A School Boy Was Critically Injured Due To A Road Accident
A School Boy was critically injured and hospitalized after colliding with a high speed Three Wheelerwhile attempting to cross the road at Bagawanthalawa area on Hatton-Balangoda main road last evening(05).
The injured who is a year 6 student of Campion Tamil School was admitted to the Bagawanthalawa Provincial Hospital for treatment.
Bagawanthalawa Police had arrested the Three Wheeler driver regarding the incident and he is due to be produced before the Hatton Magistrate Court.

A Female Motorcyclist Was Killed Due To A Road Accident
A 40 year old Female Motorcyclist was killed due to a Motorcycle-Lamp Post-Van collision at Gannoruwa-Peradeniya yesterday(05).
A high speed Van had collided with a lamp post at Gannoruwa and as a result the Lamp Post broken and hit on the Motorcycle arrived in back side of the Van and critically injured the Female Motorcyclist it has been revealed. The injured had succumbed to her injuries after admission to Peradeniya Teaching Hospital.
Police had arrested the Van driver regarding the incident and he was remanded until 09th of April by the Kandy Magistrate after producing before the Magistrate.

Retired Army General Kamal Karunasekare was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department. officials today(05)over envoraging and helping the abduction of former Journalist attached to the Nation paper ,Kieth Noyar.
Retired Army General was arrested while he is receiving treatment at the Army Hospital.
As he was arrested under the directive of Mount Lavinia Magistrate ,the Magistrate will be informed over the situation CID has stated.

Sri Lanka's Male Weightlifter Chaturanga Lakmal Jayasuriya and Female Weightlifter Dinusha Gomaz had won two bronze medals for the country in their events worked out at the 21st Commonwealth Games currently underway in Gold Coast ,Australia today(05).
Male Wightlifter Chaturanga had won the first medal for the country in the Commonwealth Games a Bronze Medal in 56 KG Category and later Female Weightlifter Dinusha Gomaz added another Bronze Medal to the Sri Lanka's Medal Tally in the first day of the games by wining the Bronze in Womens 48 KG Category .

Fourty Six Students Had Hospitalized Due To Food Poisioning
Forty Six Students attached to a school in Monaragala who are in Anuradhapura for an Educational Trip were admitted to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital this morning (05) due to a food poisoning.
The condition of the students is not critical according to reports.
The group of students had stayed in a Temple in Anuradhapura and fallen sick after consuming the food prepared by themselves it has been revealed.

Cabinet Papers Had Submitted To Ban The Selling Of A Single Cigarette And Keep 20 Percent Space In Cigarette Packs In White Color
Cabinet Papers had submitted to the Cabinet last Tuesday (03) regarding banning the selling of a single Cigarette to consumers and keeping the 20 percent of space in Cigarette Packs in white color (free) according to the Minister Of Health Dr.Rajitha Senaratne.
Ministry Of Finance had requested a one week period to examine these proposals Minister has stated.
At present 80 percent of the space in Cigarette packs manufactured here are filled with Health warnings related to smoking.

The Gazette Notification of banning the selling of Cigarettes within 100 meters distance from Schools due to be issued on this Saturday (07) during the seventieth World Health Day celebrations at Nelum Pokuna Rangahala ,Auditorium in Town Hall according to the Ministry Of Health.
Earlier Ministry Of Health has proposed a ban of selling Cigarettes within 500 meter distance from schools and later reduced it to 100 meter distance.Cabinet has approved the Cabinet Paper submitted by the Minister Dr.Rajitha Senaratne regarding the proposal.
The seventieth anniversary of the World Health Organization and the Seventieth World Health Day celebrations are due to be held at Nelum Pokuna Rangahala Auditorium on this Saturday under the patronage of Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinghe.
