Transporting Of Ballot Boxea To Polling Stations Will Begin Tomorrow (04) Morning

Transporting of Ballot boxes to the

polling stations will begin at 8 a.m tomorrow (04) morning according to the National Election Commission .

Issuing of Ballot boxes to transport to Polling Centers will be done at 71 premises the Commission has stated .

Meanwhile all polling stations set up for the forthcoming General Election are being disinfected both today (03) and tomorrow  (04)according to the Commission .

Those In Quarantine Centers Are Not Eligible To Vote In General Election

All those who are in Quarantine

Centers including the Sri Lankans  brought back from foreign countries due to Corona pandamic and those close contacts of Corona positives who are in house quarantine ,are not eligible to cast their vote during Wednesday 's (05)General Election according to the chairman of National Election Commission Mahinda Deshapriya.

However those Corona positives who had been discharged from hospitals after full recovery and currently in self quarantine are eligible to vote in this election and they are able to caSt their vote after other voters cast their votes from 4 to 5 p.m in the evening he has stated. These cured corona positives who are under self quarantine can come to the polling station with their own vehicle and for them a separate polling room is being established in polling stations to cast vote Election Commission Chairman has said  .

A health official will be appointed as an Assistant Election Officer to monitor when these self quarantine  voters are casting their votes  he has further said.

As all polling Centers ara being disinfected people can come to policing stations to cast their vote by wearing masks without fear  he has further added .

Five Corona Positives Reported Today (03)

A total of 05 Corona positives had been
reported in the country today (03) until 11.45 p.m ,increasing the total num

ber of Corona positives reported so far to 2828 according to Epidemeology Unit .

Accordingly 04 arrivals from Saudi Arabia and a 05 year old daughter of the Corona positive civil Defense force personal identified from Lankapura Divisional secretariet in Polonnaruwa  District  had tested positive for Corona virus today .

At the moment 300 Corona positives are being treated at Government Hospitals it has been  reported.

Meanwhile the corona positive identified from Lankapura today also belonging to the extended Kandakadu Corona cluster which now got 601 Corona positives. Out of the 601 Corona positives of the Kandakadu Corona cluster 482 are rehabilitated Prison inmates .

Out of the  "PCR "tests conducted for  1200 close contacts of Lankapura corona positives 942 had tested negative for corona virus so far  it has been  revealed.

General Election -All Election Propaganda Activities Ended Midnight Last Night (02)-Voters Are Being Allowed To Use Their Own Pen To Mark Ballot Paper Due To Pandamic

All election Propaganda Work related

to the forthcoming General Elections scheduled to be held this Wednesday (05) ended last midnight  (02) .

National Election Commission has declared a 48 hour  period of silence from today  (03) untill the election day and All election Propaganda work or an activity promoting a candidate will be banned during this period the Commission has stated .

Meanwhile the General Election is scheduled to be held on this Wednesday according to the Corona Control Health guidelines it has been announced. A separate office for health officers including public health inspectors and MOH will be set up at every polling station in MOH areas to monitor the adapting of Health guidelines according to the Health Ministey .

 Voters can  cast their vote by keeping social distancing among each other and cleaning their hands by using sanitizer provided at the polling stations.

For the first time Voters Can use their own pen to mark the ballot paper at this election due to the Corona pandamic risk.However the pen used by the voter should not have contained an ink with a color  promoting a candidate or a party Election Comission has stated. 

If a voter needs  a pen from the polling  station it  will provide a sanitized pen to mark the ballot paper the Commission has stressed  .


Meanwhile as the National Identity Card is compulsory for voting anyone can produce their driving licence if they do not posses an Identity card according to authorities.
