Veteran Popular Actor Roy De Silva Has Passed Away

Veteran Popular Sinhala Cinema Actor and Director Roy De Silva has passed away due to a heart attack last night(30)while being admitted to the Jayawardanapura Teaching Hospital in Kotte at the age of 80 years.

He began his career from Stage Dramas and entered the Cinema industry from the film "Sujage Rahasa"screened in 1964.Afterwards he had acted in around 65 films including popular hit films like "Sunethra","Sukiri Kella",Sujeewa","Sudu Nangi","Me Dasa Kumatada" and "Tom Pachaya".

He was married to a Popular Actress in his era Sumana Amarasinghe.There was a Roy-Sumana era in the Sinhala Cinema industry during 60"s and 70's.

Later he had taken the role of directing films and directed around 32 films like "Thanagiravi", "Tom Pachaya","Ra daniel Dawal migel" ,"It's a Matter Of Time"and "It's A Matter Of Love".He had also directed a comedy Tele Drams series "Hotel De Kalabala".

A Mother And Son Were Killed Due To A Motorcycle -Cab Collision

A 48 year old Mother and her 27 year
old son were killed after the Motorcycle they were riding colliding with a rear part of a Cab parked near roadside at A-9 Road near 123 rd Kilo Meter post in Galkulama Jumction last night(29).

The critically injured Mother and Son had succumbed to their injuries after admission to Mihintale Hospital.

Thirappane Police have arrested the driver of a drinking bottle transporting Cab regarding the accident.

Thirappane Police are conducting an investigatons over the incident.

A Person Was Arrested With Three Gold Biscuits In Possession

Airport Customs officers have arrested a 37 year old Sri Lankan National last night(29) while attempting to smuggle three Gold Biscuits weighing 100 Grammes each illegally to Sri Lanka at the Katunayake ,Bandaranaike International Airport .

The suspect who is a resident of Nittambuwa area had arrived in From Singapore it has been revealed.

The estimated value of the three Gold Biscuits the suspect had attempted to smuggle is more than Rs.2 million it has been revealed.The Customs are investigating over the incident.

President Has Instructed The Authorities To Build The Proposed Elephant Fence ASAP

President Maithripala Sirisena has yesterday (29) instructed the authorities to begin the work of building  the proposed 2500 Kilo Meter long Elephant Fence in view of Preventing Human-Elephant conflict  which currently previls in many areas.

President has urged the authorities during  a meeting held at the  President's Office yesterday regarding the construction work of the Elephant Fence ,to begin the construction work of the proposed Elephant fence as well as paying attention to the imporrance of maintaining the Elephant fence correctly  and to operate the Electric Fence which  currently not functioning.

At present Sri Lanka has around 4000 Kilo Meter long Elephant Fences and the number of Civil Defense Force Personal employed to protect  the fence numbering 1860 is not sufficent enough  to maintain it ,it has been revealed during the meeting.

President Sirisena has instructed the authorities to fill the shortage of Civil Defense Force Personal  experienced in area covering the Elephant fence.

Price Of A Tea Cup And Lunch Pack To Be Reduced Following The Price Reduction Of A Gas Cylinder

All Ceylon Eatery Owners Association has decided to reduce the prices of Plain Tea , Milk Tea and Rice Packettes with effect from Tomorrow(01) after considering the reduced price of a Domestic Gas Cylinder.


Accordingly price of  a Cup of Plain Tea and Milk Tea will be reduced by Rs.5 and the Price of a Lunch Packette to be reduced by Rs.10 according to the Association.

However prices of Bakery Products including a loaf of Bread will not be reduced due to the reduced Gas Price as prices of Bakery products not have been increased during the recent price hike of a Gas Cylinder the Bakery Owners Association has stated.

Consumer Affairs Authority has reduced the Price of a Domestic Gas Cylinder by Rs.138 with effect from midnight last night(29).

The male representation  of the Sri Lanka's male to female ratio of HIV/AIDS Positive has been increased to 4:1 from 2:1 according to the National STD/AIDS Control Programme.

The majority of HIV Positives reported from Sri Lanka are males and it's on the increase the Programme has stated.

Awareness Campaigns and Blood Tests on HIV/AIDS are being carried out targetting risk groups in Construction sites,Tourism Zones,Industrial Zones ,Brothal Houses," SPA" s etc to prevent the HIV/AIDS spreading further  in the country according to the National STD/AIDS Campaign.

Three Soldiers Were Arrested With Three Valuable Tusk Pearls

Two Army Soldiers and a Civil Defense Force Soldier were arrested by the Dankotuwa Police  while attempting to sell three valuable  Tusk Pearls illegally at Dankotuwa town yesterday(29).

The suspects are residents of Morawewa,Giriulla and Mahadiwulwewa areas.A court action due to be taken against them.

A Foreign National Was Arrested With A Stock Of Gem Stones At The Airport

Airport customs have arrested a 63 year old Ugandan National while attempting to smuggle around 858 Gem stones believed to be Blue Sapphire to the Country at Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport last night(29) it has been reported.


The estimated value of the Stock of Gemstones is around Rs.8 million.Customs Officials are currently questioning the suspect over the incident.

Colombo Fort Magistrate Ordered Authorities To Send Four Tapes Containing Mobile Conversations On Bond Scam To The Govt.Analyst

Jayaratne  has yesterday(29) ordered the authorities to send four tapes received from the Perpetual Treasuries Limited and Four tapes received from the Bonds Commission on the mobile convesations held regarding the Central Bank Bond Scam ,to the Government Analyst after the Senior Government Advocate Lakmini girihagama informing the Court that the mobile Conversation tapes received from Perpetual Treasuries have been changed and some conversations were deleted.

Government Advocate who had appeared behalf of the Attorney General had also informed the court yesterday that some oficials of the Perpetual Treasuries Limited have deleted and changed conversations of those tapes as per the instructions of the owner of Perpetual Treasuries imprisoned Arjun Aloysius.

conversations included in the  four tapes provided to the Central Bank Bond Commission  by the Perpetual Treasuries have been deleted and changed before handing over to the commission senior Advocate had informed during the hearing of the Bond Scam case.

The next hearing of the case is scheduled to be held on 20 th of July.

Deputy Minister Ranjan Ramanayake And Web Journalists Movement Have Complained To The FCID Over The New York Times News Item On Former President Rajapakshe

Deputy Minister Ranjan Ramanayake and Web Journalists National Movement had complained to the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Department (FCID)on  the news item appeared in "New York Times " news paper over the Utilizing of US Dollars 7.6 million provided by a bank account of China Harbor company to  the election campaign of former President Mahinda Rajapakshe in 2015.


Addressing a media briefing held yesterday (29) in Colombo Deputy Minister Ranjan Ramanayake had stated that the CID had provided the information regarding the money deal between Former President Rajapakshe and China Company  to the paper .

CID had provided a "B" Report to the paper on the incident he has stressed.

Meanwhile Chinese government has yesterday denied the New York Times report on the Deal.

Price Of A Domestic Gas Cylinder Decreased By Rs.138

The price of a Domestic Gas Cylinder has been reduced by Rs.138 with effect from midnight yesterday(29) as per a decision taken by the Cost of Living Committee according to the Consumer Affairs Authority.

Accordingly the new price of a 12.5 Kilo Gramme Domestic Gas Cylinder will be  Rs.1538.

Prices of 5 Kilo Gramme and 2.3  Kilo Gramme Gas Cylinder prices too were reduced by Rs.55 and Rs.25 Respectivly with effect from midnight yesterday.The new prices cof a 5 KG Gas Cylinder is Rs.616 and 2.3 KG Gas Cylider is Rs.283 the Consumer Affairs Authority has stated.

As per the new Fuel Price Mechanism introduced by the government the price of a Domestic Gas Cylinder had  increased by Rs.247 with effect from 27 th of April.

A Motorcyclist Was Killed Due To A Motorcycle-Tipper Collision

A Motorcyclist was killed after the Motorcycle he was riding colliding with a Tipper Truck arrived in front while attempting to overtake a Bus last evening (28) at Kaldiya in Puttalam -Kurunagala Road.

The deceased was a resident of Unaweliya area in Madurankuliya,

Puttalam Police have arrested the Tipper Truck Driver over the incident,while the Traffic Unit of the Police are investigating on the incident.

Former JVP Leader Rohana Wijeweera's Wife Had Filed A Petition Demanding To Produce His Missing Husband To The Court

Image result for rohana wijeweeraThe wife of the Founder of leftist Janatha Wimukthi Peramuna(JVP-Peoples Liberation Front ) Rohana Wijeweera , Srimathi Chitrangani Jayaweera has today(29) filed a Habaescorpus Petition at the Court Of Appeal demanding the producing of her missing Husband  who was arrested by the Security forces during the  1989 terror period  over the revolution he had launched to any formal court in the country.

The petitioner has named 11 persons including the Attorney General as respondents of the case.
According to the wife of Rohana Wijeweera the JVP Leader,her husband was arrested by the Government Security Forces on 12th of November in 1989 at Ulapane ,Matale and since then during last 29 years he was not produce before a Court and the Government still not inform her whether her husband is still live or not .

The petitioner has also requested the Court of Appeal to issue a Court order requesting an full inquiry over the whereabouts of her husband.

Ten suspects including a  three who have surrendered  to  the Kilinochchi Police today(29) regarding the brutal  killing of a rare species of  Leopard at Ambalulam  in Kilinochchi   have been remanded until 03rd of July by the Kilinochchi Magistrate Court today.

Seven Suspects have been arrested and surrendered to the Police earlier over the killing of a Leopard on 21st of June and Three suspects have been surrendered to the Police over the incident today.

All of them were remanded until 03rd of July by the Kilinochchi Magistrate Court after been produced before the Court.

An Army Soldier Had Committed Suicide At A Army Camp

A 22 year old Army Soldier had committed suicide by shot himself from his official firearm at the Arali Army base in Kayts (Northern Province)last night (28).

The reason behind the suicide has not yet been revealed.The deceased was a resident of Udakirilla in ,Ratnapura area.

A 38 Year old Three Wheeler Driver was killed and his wife and two children have been injured and hospitalized after the Three Wheeler they were traveling colliding with a Private Bus arrived in front at the 15th Post in Gokarella area today(29).

Police officers attached to the Law enforcement Unit of the Kurunagala Division have arrested seven persons with a large size " Conch" known as Valampuri worth millions of rupees  taken to sell to Businessmen at Malkaduwawa area in Kurunagala.


The Police officers had arrested the suspects by appeared before them as a group of Businessmen who want to buy the "Conch".

Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka Wants An Inquiry Reg.The Allegations Made Against The Former President By New York Times Paper

Minister of Wild Life Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka has today (28) stated that a formal inquiry should be conducted on the revelation made by New york Times paper that the former President Mahinda Rajapakshe had utilizes US Dollars 7.6 million provided by the China Harbor Company which was the main investor of the Hambanthota Port,to his presidential campaign in 2015.


New York Times paper had states that the former President has taken the money provided by the Chinese Comoany to use his election campaign.

Meanwhile The son of the Former President MP Namal Rajapakshe and former Central Bank Governor  Ajith Nivad Cabral have denied the allegations made by the US Based paper against former President.

Police have arrested a 31 year old Person who had cheated women by promising marrying them and cheated their money by behaving as a Doctor at a Lodge near the Pettah Bus Station yesterday (27).

The suspect who is a resident of Weliketiya in Pamunugama had cheated nearly Rs.5 million from residents of many areas including Pamunugama,Colombo,Kandana and Negambo areas according to the Police.The suspect had used the cheated money to play Casino it has been revealed.

He is due to be produced before the court.

A Van Driver Was Injured Due To A Road Accident

A Van Driver was injured and hospitalized after the VAN he was driving veering off the road at 19th Post in Siyambalanduwa road last evening (27).

The injured driver was admitted to the Siyambalanduwa Base Hospital for treatment and his condition is not critical according to the Police.
