Minister Of Finance ,Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapskshe Presented The Annual Budget To The Parliament Yesterday (17)

 Daily wage of the Estate workers proposed to be increased from 01st of  January 2021,interest rate of Housing loans issued to public servems through banks under housing loan scheme  to be reduced  to 7 percent ,Retirement age of state and private sector employees extended to 60 years  ,Minister of finance And Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapskshe has stated yesterday (17)at parliament during his Budget speech

Among the Budget proposals presented by the finance Minister were Granting permission to non executive grade employees of the public sector to engage in employment or private practice after office hours ,banning the single use of polythene and plastics from 01st of January 2021 and Granting tax concessions for imported motor spare parts .

Cabinet Has Approved A Volunteer Pension Scheme For Sri Lankan Employees

 Cabinet has approved a volunteer pension scheme proposed for Sri Lankan Airlines to allow it"s employees to retire from service voluntarily due to the financial crisis faced by the Sri Lanka"s national carrier according to the government .


Cabinet has approved the Cabinet paper submitted to the Cabinet by Minister of Tourism Prasanna Ranathunge regarding the proposed pension scheme for Sri Lankan Airlines .

Government is expecting around 560  Sri Lankan Airlines  to be  retired  under this pensions scheme .

Government has been allocated RS.146 billion to pay compensation to the Sri Lankan Airlines employees who are wiling to retire voluntarily 

404 Corona Positives Were Discharged From Hospitals Today (17)After Full Recovery

 Another 404 Corona positives had been discharged from Hospitals today (17)after full recovery increasing the total number of Corona positives discharged from Hospitals so far to 12,210 according to the Epidemeology Unit .


The majority of them  which is 76 were discharged from Kamburugamuwa Hospital, .

Five More Corona Deaths Had been Reported Today (17)

 Five more Corona deaths had been reported in the country this evening (17) increasing the total number of Corona deaths reported so far to 66 the Government information. department has stated .


Accordingly three females and two males had been died due to the complications of Corona virus today and they were residents of Colombo -10,Ratmalana ,Kirulapona ,Colombo -02 and Dematagoda areas it had been revealed. 

The deceased were of the ages 65,69,71,81, and 82 according to authorities .




398 Corona Positives Reported Today (17)

 A total of 398 Corona positives had been reported today (17)in the country increasing the total number of Corona positives reported so far to 18,075 according to Epidemeology Unit .


All the positives that had been  reported today were close contacts of previous Corona positives of Minuwangoda Brandix and paliyagoda fish market clusters according to the health authorities .

At the moment 5799 Corona positives are being treated at government hospitals and treatment centers .
