Three Persons Have Been Arrested Whilest Attempting To Fly Algeria Through Fraudulent Visas

Criminal Investigations Department 
(CID)officials attached to Katunayake Airport have arrested three Persons attempting to fly Algeria through Fraudulent visas today  (16)at the Katunayake ,Bandaranaike International Airport .

CID officials had also arrested another two persons who had assisted the suspects .

The suspects who are residents of Wattala,Point of Pedro and Mannar areas are due to be produced before the Negambo Magistrate Court.

An Australian Passport Holder Was Arrested With A Stock Of Gold Jewelry

An officers attached to the Narcotic
Control unit of the Airport Customs had today (16)arrested a 30 year old former Sri Lankan national now holds an Australian Passport attempting to smuggle a stock of Gold Jewelry weighing 1.206 Kilo Grammes to the country illegally .

The suspect who had arrived in from Singapore has hidden the stock of Gold Jewelry which wrapped in four parcels inside his cloths it has been revealed .

The stock of Gold Jewelry recovered in possession of the suspect is worth around Rs.6.63 million .

The Australian Passport holder was arrested with the stock of Gold Jewelry while he was leaving the Airport through Green Channel .

Airport Customs are conducting an investigations over the incident. 

President Instructed The Finance Ministry To Submit A Report On Goods That Can Be Restricted Importing To Sri Lanka

President Maithripala Sirisena has
today (16)instructed the Ministry of Finance to search and submit a report within a week's time on the goods that can be restricted from importing  to Sri Lank as a step to face country "s  economic Challanges at present  .

President has instructed on this during a meeting of National Economic Council held at President's office today .

During the meeting it was widely discussed on how to face economic Challanges caused as a result of strengthening the US Dollar in an International Market .

A large number of unnecessary goods are being reported as imported to Sri Lanka at present caused waste of foreign reserves it has been revealed.

Due to this situation National Economic Council has suggested to restrict importing these unnecessary goods and encouraged local producers to produce them here in.view of saving  unnecessary spendings .

Two Drug Smugglers Have Been Sentenced To Death

Colombo High Court has today
(16)sentenced two Drug Smugglers who had been arrested and remanded over packetting Heroin at Mirihana ,Nugegoda in 2008 ,to death .

The Colombo High Court Judge Vikum Kaluarachchi had imposed the death sentence on the two suspects who are 37 years old after found guilty on packetting 122 Grammes of Heroin .

Transport Activities In Nawalapitiya-Gampola Main Road Disrupted Due To A Falling Of A Tree Branch And Power Line On To A Lorry

Transport activities of Nawalapitiya -
Gampola main road had been disrupted since this evening (16) afrer a branch of a Huge Tree and high voltage power line had fallen on to a Lorry parked near the main road it has been reported.

The incident occurred as a result of the heavy showers prevailed in Nawalapitiya area this noon.

No one was injured as a result of the incident ,However power supply to the Nawalapitiya -Warakawa area is being halted due to it.

Due to the removal of Fallen tree branch and power line ,transport activities of the Nawalapitiya road had been restricted to one lane for a one hour period this evening.


Female Consultant Physician Arrested And Remanded Over The Killing Of A Police Inspector During A Vehicle Collision Has Been Further Remanded

Kumara has today (16) further remanded the 39 year old  female  Consultant physician Kavinga who had been arrested and remanded over the killing of a Police Inspector when her vehicle collided with the vehicle the Police Inspector was travelling at Boralesgamuwa on 30 th of September, until 30 th of October.

However the suspected female Physician attached to Ratnapura General Hospital who is  being warded  in Kalubowila Teaching Hospital since her arrest although not received any injuries due to the Accident, had not appeared before the Nugegoda Magistrate Court today for the hearing of the court case against her.

She was not able to attend court hearing as she  had been taken to the Medical Research Institute in Borella for a Medical examination Prisons Officers had informed the court .

Meanwhile Nugegoda Chief Magistrate has refused to grant bail to the Female Physician as the Police had objected to it .


Another Soil Mound Above Castlereigh Reservoir Is Under Landslide Threat

Another Soil Mound along with two houses located above the Castlereigh Reservoir at Newweligama ,Norwood area are being  faced with a Landslide threat according to National Building Research Organization  (NBRO).

Residents of the two houses under Landslide threat had been evacuated from the houses and moved to their relatives houses according to reports.

Due to this situation authorities are now working to make recomm endations  to build an alternative road above the Landslide threat area after the Landslide threats are over  , to facilitate transport activities there .

Reconstruction work has already begun to develop an alternative road that  run across a Tea Estate above the Landslide area for the use of light vehicles.

The Hatton -Bagawanrhalawa-Balangoda-Maskeliya road which closed down temporarily due to the Landslide threat remains closed .
