Four Persons Have Been Killed Due To A Motorcycle-Bus Collision

Four Persons Traveling in a Motorcycle have been killed after their Motorcycle colliding with a Private Bus in Bandiwewa area,Polonnaruwa(North Central Province) last night(11). 

The critically injured four Motorcyclists  of the ages 23-47  had succumbed to their injuries on admission to the Polonnaruwa  Hospital.The deceased had been identified as residents of Bandiwewa,Maoya area.

Police have arrested the Bus driver regarding the accident.

 

Supreme Court Has Suspended The Appeals Court Verdict To Annul The MP Post Of Geetha Kumarasinghe

Image result for supreme court sri lankaSupreme Court has today(12)  suspended  the Court of Appeal's verdict  to annul the MP Post of  United Peoples Freedom Alliance(UPFA) MP Geetha Kumarasinghe until 15 th of May  after considering an appeal filed by MP Kumarasinghe against the Appeals Court verdict. 

The three member judge panel comprising with Buwaneka Aluvihare,Anil Gunaratne and Priyantha Jayawardena met today at Supreme Court and  issued a staying order to suspend the Appeals Court verdict.The Judge Panel has also decided   to take up the appeal filed by MP Geetha Kumarasinghe on 15th of May.

Last week  the Parliamentary Secretary Dammike Dissanayake has informed the Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya that the MP Post of Geetha Kumarasinghe will be abolished after the Appeals Court verdict .

The Attorney General has informed the Appeals Court on 14th of March that the MP Kumarasinghe cannot hold the MP Post under the 19th Amendment of the Sri Lankan Constitution as she holds dual citizenship in Switzerland and she has failed to revoke her citizenship there.

Postal Department To Issue 20 New Stamps To Mark UN Vesak Festival

Image result for sri lanka postal departmentSri Lanka Postal Department is due to issue 20 new stamps tomorrow(12) to mark the United Nations Vesak Festival scheduled  to be  held in Colombo ,Sri Lanka.

The new stamps will be displayed 20 places of Buddhist worship   including of Lankathilake Temple in Kandy and Sanchi Temple In India it has been revealed.

Ministry Of Ports Denied The Reports On Falling Down Of The Vesak Pandal Operated Through Laser Technology In Galle Face

According to the Ministry the Pandal was unveiled by President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday (10) and it was again unveiled by Minister Of Ports and Shipping Arjuna Ranathunge today(11)..

The 60 feet tall and 40 feet width Pandal which will be exhibited to the public until 13th of May will be unveiled again tomorrow by the Prime Minister

Police Have Recovered 3.5 Kilo Grammes Of Heroin From A Garbage Dump

Image result for narcoticsMaradana Police have today(11) recovered 3.5 Kilo Grammes of Heroin from a Garbage Dump in D.R Wijewardena Road in Colombo Fort according to reports.

The Police have recovered the haul of Heroin as per an information received and the estimated value of it is around Rs.3.5 billion.

Maradana Police are conducting an investigation on the incident.

A Buddhist Monk And A Youth Had Been Assaulted At A Meditation Center

A Buddhist Monk and a youth  in a Meditation Center in Thalanagama Battaramaulle  
,Battaramulle (Colombo)  had been injured and admitted to the Colombo National Hospital after they were assaulted by a person who entered the Meditation Center this morning(11).

A Personal dispute was the cause behind this assault it has been revealed.Police have arrested the attacker and he was released on bail after being produced before the court .

Foreign And Trade Ministers Council Of European Union Approved Sri Lanka's Application To Receive GSP Plus

Image result for european unionThe Foreign and Trade Ministers Council  of the European Union who met in Belgian Capital Brussels today(11) had  approved the Sri Lanka's application to receive GSP (Generalized System of Preference) Plus concession according to Deputy Foreign Minister Dr.Harsha De Silva.

This is the last hurdle of the approving process of GSP Plus for Sri Lsnka it has been stated.Accordingly Sri Lankan export products including garments to the European Union countries will be received the GSP Plus tax concession within this month President Mithripala Sirisena has stated through the Twitter.

European Union has abolished the GSP Plus concession granted  for Sri Lankan export products during the previous regime due to several issues including human right issue.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Singh Modi Has Arrived In Sri Lanka


Indian Prime Minister Narendra Singh Modi has arrived in Sri Lanka this evening (11) from a special aircraft and he was welcomed  at the Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport by Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinghe.Several Cabinet Ministers too graced this occasion.


The Indian Premier who had accompanied by 65 member delegation is due to attend United Nations International  Vesak Day Festival scheduled to be held in Colombo tomorrow(12) and International Conference.

A special traffic plan has been  implemented in Colombo since this evening due to the Indian Prime Minister's visit and accordingly the lanes in the Katunayake Expressway to Colombo ,the stretch of  Baseline road from Paliyagoda to D.S Senanayake junction,the stretch of the road through Nelum Pokuna,,Library Junction,Piththala Junction and Gangaramaya -Seemamalakaya had closed from 6.15 p.m as the Indian Premier attended religious observances.

The Navam Mawatha to Galle Fave roundabout too closed from 7.15 p.m due to this.

Due to the discussions held at President's House between the visiting Indian Prime Minister Modi and Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena , Galle Face Road was closed from 8.20 p.m to 10.30p.m.
