Around 52 Passengers Have Been Injured And Hospitalized Due To A Bus Collision

Around 52 passenger have been injured 06 of them critically  and hospitalized due to a Private Bus -Sri Lanka Transport Board Bus collision occurred in kiyaduwa area,Akuressa(Southern Province) this morning(19).

The injured were admitted to the Akuressa Hospital and the 06 critically injured persons had transferred to the Matara General Hospital for further treatment. 

Around 31 females and drivers of the two buses are among the injured it has been revealed.

No Inquiry Regarding The Hand Bomb Throwing Incident In Sri Lanka Medical Council -A Medical Council Member

Addressing a press briefing held at the SLMC premises last noon (18) Dr.Gunasekera has stated that Police officers  who arrived in the scene last Saturday(13)  had gathered evidence regarding the hand bomb throwing incident and thereafter nothing has happened . Even the Police security has not been provided up to date  to the Medical Council premises which is a body responsible for  quality of the medical education in  Sri Lanka he has stressed.

"SLMC  has requested from the Inspector General Of Police to  provide police security for it's premises after the hand bomb throwing incident and still not received any positive response for that.This institution should be protected for the sake of implementing a quality medical service in the country " Dr.Gunasekera has said.

Addressing the briefing Professor Narada Wanasuriya who is also a SLMC Member has stressed that  the SLMC is not an instrument of the Government Medical Officers Association  at all and some politicians had misinterpreted the SLMC activities by considering it's stand on the SAITM Issue.

"What can someone gained by throwing a hand bomb at the Medical Council premises the president of the SLMC Professor Carlo Fonseka has questioned during his speech .

Airbus And Benz Companies In Germany To Provide Helicopters And Ambulances For Sri Lankan Health Service-Health Ministry

Related imageThe Airbus and Mercedes Benz car manufacturing  companies in Germany have agreed to provide 24 helicopters to airlift  patients in an emergency situations during natural disasters and to provide 1050 Ambulances and 240  emergency disaster trucks for an island wide Ambulance service to Sri Lanka during a meeting held between Sri Lankan Health Minister Dr.Rajitha Senaratne and representatives of German Banks providing financial support and government officials held in Germany on Wednesday (16).

Accordingly the Benz Company will provide 24 helicopters to Sri Lanka to utilize in airlifting patients and 1050 Ambulances and 240 emergency disaster trucks  will be provided by Airbus company the Ministry of Health has stated.

Sri Lankans will be recruited to the staff of Ambulances to be provided and they will receive the necessity training in Germany the Minister has further added.

Several Main And By Roads In Colombo Were Flooded Due To Heavy Showers

Several main and by roads in Colombo District were
flooded this evening due to the heavy showers fallen since this noon(18).

Around 88 mili meters of rain has been received by Colombo during today according to the Meteorology department.

According to the latest reports road near the Gangaramaya Temple was blocked this evening due to a fallling down of a tree to the road.

Several persons including media personal have been trapped inside the Sri Lanka Medical Council building in Noris Canal Road ,Colombo -10 for nearly two hours due to the water level in the garden of the council arisen to around three feets following the heavy showers.

Wallewatte Building Collapse: One Person Died-Building Was Reported As Not Met With The Required Standards

A person who got injured and hospitalized due to the
collapse of storied building "Excellancy"  in Wellawatte this morning (18)had succumbed to his injuries in the Colombo National Hospital.

Up to now twenty three persons have been admitted to the South Colombo Teaching Hospital in Colombo
and Colombo National Hospital for treatment.

Two vehicles parked near the collapsed building at the time were damaged and the Savoy Cinema Hall authorities had taken steps to remove the persons in the hall for safety concerns soon after the collapse.

According to the National Constructions Association the collapsed building situated near Savoy cinema hall has been reported as not upto the required standard.Due to this situation residents of the area  have protested against the construction work of the building many times sources said.

An Airline Worker Was Arrested With Rs.35 Million Worth Jewelry Illegally Smuggled To The Country

Sri Lanka Customs Officer have arrested a 27 year old Airline  Worker who illegally smuggled  six kilos and five hundred grammes of Jewelry to the country in Paliyagoda area this morning(18).

The suspect arrived in Katunyake ,Bandaranaike International Airport this morning through  a Sri Lankan Airlines Flight from Kulalampur,Malaysia .He was later arrested as per an information received on him.

The estimated value of the stock of Jewelry taken into custody in possession of the suspect is around Rs.35 million according to the Customs.

Customs Officers are currently questioning the suspect.

Wellawatte Building Collapse- Still Four Persons Missing And Twenty One Were Hospitalized

Due to the collapse of the five storied building under construction near the Savoy Cinema Hall in Wellawatte this morning (18) around Twenty One  persons have been injured and admitted to the South Colombo Teaching Hospital in Kalubowila and Colombo National Hospital up to now it has been reported.

One person trapped inside the collapsed building has been saved and hospitalized this evening and  four persons still reported as missing due to the incident Police have stated.

Rescue operations in search of the missing continues.

Sixteen Passangers Were Injured And Hospitalized After The Bus They Were In Fallen Down A Precipice

Sixteen passengers were injured and hospitalized as the the Private Bus they were travelling in fallen down a 35 feet deep precipice between Nuwara Eliya and Pattiapola areas this evening(18).

The injured were admitted to the Nuwara-Eliya Base Hospital for treatment.The condition  of the injured passengers is not serious it has been revealed.

The accident occurred when the Bus driver tried to close opened front door of the bus and as a result lost the control of the vehicle.

Roads In And Around Colombo Were Blocked Due To The Collapse Of Trees -Heavy Traffic Reported

Image result for colombo heavy trafficDue to the collapse of trees to the roads and railway tracks and flooded roads in and around Colombo as a result of heavy showers and strong winds  caused heavy traffic since this afternoon(18) in and around Colombo.

Several roads in and around Colombo including Lotus Road in Colombo Fort,Bullers Road near the BMICH,near the Fire Brigade Office in Maradana ,Tractor Corporation Junction in Fort were blocked due to the collapsed trees.

Police have advised the motorists to use an alternative routes due to this situation.

Meanwhile the train services in Kelanithissa Railway Track had suspended as a result of a tree collapsed between Nugegoda and Pangiriwatte areas.The removing of the tree collapsed on the rail track is currently underway it has been revealed.

Four Vehicles Damaged Due To The Collapse Of Vesak Pandal-Twenty Houses Have Been Damaged As A Result Of Heavy Showers And Winds

Around four vehicles have been damaged due to the collapse of Vesak Pandal built in Kiribathgoda City(Western Province)this evening(18) as a result of the heavy showers and strong winds prevailing in and around Colombo. 

No one was injured due to the incident it has been reported.

Meanwhile Due to the Heavy showers and strong winds prevailing in around 20 houses were damaged in Subuthipura,Battaramulle today(18).The roofs of some houses were severely damaged according to the reports.

In another instance Police have today removed Motor vehicles parked  near the Vesak Pandal built in Maharagama City as it has been revealed that there's a risk of collapsing the pandal.
