UNP Reformists Wants Government To Released Former Army Commander With Civic Rights

The Leader of the Reformist Group of Main Opposition United National Party (UNP) MP Karu Jayasuriya and Deputy Leader of UNP MP Sajith Premadasa today urged the government to release imprisoned former Army Commander Retired General Sarath Fonseka with civic rights as he has right to involve in active politics.Both MP's were visited General Fonseka at Welikada Prison today and afterwards made this request .

Both MP Jayasuriya and MP Premadasa pledged their support to Democratic National Alliance (DNA) MP Tiran Allas on his current negotiations goes on with President Mahinda Rajapaksha to get General Fonseka released.

Sri Lankan National Cricket Team Secured Their First Test Win Against South Africans

The Sri Lankan National Cricket Team today (29) secured their first ever Test Match win against South Africans played in Durban,South Africa when they beat the hosts by 208 runs with a day to spare .Sri Lanka scored 338 and 279 all out in their two innings and South Africans scored 168 and 241 respectively in their innings.


Out of the 9 test matches played between  two countries this was the first time that Sri Lankans beat the South Africans in a test match as well as in their home soil.Chasing 450 runs to win in a fourth days play South Africans were all out for 241 runs as Leg Spinner Rangana Herath grabbed 5 wickets for 79 runs.Earlier Both Thilan Samaraweera and Kumar Sangakkara were scored a century each during the first and second innings of Sri Lanka.

With today's result Sri Lankans now leveled the 3 match test series against South Africans  as 1-1.South Africans won the first test match.

Met Department Warns Fishermen In North And North East To Refrain From Fishing

The Metereology Department has today (29) has advised the Fishermen in North and East avoid of going fishing in seas from Mannar to Trinco via Jaffna as there is a threat of a mild storm in North and North Western Coastal areas.According to the Department Rough Seas will bew seen in those areas.

GMOA To Launch An Island Wide Strike After 31st Of December?

The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) has today warned the Health Authorities that government doctors  will launch an Island Wide Strike after  31st of December if the  authorities failed to issue the much awaited report of Committee appointed to review the quality of controversial Private Medical College situated in Malabe by 31st of December.

Speaking at the Press Briefing held at GMOA Office today (27) the assistant secretary of GMOA Dr.Sankalpa Marasinha has said that the deadline set by the committee it self to issue their report on Malabe Private Medical College had expired nearly a month ago and they should have respond the issue without delaying it further.The Executive Committee of GMOA is due to meet after 31st of December to decide the time frame of the proposed strike he stressed.

Non Communicable Diseases Amongst Sri Lankans Are In Increase Due To Bad Food Habits

The Non Communicable Diseases including Diabetes,High Blood Pressure and Stroke are in increase amongst Sri Lankans due to the higher daily  consumption of  Salt,Sugar and Oil  The head of the Nutrition Unit in Medical Research Institute Dr.Renuka Jayathissa has said today(27). According to Dr.Jayathissa the daily consumption of Salt,Sugar and Oil of Sri Lankans are  more than two times higher then the quantity required .

An average Sri Lankan consumed 10.8 -11 Grammes of Salt daily as the required quantity is around 5 Grammes and the quantity of Sugar and Oil are in the same status she has stressed."Now the comes to introduce low salt,sugar and oily Food Recipes to the public to avoid the spreading of non communicable diseases "Dr.Jayathissa further said.


Public should have use alternative ways when preparing meals like using Baking Method instead of frying food items with oil .She stressed.Dr.Jayathissa has expressed these views at the Media Seminar held today on "Healthy Living Style by reducing Salt and Sugar intake" held at Health Education Bureau today.

Former Test Skipper Mahela Reached The 10,000 th Run In Test Cricket

Former Sri Lankan Skipper Mahela Jayawardena has today (26)became the first Sri Lankan Cricketer to score 10,000 Runs in Test Match Cricket as he reached the milestone during the first day's play in second Test Match against South Africa currently been played in Durban,South Africa.Mahela is the 9th Cricketer of the world who has reached this milestone.He was out after scoring 31 runs today as his Test Cricket Runs stands as 10,030.

He has already surpassed the 10,000 run mark in One Day Internationals(ODI)

Met Department Warned Jaffna Fishermen To Refrain From Fishing Due To A Cyclonic Condition

The Department Of Meteorology has warned the Fishermen reside in Eastern Jaffna to refrain from fishing in the seas Northern and Eastern Seas from  Mannar to Batticloe as the low pressure built in Bay Of Bengal is  developed in to a Cyclone.According to the Meteorologists a cyclonic condition is developing in 750 Kilo Meters east of Jaffna.

During last few weeks Seas in North to Southern Sri Lanka have experienced rough waves and gusty winds due to the low pressure area developed in Bay Of Bengal.

Met Department Urging Fishermen To Refrain From Going To Sea Due To Depression

The Meteorology Department has urging  Sri Lankan Fishermen to refrain from going to seas from Mannar to Hambantota due to the depression build in Bay of Bengal.The low pressure that seen there in last few days now developed to a depression according to Department Sources.

Due to the Depression build in heavy rains and strong winds as well as rough seas are forecast from the areas of Mannar,Jaffna,Batticloe and Hamabanthota the Met Department has stated.

Government Hospital Nurses To Launch An Island Wide Strike From 15th Of January

The largest Nurses Trade Union Public Services Nurses Union (PSNU) has threatened to launch an Island Wide Strike of Government Hospital Nurses from 15th of January 2012 if the Health Ministry has failed to give permanent solutions for 11 of their service demands according to the Union President Ven.Muruththettuwe Ananda Thero.

The Demands including the implementation of delayed Nurses Constitution,Increase the Uniform Allowance and implementing the Nursing Degree Course are even acceptable as reasonable demands by the Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena Ven.Ananda Thero said.

The Executive Committee of the PSNU met recently unanimously decided to go for an island wide strike if the authorities failed to give prompt solutions  for nurses demands he further added

Thirteen Suspects Arrested For "Sirikotha" Attack Released On Bail

Thirteen United National Party (UNP) supporters  who were remanded till 02nd of January in connection of  damaging the properties of UNP Headquarters at "Sirikotha" on last monday were released today (22)on  bail by Nugegoda Magistrate.

The accused who were released today included UNP Provincial Council Members Maithri Gunaratne and Srilal Lakthilake.

As Government MP's Assaulted Their MP All UNP Mp's Walked Out From The Parliament

All MP's of the main opposition United National Party(UNP) have walked out from the Parliament Premises this morning following the assault of their MP Range Bandara by some Government MP's during the ongoing Budget Debate.

While MP Bandara make his speech on committee stage of the Budget Debate on  Ministry Of Defense and Urban Development Government MP's continuously interrupted him and when he attempted to continue his speech disregarding the allotted time given to him some Government MP's attacked him according to reports.

Tense Situation Occured At UNP Headquarters Following The Party Elections

A Tense situation had occurred near UNP Headquarters at Sirikotha this evening following the announcement of Party's Election Results which saw large number of party supporters gathered out side Sirikotha broke the wooden gate of the headquarters and tried to invade in to the premisses.The attempt however blocked by the Police Personal who guarded there and dispersed the supporters who   tried get in to the premises.

By showing their displeasure some party supporters thrown stones and  shouted slogans and some were seen hoisted  white flags at the party headquarter premises.Due to the tense situation Police has closed the road between Etul Kotte and Pita Kotte for several hours causing much hardships for passengers.

Opposition Leader Ranil Wickramasinha Has Re Elected As The Pary Leader In A Crucial Ballot-MP Sajith Re Elected As Deputy Leader

The much waited Elections of the main Opposition United National Party(UNP)  to elect a new leader and officials for the year 2012 had ended this evening by re elected the present Party Leader Ranil Wickramasinha by a majority of 42 votes.The Party Elections which was held as  a secret ballot at Party Headquarters in Sirikotha  Etul Kotte saw Party and Opposition Leader Ranil Wickramasinha has contested with Deputy Leader MP Karu Jayasuriya .

At the end Current Leader has received 68 votes while MP Jayasurya received 26 votes.In other results Deputy Leader MP Sajith Premadasa re elected as Deputy Leader of the Party by majority of 08 votes.He had defeated his opponent former National Organizer MP Ravi Karunanayake.MP Premadasa has secured 50 votes while MP Karunanayake has received 42 votes.MP Dayasiri Jayasekera was beaten by Daya Gamage when they have contested for the National Organizer Post.Daya Gamage received 56 votes while MP Jayasekera has received 36 votes.

A large number of Party Supporters were  gathered near UNP Headquarters since this noon to witness the proceedings.

92 Persons Got Injured 6 Died Daily Due To Vehicle Accidents.

Around 92 persons got injured and 6 died daily  in Sri Lanka due to Vehicle Accidents  according to the Police Vehicle Headquarters.Also more than 10 billion Rupees worth property are destroyed annually due to these accidents it has been reported.

According to the Police Vehicle Headquarters most number of vehicle accidents are occur due to overtaking another vehicle and significant number of people have complained this situation to the Police.These facts were revealed at  a Media Seminar held in Colombo today under the theme "Preventing Road Accidents during the forthcoming Festive Season "

First Ever Modern Theater In Sri Lanka Was Declared Open By President

The first ever Sri Lankan  theater equipped with modern facilities The"Nelum Pokuna " (Lotus Pond)Mahinda Rajapaksha National Performing Arts Theater was declared open by President Mahinda Rajapaksha this evening .The Rs.36,000 Million Theater is   gifted to  Sri Lanka by Peoples Republic Of China.

Chinese Delegate compromising with the special envoy Zhang Meiying who is the vice Chairperson of Chinese People"s Political  Consultative Conference was also graced the occasion.The Newly Built Theater situated in heart of Colombo is equipped with One Main Theater two mini Theaters,Operational Units,M eating and Dressing Halls.An Underground Car Park  too built there for Artistes and Visitors.

The Road from Horton Place to the Public Library in Colombo 07 was also named as Nelum Pokuna Road.

The Decision On Using Plastic Baskets To Transport Vegetables And Fruits Has Suspended

Due to the government's  decision to suspend the new regulation  on making compulsory the using of Plastic Baskets when transporting vegetables and fruits ,The Vendors have agreed to return the Vegetable market  to normal from today the President's Media has reported.

The decision to suspend the previous decision on transporting vegetables and fruits was taken during a meeting between President Mahinda Rajapaksha and Vegetable Traders held yesterday(14).

Angry Vegetable Vendors In Colombo And Other Areas Protests Against Using Of Plastic Containers To Transport Vegetables And Fruits

A Heavy Traffic Jam is reported from Colombo Fort and surrounding areas  this morning (14) due to the protest campaign launched by Manning Market Vegetable Vendors to oppose the new regualtions implemented by Government on transporting Vegetables and Fruits in Plastic Containers.Government make this new regualtion compulsory with effect from midnight last Sunday.

As  Vendors are not responded to the government's decision positively the Consumer Affairs Authority officials have arrested 40  lorries at Hanwella and paliyagoda for transporting vegetables and fruits without plastic containers and produced them before court.Following this incident angry Vegetable Vendors entered to the streets in Fort,Dambulla,Bandarawela and many other areas and protested against this new regulation.During yesterday's protests vendors who are in to the streets set fire to many vegetables and they have also  thrown varities of vegetables to the streets.This act was done in other areas too according to reports.
As Vegetable Vendors opposing the using of Plastic Containers to transport vegetables and fruits to the market the Corporative Affairs and Internal Trade  Minister Johnston Fernando has stated that the government will not changed it's decision on using plastic containers for transporting vegetables and fruits and vendors can get  containers for lease as well as for rent by paying a resonable price .

The new regualtion was introduced to save the  30 percent of  vegetables and fruits which are going in to waste  when they are transport in bags he stressed.

Parliament MP's Team Beat Ministers Team In Speakers Cup Cricket Tournment

The Parliament MP's team had  won the Speaker's Cup 20 over Soft Ball Cricket Match   played against Minister's Team today (11) at Torrington Grounds in Colombo 07 by 70 runs .The MP's Team led by former National Cricket Captain Sanath Jayasuriya scored 176 runs for the loss of 9 wickets during their 20 overs and replying the Minister's Team led by Petroleum Minister Susil Premjayanth only able to reached 105 runs for the loss of 7 wickets.

Sanath Jayasuriya was the top scorer of the match with 42 runs and MP Akila Viraj Kariyawasam was adjudged as the Best Batsman while Minsiter Dallas Alahapperuma bagged the Man Of The Match Award.Speaker Chamal Rajpaksha as well as President Mahinda Rajapaksha and Opposition Leader Ranil Wickramasinha were present the ground to deliver prizes.

Due to this Cricket Match the Independence Square was closed today from 2 p.m till the end of the match.

Around 100 Rehabilitated LTTE Combatants Visited The Parliament

Around 100 rehabilitated LTTE Combatants who are due to re integrated to Society have  visited National Parliament in Sri Jayawardenapura ,Kotte today (09) to witness the Budget Debate currently goes on.These ex combatants were viewed the Committee stage of the Budget Debate on Ministry of  Rehabilitation and Prison Reforms .

Most of these ex combatants are former University Students who dropped from their education activities after they were forcibly recruited to LTTE during the war period.

Sri Lankan Government Hospitals Faced A Severe Shoratge Of Gynecologists

Sri Lankan Government Hospitals having faced a severe shortage of Gynecologists according to the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA).GMOA Spokesman has said that at present there's a shortage of 85 Gynecologists in Hospitals while the Post Graduate Institute Of Medicine(PGIM) in Colombo having  passed only 5 Gynecologists per year.

At present there are only 180 Gynecology Doctors including consultants are  available in the Country which is not sufficient the spokesman has said.

While passing 5 Gynecologists per year the PGIM has failed around 50-60 Doctors who have selected Gynecology as their subject stream for Post Graduate Studies which cannot be acceptable the spokesman stressed.Due to  this  situation the Doctors are deterred to select Gynecology for their Post Graduate Studies he has  further added.

Meanwhile when contacted a Higher Official attached to  Ministry Of Health has said that the Ministry it self had already informed PGIM Authorities to increased the number of Gynecologists passing out from the Institute.

Cardiac Surgeries Performs In Sri Jayawardenapura Teaching Hospital Halted Due To Shortage Of Doctors

The Cardiac  Surgeries including By Pass Surgeries performs in Sri Jayawardenapura Teaching Hospital at Kotte (Colombo Suburbs) have stopped since Last Week due to the shortage of Doctors in theaters hospital sources have revealed today(07).The Cardiac  Unit of the Hospital is running short of Doctors who are assisting Consultant Cardiac  Surgeons during Surgeries as there's a need of two such doctors according to sources.

Due to this situation hospital authorities have restricted admitting new heart patients to the unit who needs to undergo Heart Surgeries and those in wards who are in serious condition are sending to Colombo National Hospital a hospital spokesman has said.Around 2 Cardiac  Surgeries per day performed at the unit he stressed.


Meanwhile when contacted the Hospital Administration stressed that they have already informed the situation to Health Ministry Officials and requested them to send at least two doctors to begin  Cardiac Surgeries again .However the Ministry Sources said it will be not possible to recruit two doctors immediately as requested.

Sri Jayawardenapura Hospital is the only Semi Government Hospital situated in Sri Lanka .

GMOA To Decide Their Future Action On Malabe Private Medical Colage After Examining The Committee Report

Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) has requested the Committee appointed to check quality of the controversial Malabe Private Medical Collage to submit it's report to the Association within two week's time .The GMOA will decide their future course of action after examining the said report Assistant Secretary of GMOA Dr.Upul Gunasekera has said today (06).

Addressing a press briefing held today at GMOA Headquarters in Colombo Dr.Gunasekara has stressed that the Malabe Private Medical Collage is a black mark to the Country ."How can the officials who are not even able to solving problems related to Local Rajarata Medical Faculty trying to award Degree Certificates through the said Private Medical Collage" he has questioned.

The relevant authorities who are trying to recognized the Private Medical Collage are also responsible for blocking the Mental Health Diploma Course conducted by Colombo Postgraduate Institute Of Medicine Dr.Gunasekara further added.

Para Medical Staff To Launch An Island Wide Token Strike On 21st Of December

Para Medical Services Joint Front compromising 9 Trade Unions today announced that they will launch an Island Wide Token Strike in Government Hospitals on 21st of December if the Health Authorities have failed to solved their 8 demands.

The Demands including allowing their service personal to study up to Degree Level were already produced to the Health Ministry Officials for consideration according to the convener of the Joint Front Mr.Najith Sumanasena.

The Para Medical Services Joint Front compromising 9 professions including  ECG and EEG Technicians,Entomology Assistant Officers and Public Health Inspectors.

Deputy Leader Of Main Opposition Karu Jayasuriya To Contest For The Party Leadership

Deputy Leader of the main opposition United National Party (UNP) MP Karu Jayasuriya has stated today (05) that he decided to contest for  leadership of the Party during forthcoming working meeting .He said through a Press Release issued today  that he has  decided to contest for the Party Leadership Due to the vast number of invitations received during past few weeks  from  Buddhist Clergy,Other Religious Leaders ,Branch Unions of the Party,Civil Organizations,Supporters and well wishers .

Meteorology Dept.Warned Fishermen On Bad Weather

The Meteorology Department has advised local fishermen today to beware of the rough seas with strong winds at seas in Trincomalee,Batticloe,Ampara ,Hambanthota,Galle and Matara.

Heavy Showers were experienced in most parts of the country today assisted with some strong winds.

The Second Reading Of 2012 Budget Proposals Passed

The Second Reading of the 2012 Budget Proposals was passed at the Parliament this evening with a majority of 91 votes.During the vote 151 MP's voted in favor of the Budget while 60 MP's voted against it.

The Rock Situated At Entrance Channal Of Hambanthota Harbor Was Blasted

The Rock situated at the entering channel of newly constructed Hambanthota International  Harbor(Southern Province) was blasted at a cost of US Dollars 35-40 million and now the pieces of blasted rock are being removed from the area according to the Harbor spokesman.The blasted rock was prevented  berthing of large ships at the Harbor.

The Harbor Officials are expecting to clear the operations on removing  rock pieces withing three weeks time enabling larger ships,container carriers and mammoth oil tankers to enter the Hambanthota Harbor.The rock was blasted by China Engineering Company.The main opposition parties have revealed for the first time last year that there was a rock at  Hambanthota Harbor which prevents the entering of Ships to Harbor.

Police Dispersed JVP Protestors Through Tear Gas and Water Canons

The Police used tear gas and water canon to dispersed a group of Leftist JVP (Janatha Wimukthi Peramuna) Supporters belongs to Socialists Youth Union who gathered at  Lake House Roundabout when they tried to  marched to wards the Ministry Of Finance .The protestors were marched to opposed the Budget Proposals and demanding job opportunities for an unemployed graduates while carrying some placards  with them.


The protestors have exchanged stones with  Police as they were prevented by  entering the Ministry.

Opposition MP Grero Crossed Over To The Govt.Bench

UNP MP and Ratmalana Party Organizer Mohan Lal Grero has  made a special statement this morning(30) at the Parliament by stating that he will support Government's Budget Proposals and later crossed over to the Government Bench.Before crossing over to  Government Bench he has voted in favor of the Budget Proposals 2012.

Heavy Traffic Jam Occured In Town Hall -Colombo Due To The Opposition Protest Campaign

A heavy Traffic Jam was occurred this evening at the Heart of the Colombo City "Town Halll" due to the Protest campaign conducted by Main Opposition United National Party(UNP) by  demanding the unconditional release of  former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka.

As large number of opposition supporters gathered in  Hyde Park situated in Town Hall for the protest campaign since this noon, Police Officers have seen trying to control the traffic jam occurred in many sub routes to Town Hall and minimize the difficulties faced by Commuters.Several Opposition MP's along with  Opposition Leader Ranil Wickramasinha were attended the Protest Campaign which lasted for several hours.

CID Informs Colombo Magistrate Court That MP Silva Will Be Arrested After Returns To The Country

The Criminal Investigations Department(CID) informs the Colombo Magistrate Court today(28) that as the MP Duminda Silva is in abroad for seeking Medical Treatment he will be arrested on his arrival to the country as per the order of court.

The Colombo Magistrate Court has ordered the CID to arrest MP Silva on 15th of November  in connection to the killing of former Government MP Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra during the Mulleriyawa shooting incident occurred last month.

Speaker Has Suspended Deputy Minsiter Of Petroleum By Attending Parliament

The Speaker Chamal Rajapaksha has today (28) suspended Deputy Minister of Petroleum MP Sarana Gunawardena  from attending Parliamentary Sessions for a period of one week after found guilty for his misbehavior during the Budget Speech made by President Mahinda Rajapaksha last week.

Following the order of  Speaker  the leader of the house Nimal Siripala De Silva has proposed a motion preventing the Deputy Minister from  attending Parliament for one week and afterwards the speaker himself imposed the suspension.

Several Opposition MP's attached to the Main Opposition United National Party were attacked by a group of Government Parliamentarians on 21st of November during President's Budget Speech as the UNP MP's were holding  a placards condemning the Budget Proposals and the court decision to imprisoned former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka.

Southern Expressway Was Innaugurated Today

The first ever Express High Way in Sri Lanka The Southern Expressway was inaugurated by President Mahinda Rajapaksha this morning(27).The President was opened the access road to the Expressway from Pinnaduwa Inter Change in City of Galle of Southern Province.
 

The Southern Expressway is opened to Public since 6 a.m this morning and a fee for a Car to make a complete journey is Rs.400.The Expressway which has 95  K.M runs from Kottawa in Colombo District to Pinnaduwa in Galle District.The Southern Expressway was constructed at an estimated Rs.70 Billion


President Rajapaksha was drove a Car to Dodangoda from Katandeniya through the Expressway as a mark of  opening the expressway..

Under the second phase of the Southern Expressway it will extended to Matara and it will be connected to Colombo-Katunayake Expressway by the year 2013.

9 People Died And 30 Fishermen Missing Due To The Adverse Weather Conditions Prevails In Most Parts Of The Country

Nine people including fishermen have died due to the adverse weather conditions prevailed in the country with strong winds,rain and rough seas since yesterday(25th) according to Disaster Management Center .Around 30 fishermen who went out to the sea with strong winds and rain are reported as missing the Center has said.

Seven Deaths were reported from Matara District (Southern Province) alone yesterday as three persons died in the district due to fallen trees and four fishermen drowned with their boats due to  rough seas.One death each has been  reported from Monaragala and Galle Districts.

Strong winds with  heavy showers damaged 1061  houses in the area as 106 houses damaged and 955 houses partially damaged.Several School Buildings in  Matara District too got damaged  according to  Disaster Management Center.Trees have been fallen and power failures were reported from  Galle District too (Southern Province) while several houses got damaged due to the weather.Injuries were also reported from Anuradhapura District .Up to now around 1200 families have been affected due to the Adverse Weather Conditions.


Meanwhile the Meteorology Department has aid that the showers or thunder showers will continue over most parts of the country today(26) as well.Seas will be rough warned by the Department.

Chamber Of Pharmaceutical Drugs In Sri Lanka To Support Drug Policy While Opposing The Drug Price Control Mechanism

The Chamber of Pharmaceutical Drugs In Sri Lanka stated today that they have been opposing the proposed Drug Price Control Mechanism of the Government as it will become a burden to the patients.The President of the Chamber Mr.Vish Govinda Swamy said today that they will supporting the proposed National Drugs Policy if the authorities are willing to implement that soon but not the price control mechanism which has proved as a useless system in other fields too.

Addressing a press briefing held in Colombo this eve Mr.Govinda Swamy has stressed that to tackle the rising drug prices in private pharmacies the chamber of pharmaceutical industry in Sri Lanka will introduce a price marking system of every drug that sold in those pharmacies and have already advised the pharmacy owners to marked  the prices of drugs on  the labels of every drug .

"We still think the only way to tackle the problems related to medicinal drugs of sri lanka including the quality and the price problem is non other then implementing the proposed National Drugs Policy made by late professor senaka bibile".But without trying to implement that policy soon wonder why the authorities are trying to introduced a drug price control mechanism in a hurry  " he has questioned.

As The Pharmacy Drugs Prices Are In Increase Majority Of Patients Avoid Of Buying Them

Majority of the patients are avoid of buying medicinal drugs  through the private pharmacies nowadays due to the ever rising prices of them health sources have revealed today (23).As the patients are not buying  drugs  the sales of these pharmacies too dropped sharply. According to the sources the prices of almost every drug available in those pharmacies  have  increased during past few weeks without an exact reason.

Prices of some essential drugs including drugs prescribed for Diabetes,High Blood Pressure,Cholesterol and Heart Diseases were increased by  more than 10 percent during this month .

Due to this situation the majority of government hospital patients have  avoid of buying the drugs from private pharmacies although  prescribed by hospital doctors and doctors are warning that the conditions of these patients will get worsen if they continue to avoid of buying prescribed  drugs for their ailments.

The Final Report Of Lessons Learn t And Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) Was Handed Over To The President

The final  report of the Lessons Learn t And Reconciliation Commission(LLRC) was  handed over to the President  Mahinda Rajapaksha to day (20) at Temple Trees by the Commission's Chairman C.R De Silva.The Commission was appointed by  President in the year 2010 .

The Lessons Learn t And Reconciliation Commission had gathered over 1000 public evidence during their proceedings.Commission Members finished the final report on 15th of November according to the sources.

Former Army Commander General Sarath Fonseka Was Found Guilty On White Flag Case And Sentenced To Three Years Of Imprisonment

The Special Three Member Judge Panel of  Colombo High Court has today (18th) found Former Army Commander and the leader of Democratic National Alliance (DNA) Retired General Sarath Fonseka was  guilty for  first charge out of the three charges against him in  "White Flag Case " and sentenced him a  three years of  rigourous  imprisonment .The Judge Panel was also fined General Fonseka a Rs.5000 fine.

The Judgment was a divided one as 2:1 while 2  judges including  the chairman of judge  Panel justice Deepali Wijesundera judged General Fonseka as found guilty for one of the three charges filed against him and 1 judge judged as he was not guilty for all the three charges.The 2 judges who were given their judgment against  General Fonseka found him guilty on the first charge against him inciting violance through his statment on "White Flag Issue" while found he was not guilty for the rest of the charges.

General Fonseka is currently serving a 30 month jail sentence imposed by the local Court Martial.The former Army Commander was charged for a statement made by him for the local weekend newspaper stating the troops have killed number of LTTE Leaders under the direction of higher official when they tried to surrender with white flags during the final phase of the war against LTTE in 2009.

During today's court proceedings security was tightened in and around the High Court Complex in Colombo with large number of armed police officers.

Gas Prices Will Not Increased -Cooperatives And Internal Trade Minister

Although Laugfs Gas Company has requested the Government to increased the price of a Gas Cylinder the Gas Prices will not be increased the Minister Of Cooperatives and Internal Trade Johnston Fernando has announced today (16th).

As only the Laugfs Gas Company made a request to increased the Gas Prices there will be no  revision of Gas Prices withing this year according to the Minster.The last Gas Price revision was on Last August.

GMOA Called An Emergency General Meeting Tomorrow To Discuss Future Course Of Action Against A Batch Of Registered Medical Practitioners

The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) has called an emergency General Meeting at 12 noon tomorrow(17th) to discuss their future course of action on the 70 Registered and Assistant Medical Practitioners who have produced bogus Medical Certificates to Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) to obtained registration.

According to the Assistant Secretary of GMOA Dr.Upul Gunasekera if the SLMC is to give the registration to these Medical Practitioners all the MBBS Graduate Doctors attached to Government Hospitals Island wide will withdraw their registration form the Medical Council and resigned from their service.

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) too found when they inquired on those Registered And Assistant Medical Practitioners that they followed a six month course in Sri Lanka with  Russian lecturers have lectured them while obtained 3 year fully paid duty leave to study in Saint Petersberg Medical Academy in Russia Dr.Gunesekera has stated.However they have produced bogus Medical Certificates to the SLMC claiming they received the certificates from the Russian Medical Academy he stressed.

Western Provincial Doctors Called Off Their Proposed Strike

 Western Provincial Hospital Doctors have  suspended their one day token strike action scheduled to be launched today (16) demanding to pay their Telephone Allowance according to the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA).

The strike action was called off after  the Western Provincial Health Services Director sent the Applications of Doctors regarding  Telephone Allowance to Ministry Of Health GMOA has stated.

Glass Piece Contained Injection Vial Had Found From Colombo National Hospital

An Injection Vial contained with pieces of Glass has been found from the Accident Service of Colombo National Hospital on last sunday according to the hospitals sources.The contaminated Injection Vial "Flucanazole IV" which adminstered for infections was imported from a Drug Company based in Chacharwadi ,Ahamadabad ,India according to sources.

The hospital authorities have sent the contaminated injection vial to the national drug quality assuarance laboratory for further investigations and temporarily removed the injection vials belongs to the batch number of contaminated injection vial 382213 from use as a precautionary meassure.

Colombo Magistrate Court Ordered To Arrest MP Over Mulleriyawa Shooting

The Colombo Magistrate Court this evening has ordered the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to arrest MP Duminda Silva and produced before Court regarding the Mulleriyawa Shooting Incident occured in  08th of October (Local Government Elections Day) which killed former Government MP Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra and three others.

MP Silva who is  also got injured during the shooting was admitted to Sri Jayawardenapura Teaching Hospital and later his relatives  taken him to a foreign country for further treatment.A Police Constable serving as a Security Officer to the MP Silva was arrested and remanded after being identified as the person who shoot former MP Premachandra.

The Investigatons on the Mulleriyawa Shooting Incident had been handed over to the CID.

Western Provincial Council Govt.Hospital Docs To Launch A One Day Token Strike Tomorrow

The Doctors attached to Government Hospitals belongs to the Western Provincial Council are to launch one day token strike from 8 A.M to 4 P.M tomorrow(16) demanding the paying of  delayed Telephone Allowance to them.

According to the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) almost all other Provincial Council based Government Hospitals payed their Doctors the Telephone Allowance except the Western Provincial Council Hospitals.

A Fly Contaminated "Cloxacillin "Injection Vial Found From Colombo South Teaching Hospital

A fly was found inside of a "Cloxacilin " Injection Vial scheduled to be inject a patient at Surgical Ward of the Colombo South (Kalubowila) Teaching Hospital on yesterday (11) the hospital sources have revealed.The Injection Vial was sent to the National Drug Quality Assurance Laboratory for further tests according to a hospital spokesman.

Hospital Authorities have also informed the Medical Supplies Division (MSD) which supplied the Injection Vials to the hospitals on this the sources further added.However still the relevant authorities are not able to withdraw the batch of "Cloxacilin" Injection related  to the fly contaminated Injection Vial  as a precautionary measure it has been reported.
