Two Persons Were Arrested With A Stock Of White Sandlewood Parts

Two persons have been arrested along
with around 6700 Kilo Grammes of White sandlewood parts stored more than 170 fertilizer bags and  hidden in alabadagama ,Pannala area by the Pannala Police.

The stock of white sandlewood parts waa stored secretly to send abroad illegally it has been revealed.

The two suspects who are residents of Pannala are due to be produced before the Kuliyapitiya Magistrate Court.

Twenty Four Youth Injured And Hospitalized Due To A Brawl

Twenty four youths have been injured
and hospitalized due to a brawl incident occurred among two groups of youth at the Nediyakadu stadium in Valvitithurai,Jaffna last evening(10).

Out of the injured persons 21 were admitted to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital and 03 were admitted to the Point of Pedro hospital.

The incident occurred due to a heated argument erupted among two youth groups who were involved in sports activities in two stadium developed to a brawl it has been reported.

Police are currently investigating on to arrest those who are responsible for assaulting the injured.

Power Supply Cut Off In Eight Areas Since Last Night(10)

A major power failure has been experienced in eight areas in few districts since last night due to the breaking down of two 132 Kilo Watt power extension lines from Lakshapana power grid to Balangoda it has been reported.

Due to the power failure consumers in Galle,Hambanthota,Matara,Ratnapura,Balangoda,Deniyaya ,Embilipitiya and Ambalangoda comprising of one fourth of the total electricity consumers in Sri Lanka have been affected according to the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy.

Authorities are currently working on to restore the Power supply in these areas and it will take few hours to restore the normal power supply the Ministry has stated.

A Father And Daughter Have Been Arrested With A Haul Of Heroin In Possession

A father and daughter involved in
Heroin trade have been arrested by a special police team attached to the Police Anti Narcotic Bureau in Central province with a haul of Heroin in possession at Mahayyawa in Kandy .

Police team have taken in to custody 1.940 Grammes of Heroin in the possession of the suspects during the raid according to the reports.

A Large Number Of Acres And Wild Life At Icepeella Mount Reserve Have Been Destroyed Due To A Sudden Fire

More than 30 acres of land belongs to
the Icepeella Mount reserve in Wellawaya have been destroyed due to a sudden huge fire erupted in the reserve last evening(08) it has been revealed.

A large number of wild animals and trees have been destroyed due to the fire which is still spreading as a result of the strong winds prevailing in the area according to reports.

So far no authority has intervened to douse the fire which spreading further .

A Female Has Died After Falling A Branch Of A Coconut Tree On Her Head

A 45 year old female has died after a
branch of a coconut tree had fallen on her head last night(08) at Ilukwatta in Kadugannawa area it has been reported.

She had faced this incident while returning home after attending a church mass.

Former CEO Of SAITM Sameera Senaratne Has Been Arrested And Remanded

The former Chief Executive
Officer(CEO) of the SAITM(Malabe Private Medical Collage)Dr.Sameera Senaratne has been arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID)officers today(09)over an allegation levelled against him.

The suspect was later remanded until 14 th of this month by the Kaduwela Magistrate Court after being produced before the court.

Dr.Sameera senaratne is being charged that he had purposley planned the gun shooting incident occurred against him near the SAITM Institute in Malabe in February last year(2017).

A pillion Rider Was Killed Due To A Motorcycle-Van Collision

A 25 year old pillion rider was killed
and a Motorcyclist was critically injured and hospitalized after the Motorcycle they were riding colliding with a Van at Kudagoda area in Midddniya-Hungama main road last night(08).

The critically injured were admitted to the Salawa Hospital where the Pilion rider had succumbed to his injuries.The injured  Motorcyclist had been transferred to the Embiipitiya Hospital for further treatment.

The van driver had fled away from the scene by leaving the Van  and Police have launched a search operation to arrest him .

Around 60 Houses Were Damaged Due To Strong Winds In Kurunagala

Around 60 houses at Maspotha
Provincial Secretariat in Kurunagala have been damaged due to the strong winds blown away in the area this morning(09) according to sources.

Electricity supply to the houses in the area too cut off due to the winds.

Due to the winds trees had fallen in to the roads and authorities have taken steps to remove the fallen trees from the roads.

Veteran Popular Novelist Somaweera Senanayake Has Passed Away

The veteran Popular novelist ,Journalist and a Script writer Somaweera Senanayake has passed away this morning(09)while receiving treatment at a Private Hospital in Colombo at the age of 74.

The late Somaweera Senanayake  began his career as  a novelist in 1969 and written many famous novels including "Yashorawaya" which was later dubbed in to a tele drama very popular here.

Few of his famous tele drama scripts were "Yashorawaya","Kande Gedare",Du Daruwo" and "Manik Nadiya Gala Basee",.He also wrote scrpits of the films including "Aradana" and "Mihidum Sihina".

His funeral to be announced later."May he attain supreme bliss of Nibbana"
