Sri Lanka Ports Authority Has Received US Dollars 97.3 Million Over Hambanthota Development Project
The China Merchant Port Holdings Company which
received the Hambanthota Port on lease basis to developing it had paid US Dollers 97.3 million to Sri Lanka Ports Authority today as the payment of second phase under the Hambanthota Port development project.
Under the agreement on Hambanthota port development project which was signed between Sri Lanka and Has China on 09th of December, Sri Lanka is due to receive US Dollars 1.12 billion from China.

A Person Was Arrested With A Haul Of Heroin In Dehiwala
The crimes investigations unit of the Dehiwala Police
had yesterday (13) arrested a person with 15 grammes and 370 mili grammes of Heroin in his possession near a bridge at Badowita,Dehiwala.
The 30 year old suspect is a resident of Badowita area.
Dehiwala Police are conducting an investigation over the incident.

A 14 Year Old Girl Who Had Attempted To Commit Suicide After Being Raped Has Died At The Hospital
A 14 year old girl who had attempted to commit
suicide by hanging after being raped by three youths including her boyfriend on 09th of January has died this evening (14) while receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of the Hambanthota Hospital.
The deceased who was a resident of Gonagamuwa in Tissamaharamaya area had attempted to commit suicide after the rape incident and her brother had rescued her and admitted to the Hospital.
The residents of her neigbourhood had captured the three youth who are responsible for the rape incident and handed them over to the Police.After being produced before the court the suspects were remanded until 23rd of January.

A 17 year old school boy has drowned while bathing in sea area of Panadura with two of his friemds last evening

Two out of the three school boys of the group had drifted away by the sea waves and the Navy have managed to save one student.The other student has drowned and disappeared according to reports.
The rescued student was admitted to the Panadura hospital for treatment.
Navy offcers along with the residents of the area had launched a search operation to find out the disappeared student who is a resident of Vendesiwatte,Panadura area.
Two Youth Were Killed In Thaipongal Eve Due To A Motor Car Accident
Two youth were killed and another two were injured
and hospitalized after the high speed Motor Car they were travelling in toppled over the road and colliding with a lamp post in Kurumankadu at Vavuniya last
night (13).
One youth was killed on the spot and other youth had succumbed to his injuries after admission to Vavuniya General Hospital in critical condition.
The gup of youth had faced the incident while returning from a Thaipongal function it has been revealed.
The deceased were residents of Vavuniya and of the ages 20 and 21 years old.

A Dead Body Of A Wild Elephant Was Recovered In A Home Garden At Puttalam
A dead body of a Wild Elephant believed to have been
electrocuted had beeen recovered in a home garden at Kaladiya in Puttalam today (14)by the neighbours in the area.
Police have arrived at the scene after being informed by the neighbhours over the dead body of the Wild Elephant .
However the owner of the home garden had stated that although he had laid electric wires around the garden to protect the properties from Wild Elephants, now those wires were disconnected.
A post mortum of the Wild Elephant is scheduled to be conducted to find out the cause of the death.

nationals arrived in from India with a stock of Apple Narcotic tablets,"Mava"narcotic and Abortion tablets brought illegally to the country.
Police have taken in to custody 4000 tablets of Apple narcotic tablets,50 packs contains "Mava"narcotic ,1260 Abortion tablets and 90 small jars contains Vitamin D in possession of the suspects.
The estimated worth of the stock of Narcotics taken in to custody in possession of the suspects is around Rs.2.5 million it has been revealed.
The suspects are of the ages 62 and 27 and residents of Wattala , handala area.
They are due to produce before Minuwangoda Magistrate Court.

President Has Ordered The Authorities To Cancel Two Gazette Notifications On Liquor
President Maithripala Sirisena has today (14)ordered
the authorities to cancel the new gazette notifications issued under the signature of Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera to remove the ban imposed on females to purchase liqupr from bars,working in bars and selling liquor and extending the time schedule of opening bars from 9 p.m to 10 p.m by tomotrow (15).
President has stated that he was not aware on the new gazette nitifications which are contradictory to the government policy of "Stop Liquor" while addressing a public rally in Agalawatte area today.
