Bus Fares Increased By 6.28% With Effect From Today

The price of Bus fares will be increased with effect
from today (01) by 6.28% according to the National Transport Commission.

Accordingly the minimum Bus fare will be increased by one rupee from Rs.9 to Rs.10 and Bus fares of  Rs.12 ,Rs,13,Rs.16,Rs.20 and Rs.24 also increased by one rupee each with effect from today.

Other Bus fares too increased by 6.28 % the Commission has stated.

Postal Services Back To Normalcy After The Strike Ended

Postal services which disrupted for three days due to
the island wide continuous strike launched by the Postal workers returned to normalcy yesterday (30)after the Postal Workers trade unions called off their strike last Thursday (29)night.

The strike had called off following the discussions held between the government and the representatives of Postal Trade Unions on Thursday.

Postal workers trade unions have launched the strike demanding the halting of the decesion to sell post offices for a tourist hotel project and solve long standing administrative problems of the Postal Department.

Former SLMC President Professor Carlo Signed The Report Of Inquiry Held Against Former Chief JMO Dr.Samarasekare Before Leaving Office

The outgoing president of the Sri Lanka Medical
Council (SLMC)Professor Carlo Fonseka has yesterday (30)placed  his signature on  the  report  of the inquiry held against the former Chief Judicial Medical Officer of Colombo Dr.Ananda Samarasekare regarding misplacing the bone parts of the body of former Sri Lankan rugby player Wasim Thajudeen ,before leaving the office.

Sri Lanka Medical Council held an inquiry against the former chief Judicial Medical Officer of Colombo Dr.Samarasekare who is also the former president of Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) and the former Vice Chancellor of the Malabe Private Medical Collage (SAITM)as per the order of Colombo Magistrate Court.

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID)had inspected the Malabe Private Medical Collage too regarding the misplaced bone items of Thajudeen. 

The report of the inquiry held on Dr.Samarasekare  is scheduled to be produced before the court in near future according to the SLMC.

The Term Of Sri Lanka Medical Council President Professor Carlo Fonseka Ended Yesterday (30)

The Five year term of the president of Sri Lanka
Medical Council (SLMC)Professor Carlo Fonseka has ended yesterday (30).

Professor Fonseka had been appointed as the President of SLMC by the Health Minister under the powers vested with him on 2012 and after his term  ended on last December , current Health Minister Dr.Rajitha Senaratne had extended his term for another six months.

However during last few months he was managed to gain the  confidence of the  Medical students and Doctors trade unions due to his opposition to the controversial Private Medical  Collage in Malabe (SAITM).

The 85 year old Professor has told  after his term in SLMC ended yesterday (30)that he had no hope of doing any job again at the moment.

Meanwhile the Medical Faculties Student Action Committee  had submitted a letter to the SLMC Yesterday (30)requesting a re appointment of  Professor Fonseka' as SLMC President.

The president of the SLMC which is a honorary post is appointed by the Health Minister under the powers vested with him.

Medical Students Parents Association Continues Their Satyagraha Campaign In Colombo Fort Railway Station Despite The Court Order

Although Colombo Fort Magistrate has ordered to
remove the hut on the pavement of Colombo Fort Railway station built by Medical students parents association for their continuous Satyagraha campaign,the parents are still reported as engaged in Satyagraha campaign despite the court order.

Due to this situation the Colombo Fort magistrate Lanka Jayaratne has today issued summons to  six parents of the Medical Students Parents Association to appear before the court on 14th of July regarding the continuing of Satyagraha campaign despite the  court order.

Meanwhile the Medical  Students parents association has submitted a motion through an Attorney to the High Court explaining the court order issued to remove their hut in Colombo Fort Railway station.

Due to the court order the Medical Students Parents Association members are holding their Satyagraha campaign in premises of the Railway station illegally according sources.

Panadura High Court Judge Sentenced Five Police Officers To Death Over A Murder Occurred In 27 Years Ago

Panadura High Court Judge Kusala Sarojini
 Weerawardane has today (30)sentenced five police officers attached to the Panadura Special Crimes Investigations Unit to death over a shooting and kiling of a suspect while in custody 27 years ago.

Accordingly the Judge has sentenced the five Police Officers including a Superintendant of police and four sargents over the killing which had taken place in June 1990.The suspect who was shot and killed while in police custody was arrested in Bandaragama over a robbery it has been revealed.

Although the murder occurred in 1990 the complaint was lodged against the Police officers by the relatives of the suspect in 2006 and the suspected Police officers were arrested over the incident and remanded on 22nd of June this year.

The Police officers in a death row are currently attached to the police stations in Nivithigala, Lunugala,Mirihana,and Dehiaththakandiya it has been revealed.

Around 19 Persons Injured Due To A Road Accident In Hali Ela

Two Persons Were Arrested Over Transporting Goats Illegally In Habarana

Habarana Police  have arrested two persons who have
illegally transported 37 goats in a van at Habarana area during a vehicle inspection carried out by the police.

The goats have been transported to Polonnaruwa to Katupotha area at the time of the incident it has been reported.The arrested suspects are residents of Narammala area according to the Police.


Due To The Public Protests Dumping Of Colombo Garbage To The Dumping Site In Ja Ela Suspended For Four Hours

The residents of Dalatura area have launched a
protest campaign for the second day today (29)against dumping of Colombo garbage by the Colombo Municipal Council to a private land in Muthurajawela in Ja -Ela area.

As the protestors have blocked the entry road to the Garbage Dumping site in Ja -Ela  to prevent dumping Colombo Garbage there,a heated words exchanged between the protestors and the Colombo Municiple Council Garbage Truck drivers and as a result Garbage dumping had been suspended around 4 hours it has been reported.

Later Police teams were called to control the tense situation in the area .

Afterwards Colombo Municipal Council Garbage trucks began dumping the Garbage again to the site this evening.

GMOA To Launch An Island Wide Strike Next Week Demanding To Nationalise The SAITM"

Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA)has
today (29)decided to launch an island wide continuous strike in next week demanding the nationalizing of SAITM.

The Central Committee of the GMOA has given powers to the Executive Committee of the union to decide the  dates of the strike.

GMOA will not agree any solution other than nationalizing the SAITM the union has stated.


Colombo Chief Magistrate has Ordered The Police To Remove The Hut Built In Colombo Fort Railway Station

Colombo  chief magistrate has today (29)ordered the
Police  to remove the hut built by the members of Medical Students Parents Association on the pavement in Colombo Fort  Railway station to conduct a satyagraha campaign.against the assaulting of students who invaded the Health Ministry and demanding nationalizing of the SAITM.

Chief magistrate Lanka Jayaratne has ordered the Police to remove the hut as it blocked the pavement of
road it has been reported.

Police have earlier requested from the Chief Magistrate to issue a court order to remove the hut as it might cause a problem to the pedestrians .

A 13 Year Old Buddhist Monk Committed Suicide By Hanging Himself

A 13 year old Buddhist monk in a temple at
Aththudawa,Matara had  committed suicide by hanging himself inside the temple it has been reported today (29).

While cleaning the temple ground in the morning he had hanged himself according to the Thihagoda Police.

Some youth have shown the deceased monk the pictures of the three children including a young Buddhist monk and their father who committed suicide by hanging themselves two days ago in Hungama area ,appeared in facebook through a mobile phone yesterday (28) Police have stated.

Airport Customs Have Arrested Two Chinese Females With A Stock Of Cigarettes,Gems And Jewelry

Five Persons Have Been Arrested In Mathugama With 139 Fake Rs.5000 Notes

Mathugama(Western Province) Police have arrested five persons with 139 fake Sri Lanka Rs.5000  Notes at a Restaurant in Mathugama town.

As per a tip off received by the Police, a person along with 12 fake Rs.5000 notes had been arrested while he was attempting to purchase liquor from a restaurant in Mathugama and as per the information received through him Police have arrested another four suspects with 127 fake Rs.5000 notes in their possession .

University Entrance Application Deadline Has Potponed Due To The Postal Strike

Earlier the deadline of receiving the applications for University Entrance scheduled for tomorrow(30).

Police Have Arrested A Motorist Rugger Adviser Over Run Over A Cyclist

Image result for accident graphicPolice have arrested a Rugger Adviser of a Government School and a player after the Motor Car he was driven  run over a 53 year old cyclist  and colliding with another vehicle on Ekala-Minuwangoda road yesterday(28).

The cyclist was killed on the spot and the suspected Rugger Adviser has not stopped his Motor Car even after the accident occurred it has been reported.

The Motorists who is a resident of Kapugoda-Ja Ela had been arrested by the Police while attempting to  move away   from the scene soon after the accident  .

The suspect was remanded until 05th of July after being produced before  the Negambo Magistrate Court.

In the court the Attorney of the suspect had requested the Magistrate to release   his client   without remand him ,However Magistrate has refused  the request and remanded him until 05th of July.

Epidemiology Unit To Introduce HPV Vaccine To School Girls Above 10 Years Old To Prevent Cervical Cancers

The Epidemiology Unit of Sri Lanka is due to introduce the " Human Papillomavirus" injection to  all the school girls of the ages 10-19 under the National Immunization Programme of the country free of charge  on 03rd of July, in view of preventing cervical cancers among Sri Lankan females in future.

This Injection will be introduced to the School Immunization programme according to the Epidemiology Unit.

Nearly 1000 female Cervical Cancer  patients are being reported annually in Sri Lanka according to the statistics.

 According to the World Health Organization(WHO) Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common viral infection of the reproductive tract. Most sexually active women and men will be infected at some point in their lives and some may be repeatedly infected.The peak time for acquiring infection for both women and men is shortly after becoming sexually active. HPV is sexually transmitted, but penetrative sex is not required for transmission. Skin-to-skin genital contact is a well-recognized mode of transmission.
  • There are more than 100 types of HPV, of which at least 13 are cancer-causing (also known as high risk type).
  • HPV is mainly transmitted through sexual contact and most people are infected with HPV shortly after the onset of sexual activity.
  • Cervical cancer is caused by sexually acquired infection with certain types of HPV.
  • Two HPV types (16 and 18) cause 70% of cervical cancers and precancerous cervical lesions.
  • There is also evidence linking HPV with cancers of the anus, vulva, vagina and penis.
  • Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer in women living in less developed regions with an estimated 445 000 new cases in 2012 (84% of the new cases worldwide).
  • In 2012, approximately 270 000 women died from cervical cancer; more than 85% of these deaths occurring in low- and middle-income countries.
  • Vaccines against HPV 16 and 18 have been approved for use in many countries.

Bodu Bala Sena Organization Requested The President To Take Over The Central Cultural Fund And Department Of Archeology

Bodu Bala Sena organization has today (28) requested
the President Maithripala Sirisena to take over the Department of Archeology and the Central Cultural Fund under him using executive powers of the Presidency .

The Organization has made this request due to a controversy arisen regarding the huge daily income of Rangiri Dambulu Temple which have stated as not received by the government over the last 21 years.

Around Rs.2.5 million daily income has been received by the Rangiri Dambulu Temple mainly through the tourist arrivals according to the sources.However the income has been  not received by the Central Cultural fund sources have added.

Protestors Against The Uma Oya Project Have Blocked The Bandarawela Railway Track

A group of protestors who have protested against the
Uma Oya project had been blocked  the Bandarawela Railway track this evening (28)causing disruption to transport  activities .

Due to the blocking ,trains of the upcountry railway track have been delayed according to the sources.

Thousands of residents of the area and civil organization members have protested against the uma oya project citing that the  cracks appeared in several houses of  the area and a risk of landslide threats and drying up of water resources appeared due to the project .


Neville Fernando Hospial To Be Fully Taken Over to The Government In Ten Years-Health Minister

Although the  Cabinet has given approval to take over
the Neville Fernando Teaching Hospital to the government ,The hospital will be fully taken over by the government in 10 years time after the hospital authorities have paid  the debt taken from a  bank of ceylon according to the Minister Of Health Dr.Rajitha Senaratne.

In future Neville Fernando Hospital will be governed by a governing body appointed by the Health Ministry same as the semi government hospital Kotte,Sri Jayawardenapura Teaching Hospital it has been revealed during the Cabinet briefing held at Government Information Department ,Narahenpita.


The estimated value of the Neville Fernando hospital which equipped with 600 beds  is around Rs.3.55 bilion the co-Cabinet spokesman Gayantha Karunathilake has stated.

A Passanger Was Killed And Another Injured Due To A Road Accident

A passanger was killed and a Three Wheeler driver
has been injured and hospitalized after the Three Wheeler they were in veering off the road and crashed into a lamp post at mevitiyagoda area on Colombo-Galle road according to the Police.

The injured driver had been admitted to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital for treatment.

The deceased who was in the back seat of the Three wheeler at the time of the accident has been identified as a 59 year old resident of Battaramulla area.

The accident was occurred due to the negligence of the driver Metiyagoda Police have stated.


Colombo High Court Has Sentenced An Intelligence Unit OIC A 28 Year Imprisonment

Colombo High court judge has today (28)imposed a 28
year rigorous  imprisonment on former OIC of Intellgence unit ,Sub Inspector H.M Udaya Kumara who was found guilty over taken Rs.350,000 from a relative of a missing person to find the missing person
.
Accordingly the accused OIC has been sentenced 07 yeaes per a charge regarding four charges proven as he was guilty and the High Court judge Piyadasa Ranasinghe has ordered the 28 year imprisonment should expire in 07 years.

As the Bribery Commission has proved four charges out of eight charges against the accused OIC ,the High Court judge  had also imposed a Rs.500,000 fine on him it has been reported.


Heavy Traffic Reported From Town Hall Due To A SAITM Protest March

Heavy Traffic has been reported in Town Hall this noon (28) due to a protest march organized by the Medical Students Parents Association and Medical Faculty Students Action Committee against the Private Medical Collage in Malabe.

The protest march was started from Town Hall and heading towards Colombo Fort ,where the protestors are due to hold a "Satyagraha" Campaign.

Meanwhile the Colombo Chief Magistrate has this morning refused to issue a court order against conducting the protest march requested by the Cinnamon Gardens Police.

Police have arrested a Nigerian National who
attempted to purchase a 71 acre land in Roomassala ,Galle for US Dollars 5 billion under   a 99 year lease period through providing fake dollar notes ,in Wellawatte area.

The suspect went to see the land owned by a businessman in Ahangama area after seen a paper advertisement published by the businessman regarding the selling of the land and attempted to purchase it through fake dollar notes police have stated.
