Police Arrested A Lodge Owner In Chilaw Over Helping Another Person To Rape A Girl
Chilaw police have arrested a lodge owner in
Chilaw,puttalam area who helped another person to rape a 14 year old girl at his lodge .
The girl who is a resident of south paliyalama in Anamaduwa was raped by a person who brought her to the lodge on 09th of March after met in a Bus .
The girl was on her way to her home from her adapted house when she met the rapist according to the police.
The suspect was fled away from the area and police are conducting a search operation to arrest him.The girl has sent to the Chilaw general Hospital for a medical examination.

Majestic Tusker "Eka Danthaya" Died
The majestic tusker "Eka Danthaya" who only had one
tusk and belonging to the temple of sacred tooth relic(Dalada Maligawa-Kandy)has died yesterday (12) at the age of 47.
The tusker had participated the historical Kandy Esala Perahara for 40 years.
The veterinary surgeons and wild life officers were conducted an autopsy of the tusker in Pallekale and revealed that the haemorrhage is the cause of the death.

Around 85% Of The Government Hospital Nurses Not Participated The Sick Note Campaign Announced By Public Services Nurses Union
Around 85% of the government hospital nurses have
reported to work today(13) despite the two day island wide sick note campaign announced by the Public Services Nurses Union lead by Venarable Muruththettuwe Ananda Thero according to the President of the Government Nursing Officers Union Saman Ratnapriya .
Addressing a press briefing held in Government Nursing Officers Union in Colombo today(13) saman ratnapriya says his union represents majority of government hospital nurses numbering 22,000 and the public services nurses union had only 8000 members.
Even half of the members of the striking union not participated the strike due to poor coordination he has stressed.

Ministry Of Industries And Commerce Issued A Gazette To Remove Control Prices Of White Sugar And Chicken
Ministry of Industries and Commerce has taken steps
to issue a gazette notification to remove control prices imposed on white sugar and broiler chicken according to Ministry.
According to the gazette the control price of Rs.93 imposed on white sugar and control prices of Rs.410 and Rs.490 imposed on broiler chicken with skin and broiler chicken without skin respectively will be removed.
The decision to remove the control prices of white sugar and broiler chicken taken at the meeting of cost of living based on the market prices ,imported prices and the consumer need of these items according to the Minister of Industries and commerce Rishad Baduideen.

A Person Was Arrested With 40 Kilo Grammes Of Kerala Cannabis
The Police had arrested a person with 40 kilo
grammes of Kerala Cannabis in his possession in Negambo area.
The suspect who is resident of Negambo area had been remanded until 16th of March after being produced before the Negambo Magistrate Court.
The value of the stock of Kerala Cannabis taken into custody along with the suspect estimated as Rs.6 million.

Former Health Minister Renuka Herath Passed Away
The former United National Party(UNP) Parliamentarian and Health Minister Renuka Herath has passed away at the age of 72.
Mrs.Herath who began her career as a teacher has entered the Parliament in 1977 by contesting from Walapane electorate in Nuwara Eliya .
She has served as a District Minister and Cabinet Minister under the previous UNP Governments and served as the opposition leader of Central Provincial Council at the time of her death.

Police Used Tear Gas And Water Cannons To Disperse The University Students Protsest March
Police have used tear gas and water cannon to disperse the Protest March organized by Inter University Students Federation(IUSF) against Malabe Private Medical Collage(SAITM) this evening(13) near the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo Fort.
The protest march commenced from the premises of University of Visual and Performance Art in Colombo this noon arrived at Lotus Road in Colombo Fort and when the protesting students attempted to remove the police barricades on the Road and march towards the Presidential Secretariat police have used the tear gas and water cannons to disperse the protestors it has been reported.
Police have now closed the entry road to Galle Face from the Lotus Roundabout due to the students protest .
Police have also arrested one university student who acted violently during the march.

Heavy Traffic Reported From Maradana Due To A Protest March
Heavy traffic has been reported in the roads around Technical Junction and Maradana (Colombo) this afternoon(13) due to a protest march organized by Inter University Students Federation(IUSF)against the Malabe Private Medical Collage(SAITM).
The protest march commenced from the premises of University Of Visual and Performance Arts in Colombo on the way to Colombo Fort it has been revealed.Police have advised the motorists to use an alternative routes due to the traffic.

Around 6% Of The Sri Lankan Population Suffering From Glaucoma
Around 6% of the Sri Lankan population numbering 250,000 are suffering from Glaucoma according to a latest island wide survey conducted by the Health Authorities.
Glaucoma disease which cause total blindness if not identifying earlier and receiving proper treatment ,should identify earlier and treated according to the Ophthalmologist attached to the Colombo Eye Hospital Dr.Muditha Kulathunge.
Addressing a Media Seminar held this morning(13) in Health Education Bureau,Colombo on "Glaucoma Disease ",Dr.Kulathunge has stressed that persons over 40 years should go for a eye checkup to find out whether they have Glaucoma 2-3 times per year to avoid unnecessary blindness.
People suffering from Diabetes and those who have a family member suffering from Glaucoma should go for a Glaucoma Test as they are at high risk of developing the disease she has stated.
