Eighteen Children Used For Begging Detained During Last Three Months
An eighteen children used for begging in the streets
had been taken into custody during the raids carried out in last three months according to the Police headquarters.
Eleven of the detained children are boys and seven are girls it has been stated.
Fourteen children have been handed over to their parents under a court order and four are under probation according to the sources.
Health Minister Praises The Increase Of White Sugar Tax -Consumer Affairs Authority Is In War Against Price Hikers
Health Minister Dr.Rajitha Senaratne has yesterday
(09) praised the increasing of Special Commodity Tax imposed on imported white sugar and stated that the move will be helpful to control the spreading of non communicable diseases including Diabetes in the country .
However the Consumer Affairs Authority has stated that it will punish any trader who increased the price of imported white sugar.
As the White sugar considered as a certain item under the Consumer Affairs Authority Act, traders should get an approval from the authority prior to increasing the prices of imported whiter sugar it has been stated.

Asian Development Bank To Provide US Dollars Two Million For Flood And Landslide Victims
The Asian Development Bank has agreed to grant US
dollars 2 million to Sri Lanka to provide relief for flood and landslide victims.
An agreement had been signed regarding this between the secretary to the Ministry of Finance and Media Dr.R.H.S Samarathunge and the residential representative in Sri Lanka for Asian Development Bank R.Hayashi yesterday (09).
This money will be utilized to purchase essential goods for the displaced and affected persons in flood and landslide hit areas according to local authorities.

Families In Several Areas In Ratnapura Evacuated Due To Landslide Threats
Families in several areas of Ratnapura District
including Ehaliyagoda have been evacuated from their houses during last few days due to the landslide threats it has been reported.
These families are now reside in schools and temples in the area.Families have been evacuated as cracks and mud water appeared on some mountains .
Meanwhile National Building Research Organization has again yesterday (09) extended the landslide warnings issued to seven districts Ratnapura ,Kegalle Galle, Matara ,Hambanthota,Nuwara Eliya and Kalutara up to 2 p.m this evening.
Still more than 600,000 peersons mainly in eight districts have been displaced and affected due to landslides and floods according to the reports.
Meanwhile Minister Sarath Amunugama has stated that there were discussions held with provincial authorities regarding providing a payment for the displaced persons and the payment will either be deposited in the bank accounts of the displaced or a new bank accounts opened for them.
The distributing of essential goods for displaced and affected persons in affected areas still continues .Now some organizations are collecting school bags,text books and other school equipment for the displaced school children to distribute among them.
The largest super market chain in Sri Lanka had last week distributed Rs.40 million worth goods for the displaced and affected people in the relevant districts with the assistance of another organization.A family received a bag contains essential food items sufficient for two weeks plus a germ killer bottle it has been reported.

A 41 Year Old Person Has Drowned In Kandalama Wewa While Bathing
A 41 year old person has drowned in Kandalama Reservoir (Wewa) last evening (08) after bathing in an insecure area despite the warnings issued by life saving officers.
After being informed by the family members of the victim ,Life saving officials had recovered the body of the drowned person from deep inside the water and sent the victim to Dambulle Hospital for treatment after given the first aid.However the drowned has been declared as dead before admission to the hospital .
Although the life saving officials have marked three areas in Kandalama Reservoir as safe for bathing and display red flags in those areas,the deceased had removed those flags and began bathing in an insecure area it has been revealed.

A Sudden Fire Erupted In A Tea Facory Severely Damaged The Factory
Due to a sudden fire erupted this morning(09),A Tea Factory in Gorakaoya area ,Nawalapitiya had been severely damaged and tea powder stored in the factory had destroyed according to sources.
The fire brigade attached to the Kandy Urban Council had doused the fire.The cause for the fire not yet been revealed and no casualties have been reported .

The Janatha Wimukthi Peramuna (JVP) MP Sunil Handunneththi has stated during the debate that the government do not have a proper plan to face a Natural Disaster situation.The MP had also criticized the process of identifying landslide prone areas .
