There Is A Link Between Sri Lankan Tea Ban Imposed By Russia And Lifting The Ban Of Using Asbestos-Minister Navin Dissanayake

There is a link between the lifting of the  ban 

temporarily which scheduled to be imposed on using of Asbestos Sheets with effect from 01st of January 2018 and the Tea ban imposed on Sri Lanka by Russia according to an unofficial reports the Minister of Plantations Navin Dissanayake has stated today (20).

Russia is the main buyer of Sri Lankan Tea and Sri Lanka imports Asbestos raw materials mainly from Russia the Minister has stated during a Cabinet press briefing held in Colombo today.

However a team lead by Minister of Science, Technology and Research Susil Premjayantha due to leave Russia shortly to inspect the hygiene of the white Asbestos products in Russia he has stressed.

Cabinet has approved a proposal on  amending  the

Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance as  enable to impose a life time imprisonment to a person who found guilty over the killing of a Wild Elephant in Sri Lankan  court .

Cabinet has approved a proposal submitted to the Cabinet in this regard by the Minister of Wild Life Gamini Jayawikrama Perera according to the Cabinet co-Spokesman Health Minister Dr.Rajitha Senaratne.

Due to the Ele Prphant -Human conflict around 240 Wild Elephants have been killed annually according to the Cabinet co spokesman.

A Motorcyclist Was killed Due To A Motorcycle-Van Collision

A 42 year old Motorcyclist was killed after the Motorcycle he was riding colliding with a Van

belonging to the Sri Lanka Air Force near the Hatharaskotuwa Junction on Habarana-Trincomalee main road today (20).

The critically injured Motorcyclist who was a resident of Trincomalee area had succumbed to his injuries before admission to Hospital.

Habarana Police have arrested the Van driver regarding the accident.

Police Officers attached to the Wellawatte District Anti Fraud Unit have arrested a 39 year old female with 40 Grammes and 360 Mili Grammes of Heroin in her possession at a house in  Sedawatte area .

However the Ban scheduled to be imposed on using of Blue Asbestos Sheets with effect from the same date, will be imposed as planned the Government has announced.

Two Persons Were Killed Due To Wild Elephant Attacks

Two persons were killed in Galgamuwa and Giriulla areas last night (19) and this morning (20) due to Wild Elephant attacks it has been reported.


Accordingly a 53 year old person resided in Ihalakonwewa area in Galgamuwa was killed by a Wild Elephant while attempting to chased away the Elephant who had arrived near his house last night it has been revealed.

In another incident a 68 year old person was killed due to a Wild Elephant attack this morning while he was on the way to Polonnaruwa Hospital at Giriulla area .

Three Sluice Gates Of The Upper Kothmale Reservoir Opened Due To Heavy Showers

Three sluice gates of Upper Kothmale Reservoir had been opened since this morning (20) due to the rising water levels of the reservoir as a result of the heavy showers prevails in Central Hill areas .
