Veteran Radio Journalist Elmo Fernando Has Passed Away

Image result for elmo fernandoVeteran Radio Journalist Elmo Fernando who is the Colombo Correspondent of BBC's  "Sandeshaya" Programme for 20 years has  passed away at the age of 75 last night.

He began his career from Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation(SLBC)  than known as "Radio Ceylon " in 1960's and left the job in 1970's  to join "Veritas" overseas Radio Station .Later he has joined the BBC World Service and became the Colombo Correspondent of it's "Sandeshaya" Sinhalese Programme.

He is a very popular Radio Announcer and producer among Sri Lankan audience and we too had an opportunity to meet this wonderful journalist during health assignments."May his soul rest in peace".

Former DIG And Crimes OIC Were Further Remanded Over The Killing Of Former Rugby Player Thajudeen

Image result for remandedColombo additional magistrate has yesterday (10) further remanded the imprisoned  former Deputy Inspector General of Police Anura Senanayake [DIG]and former crimes OIC of Narahenpita Police Sumith Perera until 24th of August over the killing of former Sri Lankan Rugby Player Wasim Thajudeen .

During the court proceedings of yesterday the additional magistrate has questioned the authorities how can the former DIG Anura Senanayake who is in  remand transferred to the merchants ward in Colombo national hospital without Court permission.

The Additional Magistrate has ordered the director of  Colombo National Hospital to submit a report on former DIG's admission to the hospital ward.


Second Suspect in The case of Molesting Of 17 Girls At A Private Education Institute Has Detained By Police

Image result for detainedKandy Police have today (10) detained the second suspect in connection with the sexually molesting of  17 girls at a residential private training institute in Hanthana recently.

Earlier a lecturer attached to the institute   had been detained and remanded over the incident.

The second suspect of the case a businessman residing in Kandy had  surrendered to the police this morning according to sources.



Chaminda Vaas Has Been Appointed As The New Fast Bowling Coach Of Sri Lankan Cricket Team

Image result for chaminda vaasSri Lanka Cricket has appointed the former Sri Lankan fast bowler Chaminda Vaas as the new fast bowling coach of  Sri Lanka Cricket Team with effect from 01st of September .

Vaas had been appointed as fast bowling coach of the national team earlier too but later he has resigned from the post and undertaken the coaching post of Ireland's cricket team.

Meanwhile Sri Lanka Cricket has appointed Nick Pothas as the new fielding coach of the national team it has been reported.


Government To Purchase New FIghter Jets For Air Force

Image result for mig fighter jetsThe Cabinet has approved the proposal made by President Maithripala Sirisena to purchase 8 to 12 Fighter Jets such as MIG for the Sri Lanka Air Force according to Minister Of Health and co Cabinet Spokesman Dr.Rajitha Senaratne.

Prrsident has made this proposal  to the cabinet in his capacity as Defense Minister Dr.Senaratne has stated.

The government has taken a decision regarding purchasing of fighter jets as the fighter jets available in Sri Lanka Air Force are out of date and need to be modified he has stressed.

These fighter jets will be useful to maintain the oceanic security and  it's being prepared for any unexpected threat to the country.

Former LTTE Media Spokesman Daya Master Has Been Remanded

Image result for daya masterThe vavuniya High Court has  today (10)remanded the former media spokesman of the LTTE Daya Master (velayutham dayanidhi) until tomorrow (11) due to his failure to produce four persons to sign his bail application .

Daya master was summoned by the vavuniya court earlier regarding the observation he made before the Colombo Magistrate regarding the final stage of  the war between LTTE and Sri Lankan Armed  Forces.

After he was detained regarding the accusations the court has released him on a  cash bail of Rs.500,000 and four personal bails.

Kaduwela Magistrate Court Has Allowed The Government To Invest CNN Channel's Money In Central Bank

Image result for illegal investmentThe Kaduwela Magistrate Court has today (10)given permission to the government to invest  Rs.157.5 million currently invested in Carlton Sports Network(CSN) Channel  at  Central Bank  the Minister Of Health,Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine and Co Cabinet Spokesman Dr.Rajitha Senaratne has stated .

The above mentioned money was   illegally invested in CNN Channel Dr.Senaratne has revealed.
