train
travelling from Kandy to Colombo Fort near the Colombo Fort railway station today (18).

The deceased had been identified as a 48 year old resident of Kandy.

Colombo Fort police are conducting an investigation to clarify whether the death is a suicide or not.


A Pedestrian Was Killed Due To A Road Accident

A pedestrian was killed after colliding with a motor
car in Kadawatha-Kirillawela area on Colombo -Kandy main road today (18).

The 40 year old deceased who was a resident of Imbulgoda area  had faced this incident while crossing the road it has been recealed.


Kadawatha Police have arrested the driver of the motor car regarding the accident.

Singaporean Foreign Minister Arrived In Sri Lanka For An Official Visit

The foreign affairs minister of Singapore Dr.Vivian
Balakrishnan had arrived in Sri Lanka last night (17) with a seven member delegation for a four day official tour.

The Singaporean Foreign Minister is due to stay in Sri Lanka until 21st of July and during the period he and his delegation due to hold bi lateral talks with president Maithripala Sirisena,Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinghe ,Opposition Leader R.Sampanthan, foreign minister Ravi Karunanayake and several other ministers and government officials .

He is also due to visit Jaffna during his stay in Sri Lanka.

A Person Was Killed Due To A Wild Elephant Attack

A 56 year old person was killed this morning (18)due
to a wild elephant attack in pattimuruppu area at Wakarai.

The deceased who was a resident of Wakarai area had faced this incident when he went to his paddy field it has been revealed.

Gampaha High Court Has Sentenced 20 Year Imprisonment Each On Two Persons Over A Gang Raping A Female

Gampaha High Court has today (18)sentenced twenty
year rigorous imprisonment each on two persons who found guilty over gang raping a female attached to a Katunayake Free Trade Zone factory in September 2002.

Gampaha High Court Judge Priyantha Fernando who had imposed the prison sentence on two accused persons also ordered them to pay a compensation of Rs.500,000(Rs.250,000 each) for the victimized female.

The accused are residents of  paththalagedara, Veyangoda area and the rape was also occurred in the same area.



A Youth Who Had Sexually Molested A Girl ,Has Been Sentenced Seven Year Imprisonment

Hambanthota High Court has today (18)sentenced a
youth who found guilty over forcibly sexually molesting a girl  at Thissarsmaya ,a seven year rigorous imprisonment and ordered to pay Rs.100,000  compensation to the victimized girl.

Hambanthota High Court judge Ajith M.Masinghe has imposed another fine of Rs.2500 on the accused and if he failed to pay the fine another 08 month  imprisonment will be imposed on the accused and if he failed to pay the compensation to the victim  he will receive  another  one year simple  prison sentence.

The rape incident was occurred on 22nd of February in 2008.




Dhammika Ratnayake Has Been Appointed As The New Chairman Of BOI

Government has today (18) appointed former director
of the Board Of Investment (BOI) Dhammika Ratnayake as the new Chairman of BOI .

A new chairman has been appointed to the BOI due to the resignation of former BOI chairman Upul Jayasuriya.

Government has also appointed deputy chairman of John Keals Group Ajith Gunawardane and the Chief Officer of Sri Lanka Chamber Of Commerce Mangala G.Yapa as new directors of the BOI.

Around Eight School Children Have Been Hospitalized Due To A Shock As A Result Of An Explosion

Related imageAround Eight School Children have been admitted to the Mancholai Hospital in Mulathivu this morning (18)due to a shock as a result of a  sudden explosion occurred in a garbage mound during a Dengue Control Programme held in Kokilai Sinhala School in Mulathivu.

The explosion occurred after  a group of students of the school set fire to a collected garbage under the Dengue Control Programme .

All the Hospitalized students were admitted to the Hospital due to a shock and no one was injured due to the incident according to the Mulathivu Police.

A special Police Teams attached to the Mulathivu and Kokilai Police Stations had arrived in the scene and conducting an investigations on the explosion it has been reported.

A Heavy Traffic Reported In And Around Colombo Fort Due To A Anti SAITM Protest March

Image result for lotus road colomboA heavy traffic is being reported in and around  Colombo Fort and Maradana at present due to the closure of entry road to the Galle Face from Lotus Roundabout as a result of a protest march launched by Inter University Students Federation(IUSF).

Police have closed down the Lotus Roundabout short while ago as the protest march launched by IUSF by demanding to abolish the Malabe Private Medical Collage(SAITM) reached in front of the Colombo Fort Railway station.The protest march has begun at the University of Aesthetic Studies in Colombo this noon .

Police have taken a court order demanding that  the protest march should be conducted without causing any inconvenience to the  public and motorists.

A Newly Formed Doctors Union To Hold It's Second AGM Tomorrow(19)

The Newly formed Government Grade Medical Officers Union is due to hold it's second Annual General Meeting (AGM) tomorrow noon(19) at Sri  Lanka Foundation Institute in Colombo in view of getting solutions  to long standing unsolved demands  of  Government Doctors and to register new members of the Union.

According to the Union during the AGM scheduled to be held tomorrow under the patronage of Health Minister Dr.Rajitha Senaratne, issues including Salary and status of Government Doctors,Extra payment increase ,Duty free Car permit and Annual Transfers of Doctors will be discussed.

The Government Grade Medical Officers Union has already invited all Government Doctors to rally around the union to win the demands of Doctors according to a spokesman of the Union.

Around 31% Of The Sri Lankan Population Identified As Addicted To Cancer Agent Smokeless Tobacco Products

Around 31% of the Sri Lankan Population has been identified as addicted to cancer agent smokeless Tobacco products according to the National Authority on Tobacco And Alcohol .

Out of this percentage 26% are male and 5% are female the Authority has stated.

A large number of local youths are being addicted to smokeless Tobacco products like Betel Leaf ,Arecanuts ,Tobacco leaf and commercially based products such as Mava, Gutka, Pamparaag,Hanz,Babul and Beeda which are identified as cancer agents Oncologists have stated.

Due to the addiction of these products a large number of persons in the country are suffering from oral cancers,Cancers in pancreas and Oesophagus and diseases like Oral Fibrosis  they has stressed.

According to the oncologist Dr.Hemantha Amarasinghe around 200,000 Sri Lankans are suffering from Oral fibrosis at present which can developed in to a Cancer in near future.Difficulty of open  the mouth,pain when consuming food are main symptoms of this disease he has stressed.

A joint survey carried out  by the World Health Organization and National Authority on Tobacco And Alcohol had revealed that around Rs.5 billion need to spend annually to treat cancers caused due to smokeless tobacco products .

Distribution and sale of smokeless tobacco products in Sri Lanka are banned According to the law .
