Public Utilities Commission Split In To Two Sections Over Electricity Bill Hike

Public utilities Commission which has the final authority to decide whether to approve Cabinet decision on increasing Electricity bill had broken in to two sections over the Cabinet decision according to the chairman of the Commission Janaka Ratnayake .

The Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission Janaka Ratnayake had accused at a Press briefing held yesterday (21) that although the four members of the commission including him had opposed initially on increasing the Electricity bill ,President Ranil Wikramasinghe had held a discussion with other three member of the Commission at President's office without inviting him and got approval of those three members for the decision .The Chairman of Public utilities commission had stated that he will take a legal action against other three members of the commission over giving approval for the cabinet decision to increase electricity bill without his consent .,

State Funeral Of First Female Director Of Sinhala Cinema Late Sumithra Pieris To Be Held Today (21)

A State funeral is scheduled to be held today (21) fat the Independence Square in Colombo-07 for the first professional female Cinema director of the Sinhala cinema Dr.Sumithra Pieris who had passed away last Thursday (19) morning whilst receiving treatment in Hospital .She is 88 years old at the time of her death .

Dr.pieris who had married to the pioneer Director in Sinhala Cinema the late Dr.Lester James Pieris recognized internationally as the father of Sinhala cinema had created 10 artistic films and worked as the Director ,Producer ,Screen writer and Editor of those films .Her remains are lied at her sister's residence in Gowers street ,Colombo 05 for public to pay last respect .

Seven Persons Died -Fourty One Students Injured Due To A Bus-Van-Three Wheeler Collision -Bus Had Fallen To A Precipice

Seven persons died and forty one school children had been injured and hospitalized due to a Bus-Van-Three wheeler collision occurred at a risky Keti road at Radalla area in Nanuoya,Nuwara eliya(Central province ) last night (20).

Due to the incident six out of the nine persons travelled in the Van and the driver of the Three wheeler had died and forty one students travelled in the Bus who are students of Thurstan Collage ,Colombo had been injured as the Bus had fallen to a precipice as a result of the collision .All the students in the bus except three admitted to Nuwara Eliya Base Hospital for treatment and their condition is not serious accordance to the hospital sources.

Due to the incident the Bus and the Three wheeler had been damaged severely it has been reported ,The students attached to Thurstan collage Colombo travelled in the bus were on an educational tour to radella area at the time of the incident .,The reason behind the incident has not yet been revealed according to the Police .
