Local Government Elections-Only Two Election Results Have Announced Officially

Although the Chairman of Elections Commission
Mahinda Deshapriya has announced that the 75% of divisional Local government election results  will be released by 9 p.m the Elections Commission still managed to release only two elections results including Manthei east Pradeshiya Saba (council )in Mulathivu District and Ambalangoda Urban council in Galle District.

The Manthei council was won by Tamil National Alliance and Ambalangoda Urban Council was won by Sri Lanka Peoples Front led by former president Mahinda Rajapakshe .

The causes for the  delay of issuing other election results are due to not receiving postal votes as expected and  influence of lost candidates who had requested the election officials to re count the results of their polling divisions it has been revealed.

Unofficial results published by social media pages owned by some recognized electronic media institutions had revealed that the Sri Lanka Peoples Front under the  symbol flower bud lead many of the institutional  results.

A Three Wheeler Driver Was Killed Due To A Three Wheeler-Motorcycle Collision

A Three Wheeler driver was killed and two
motorcyclists were injured and hospitalized due to a Three Wheeler-Motorcycle collision occurred in eppawala area this noon (10).

The Three Wheeler driver was killed after the high speed Motorcycle which was collided with the Three Wheeler landed on his head according to reports.

The injured who were riding the Motorcycle were admitted to the Eppawala Hospital and later transferred to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital for further  treatment.

A 19 Year Old Youth Was Killed After Run Over By The Bus He Was Travelling

A 19 year old youth who was on the way to his village
in sammale ,Maskeliya area to cast his vote in the local government elections held today was killed after run over by  the Sri Lanka Transport Board Bus he was travelling in following his falling down from the footboard at kithulgala on Hatton-Colombo main road last evening (09).

The deceased youth was killed after run over by the bus travelling from Colombo to Thalawakale.

The post mortum of the deceased was performed in Awissawella Base Hospital.

Police have arrested the driver and Conductor of the Bus regarding the incident.

Violation Of Election Laws In Local Government Election- 39 Persons Including 08 Candidates Were Arrested

As the Local government elections held today (10)had
conducted mostly in a peacefull manner with few incidents ,Police have arrested 39 persons including 08 candidates over violating election laws according to the Police Media Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekare.

The election related violances were reported from kochchikade -Negambo, Kovilgala-Kanthale and Uhana-Ampara areas he has stated.

Meanwhile  two persons in Pujapitiya Polling Station in Kandy and A polling station in Aluthgama area who have photographed their ballot papers from their mobile phones  after marking them.

Police had also taken into custody the mobile phones used to photographed the ballot papers.

The person arrested in Pujapitiya polling station is due to be produced before the Kandy Magistrate Court and the person arrested at a polling station in Aluthgama was released on police bail and requested to appear before Kalutara Magistrate Court on 14th.

 Puttalam Police have arrested a 38 year old person this noon over serving  soft drinks to the voters at a polling station  in Thiladiya ,Rishaad Badurdeen collage this noon.The suspect is due to be produced before Puttalam District Court.




Voting Of The Local Government Elections Has Concluded-Overall Voter Turnout Exceeds 60%-Counting Had Begun

As the voting of the local government elections-2018 
concluded at 4 p.m this evening more than 60% overall voter turnout have been reported from 24 districts in the Island according to the Election Offficials.


The voter turnout of the Colombo District stil, not yet been announced.Voter turnouts of 24 Districts in the island of today's election stands at 4 p.m are as follows.

Gampaha 75%,Hambanthota 80%,Matale 80%,Nuwara Eliya 70%,Polonnaruwa 75%,Galle 75%,Matara 7o%,Kalutara 80%,Kurunagala 78%,Anuradhapura 85%,Kegalle 70%,Ratnapura 75-80%,Kandy 65%,Kilinochchi 76%,Jaffna 70%,Batticaloa 75%,Trincomalee 85%,Mulathivu 78%,Badulla 65+,Monaragala 80%,Vavuniya 72%,Puttalam 73%,Ampara 70% and Mannar 77%.

The voting of the Local government elections was held to appoint 8328 members to the 340 local government bodies including 24 Municipal Councils,41 Urban Councils and 275 Pradeshiya sabhas.

Around 57,097 candidates representating 43 registered political parties and 222 Independent Groups have been contested for this election .

The voting was held from 7 a.m to 4 p.m today in 13,374 polling stations throughout the Island  and 10.5 million voters were eligible to cast their  votes.

The chairman of the Elections Commission Mahinda Deshapriya has stated that the Ballot boxes were already transported to the 9000 counting centers situated throughout the Island and Counting has already begun.

The results of the 75% of the polling divisions can be announced by 9 p.m he has stated.The final election result is expected to be  announced  around 12 noon tomorrow (11) the Chairman of the Elections Commission has stressed.
