Main Road In Front Of Colombo Fort Railway Station Which Closed Due To Protests Of Commuters Opened-Train Strike Continues

The main road in front of the Colombo Fort Railway station which closed last evening (08)due to the massive protest campaign launched by thousands of Commuters by blocking the two lines of the road against the Railway Strike, had been opened lAston night for transport activities.

Transport activities of the road had disrupted due to the protest campaign  of the commuters which lasted until last night.

Angry commuters had attacked the the main control room of the Colombo Fort Railway station opposing the strike which begun since 3  p..m last evening  (08) without a prior notice.

Riot Police and Special Task Force Personal are being deployed to provide security of the Railway stations it has been reported.

Meanwhile security forces managed to operate a Train to Mahawa area last night.

Train strike still continues  and the Minister of Finance and Media Mangala Samaraweera had requested  the strikers to come to negotiations over their demand.

A Huge Fire Erupted In Sapugoda Reserve Destroyed A Large Land Area

More than 100 acres of land belonging
to the Sapugoda Mountain Reserve at Anapallama area in Wellawaya Provincial Secretariet had been destroyed due to a huge fire erupted in the Reserve last noon (08)it has been reported.

Due to the dry weather condition prevailing in the area the fire spreads rapidly throughout the reserve and  it completely destroyed the grass field and old tree species in the Reserve .

A large species of endangered  and old Trees and Animals lives in the Reserve it has been revealed.

Galagodaatte Thero To Appeal Against The 19 Year Rigorous Imprisonment Sentenced Him

ala Sena Organization Venerable Galagodaatte Gnanasara Thero Who had been sentenced 19 year rigorous imprisonment by the Court of Appeal over the contempt of Court has decided to appeal against the sentence it has been revealed.

Accordingly the Court of Appeal had informed the Imprisoned thero who is now receiving treatment for a Kidney stone at Kotte Sri Jayawarda napura Teaching Hospital to produce verbal explanation regarding the Appeal on 29 th of August.

The Thero Had been admitted to the Jayawaradanapura Hospital over a Kidney stone on Monday and currently receiving treatment under the security of Prisons Department officials and Police.

The Attorney General had indicted the Galagodaatte Thero over four charges and he found guilty over the all charges the Court of Appeal Judges Preethi Surasena and Shiran Gunaratna had stated while delivering the verdict.

The debates of the Parliament due to be conducted from 2 p.m to 6.30 p.m ,However due to the lack of speakers available it caused the Parliament to end the debates by 3.10 p.m the reports have stated.

the price of a Locally made bottle of Liquor by Rs.40 with effect from midnight last night (07).

The price of Local liquor  had been increased due to the nation building tax imposed over the local liquor by the government .

Transport Ministry To Run Trains Paralyzed Due To The Strike Through Retired Drivers

Ministry Of Transport has requested
the retired Engine Drivers to report to work at the Sri Lanka Railways Department  by 6 a.m tomorrow (09)in view of running Trains halted due to the  ongoing strike of Several Railway Trade Unions.

The Ministry has decided to run the Passanger Trains  paralyzed due to the strike with the help of these Retired Engine Drivers.

Ministry has also cancelled all leave of Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) employees  until the strike of Railway Workers get resolved.

A Tense Situation Had Occurred Due To The Sudden Railway Strike

A tense situation had occurred at Colombo Fort and Maradana Railway

Stations since this evening (08)as the Office commuters had begun  a protest campaign blocking the roads and railway tracks   against the on going strike of several Railway trade unions.

Riot Police had been called to calm the situation and the main road in Colombo Fort had closed due to the protests.

Properties at Colombo Fort and Maradana Railway Stations had been damaged by the commuters during the protests it has been reported.

Several Railway Department Workers including Engine Drivers ,Station Masters and Guards had launched a sudden strike since 3 p.m this evening against the cancellation of the decision taken by the Cabinet earlier to.increase the salaries of Railway Workers.

Sri Lanka Transport Board had deployed several additional.Buses for the convenience of commuters due to the Train strike.

Galagodaatte Gnanasara Thero Had Been Sentenced To 19 Years Of Rigorous Imprisonment Over Contempt Of Court

The Court Of Appeal has today
(08)sentenced the General Secretary of Bodu Bala Sena Organization Venerable Galagodaatte Gnanasara Thero a Nineteen year rigorous Imprisonment to be spent in Six years over contempt of Court charges.

The Gnanasara Thero   was charged over showing rude behaviour at the Homagama Magistrate Premises after concluding a case filed against disappearance of Cartoonist Prageeth Eknaligoda.

The Thero Who is currently receiving treatment at Kotte,Sri Jayawarda napura  Teaching Hospital for a Kidney ailment has been ordered to arrest and remanded by the Appeals Court.

He was admitted to the Hospital on Monday (06)and due to undergo a Surgery on this Friday (10) according to sources.

Galagodaatte Thero was arrested and remanded recently over threatening the wife of Dissapeared Cartoonist Eknaligoda ,Sandya Eknaligoda  ,However later released on bail.
