Northern Provincial Council To Set Up A 1000 Acre Grass Land To Increase Milk Production

Northern Provincial Council has

approved a proposal to set up a 1000 acre grass land in Mulathivu in view of increasing the Milk Production of North with the financial aid of Switzerland.

Accordigingly the Agriculture Ministry in Northern Provincial Council has decided to cultivate grass in 300 acres of the allocated land in october this year under the first phase of the project and release cows to the land.

The Ministry has also planned to provide free cows to the Milk Farmers to breed them .

Radiographers To Launch A Token Strike In Badulla And Monaragala Hospitals Tomorrow

Radiographers attached to the Badulla
and Monaragala Hospitals belonging to Central Government are due to be launched a one day token strike tomorrow (19) over a sudden transfer of a Trade union activist and Radiographer M.Adhikari from Diyathalawa  Hospital to Welimada  Hospital wihout his request,according to the Government Radiographers Union.

If the authorities not providing solutions for the unfair transfer and other problems faced by Radiographers in Provincial level ,Government Radiographers will launch an island wide token strike on 24 th of April the Union has stated.

Two Persons Were Injured Due To A Road Accident In Thalawakale

Two persons were injured and
hospitalized after a high speed van they were travelling in veering off the road and toppled over to a 80 feet deep precipice near Kotmala Oya(River) at Belgariawatte,In Lindula-Dayagama,Thalawakale this evening(18).

The injured imcluding the Van driver were admitted to the Lindula Hospital.

The acvident occurred due to the inability of the Van driver to control the speed of the vehicle according to the Lindula Police.

A Wild Elephant Has Died Due To An Electrocution

A body of a Wild Elephant of the age
around 30 years and died due to an electrocution ,was  recovered in a reserve at Mahindagama in Welikanda ,Polonnaruwa today(18).

Wild Life officers attached to the Welikanda Wild Life office had launched an invesrigatiom over tbe incident and collected evidence from the residents of the area to arrest the culprits who caused the death of the Elephant.

Government Has Imposed An Import Tariff On Gold For The First Time

Government has decided to impose a 15% import tariff  on the  Gold import to Sri Lanka with effect from midnight yesterday(17) according to the Ministry Of Finance.

This is the first time that the Government had imposed a tariff on Imported Gold as up to now the Gold has considered as Tax free item.

Due to the new tariff imposed ,the Gold Prices are expected to rise it has been reported.

Imprisoned Retired Major General Amal Karunasekare Was Further Remanded

Image result for court orderThe former director of the Army Intelligence Unit Retired Major General Amal Karunasekare who was arrested and remanded over the encouraging the abduction of former Journalist attached to the Nation newspaper Keith Noyar on 22nd  of  May 2008 ,was remanded further  until 02nd of May by the Mount Lavinia Magistrate Court today (18) after being produced before the court.

The lawyers of the imprisoned Retired Major General had submitted a bail application seeking bail for their client today when the suspect was produced before the court  ,However the Lawyers representing the Government had strongly opposed granting him bail it has been revealed.

The suspect was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) over encouraging the abduction of Keith Noyar .

Police Have Arrested Three Persons With 37 Kilo Grammes Of Kerala Cannabis

Punaryn Police have today (18)arrested three  persons while transporting  37 Kilo Grammes of Kerala Cannabis in a Lorry from Jaffna to Puttalam ,at sangupitty bridge in Poonaryn Kilinochchi .

The suspects had transported the haul of Kerala Cannabis on the pretext of transporting a stock of steel it has been revealed.The value of the haul of Kerala Cannabis that taken in to custody in possession of the suspects is around Rs.5 million according to the Police.

The suspects of the ages 22 and 24 years old had purchased  the stock of narcotic from a Drug Smuggler in Jaffna  who brought it  to Sri Lanka via a boat from India.

The three suspects are due to be produced before the Kilinochchi Magistrate Court.
