Around 45 Families In Haputhale Removed From The Area Due To A Land Slide Threat

Around 45 families in Glanolewatte area in Haputhale
(upcountry) had been removed from the area last night (11) due to a land slide threat occurred as a result of the heavy showers prevailing in the area.

The removed familes are now located in a school at Haputhale-Yahalabadda area.

Due to the heavy showers prevailing  in mountainous areas in the upcountry at present, the water levels of several water falls and reservoirs  including badulu oya goes up it have risen it has been reported.

A Youth Worker Was Killed And Another Critically Injured After A Part Of A Constructed Building Collapsed On Them

A 18 year old youth worker was killed and another
critically injured and hospitalized after a part of a newly constructed building in Sir James Pieris Mawatha (Road) in Colpetty was collapsed on them while engaging in work there.

The injured had been admitted to the Colombo National Hospital for treatment.

The deceased had been identified as a resident of Nuwara Eliya.

Three Persons Have Drowned While Bathing In Nachchimalai Stream

Three persons have drowned this afternoon(12) while
bathing in  Nachchimalai stream in ingiriya area(Western Province).

The bodies of the deceased sent to the Ingiriya Hospital for a post mortem the Police have stated.


Around Seven Houses Damaged Due To A Fire In Maharagama

Around seven houses severely damaged due to a fire erupted in Daham Mawatha (Road) ,Maharagama (Colombo) today (12).

Fire brigade attached to Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia Municipal Council arrived at the scene managed to douse the fire before it could spread further it has been reported.

No casualties have been reported due to the fire and Police believed an electrical short circuit may have caused the fire.

Public Services Nurses Union Stated Government Hospital Nurses Will Report Sick Leave Tomorrow And Tuesday-Nursing Officers Union Says Majority Of Nurses Will Not Join It

Once the leading Nurses Union of the country ,Public
Services Nurses Union (PSNU)has decided to launch an island wide two day sick note campaign in government hospitals tomorrow (13) and the day after (14) by demanding solutions for eight of their service demands according to the Union President Venerable Muruththettuwe Ananda Thero.

However the Government Nursing Officers Union president Saman Ratnapriya has stated today (12) that his union which represents majority of the Government  hospital nurses, will refrain from join the trade union action which he cited as a politically motivated one.
