Colombo High Court Ordered A Popular Bakery Shop To Pay Ra. 100,000 To A Female Over Selling Her A Pin Contained Bun

Colombo High Court has yesterday  (31
)ordered a Manager of a Bakery Shop at Maradana (Colombo ) belonging to a popular Bakery chain in Colombo to pay Rs.100,000 to a female as a compensation over selling a Bun containing a pin to her .

The female who had bought a Bun from a Bakery shop at Maradana  recently found a pin inside the bun got stuck in her mouth and complained it to the Bakery manager .However the Manager had threatened and blamed her instead of accepting her complaint over the incident it has been revealed .

Afterwards the female had complaint on the incident to the Public Health Inspector (PHI) of Maradana on the incident and through him  filed a case at Colombo Magistrate Court against the Bakery which sold the pin contained Bun.

After hearing the case Magistrate Court has ordered the Bakery Manager to pay Rs.10,000 to the victim however the Bakery Manager has filed a case against the verdict  at Colombo High Court .

Than the High Court has  yesterday ordered the Bakery to pay Rs.100,000 instead of Rs.10,000 to the victim .

Power Supply To Several Areas Cut Off Due To A Fire At Kelanithissa Grid Power Sub Station

Power supply to several areas
throughout the island has been cut off since last  evening  (31) due to a sudden fire erupted at Kelanithissa Grid POwer Sub station according to Ministry Of power and Energy .

Accordingly Power supply to  Colombo City ,Kelaniya, Biyagama ,Sapugaskanda ,Athurugiriya ,Kosgama ,Embilipitiya and Kiribathkumbura areas will be cut off from time to time .Kelanithissa POwer sub station is supplying electricity to these areas .

Kokkadicholai OIC Has Been Remanded Over Accepting A Bribe

Batticaloa Magistrate A.C Rizwan has today (31)ordered to Remand
Kokkadocholai Police OIC Sisira Kumara until 08 th of February over accepting a Rs.25,000 as a bribe from a person .

The suspected OIC was arrested by the Bribery Commission officers yesterday  (30)whilst accepting The bribe at his office in Kokkadocholai Police and produced him better the court today.

Batticaloa Magistrate has also ordered the officials to produce the suspect before Colombo Fort Magistrate at  the next hearing of the case .

Kokkadicholai Police OIC Chief Inspector Sisira Kumara has been arrested by the Bribery Commission officials over accepting Rs.25,000 as a bribe for not taking a legal action against a person over transporting sand through a Tipper Truck illegally. Earlier the OIC has requested the Tipper Truck owner Rs.30,000 to avoid legal action against him and to release him.

A Fire Erupted In Hatton -Kotagala Wetland Has Destroyed A 10 Acres Of Land

Around 10 acres of  land belonging to
the Hatton -Kotagala wetland zone had been destroyed due to a sudden fire erupted in the wetland zone this morning  (31).

Fire brigade officials attached to Hatton -Kotagala Urban Council along with Army personal have controlled the fire before it spreading further it has been reported .

Authorities believes the fire erupted as a result of Lighting fire by an indïvidual.

A threat of spreading fire towards the nearby houses had been prevented due to the controlling of the fire it has been revealed. The Hatton -Kotagala wetland zone is located near the Devon waterfall

Ministry of Housing Constructions and Cultural Affairs has declared the Zone including the Water Pond (Diya Agala)at Sigiriya as Waste Free Zone including polythene with effect from tomorrow  (01).

Two Persons Arrested Whilst Attempting To Smuggle Star Turtoises To Malaysia

Airport Police have yesterday (30)

arrested two persons who  had attempted to smuggle 304 Star Turtoises illegally to Malaysia on the pretext of carrying crabs at Katunayake ,Bandaranaike International Airport.

The Star Turtoises stored in 20 boxes it has been revealed.

A 72 Year Old Person Has Died Due To A Wasp Attack

A 72 year old person Has died and his
wife had been inJured and hospitalized due to a Wasp attack at a  Estate in Thalawakale area this noon (30) it has been reported .

The injured female had been admitted to Lindula Hospital for treatment .

The deceased and his wife had faced the incident whilst at their vegetable cultivation in the Estate it has been revealed.

The incident occurred as a result of provoking the Wasps in the nest located near the vegetable cultivation .

Kokkadicholai Police OIC Had Been Arrested Whilst Accepting A Bribe

Bribery Commission officials have
today (30)arrested the OIC of Kokkadocholai Police Station (Batticaloa District )whilst accepting Rs.25,000 as a bribe from a Tipper Truck  owner for not taking an action against him over transporting sand from.a Tipper Truck illegally, at OIC'office in Kokkadocholai.

The Tipper Truck owner was arrested over transporting sand without obtaining a valid licence recently by the Kokkadocholai Police .

For not taking any action against the suspect OIC had requested Rs.30,000 as a bribe  and whilst accepting Rs.25,000 out of it arrested by Bribery Commission officials.

A legal action is due to be taken against the OIC

Four Foreign Tourists Had Been Injured Due To A Wasp Attack At Nawa Arukku Palama (Bridge)

Four Foreign Tourists had been injured

and hospitalized due to a Wasp attack at Nawa Arukku Palama (Bridge ) known as Nine Arch Bridge (Bridge in the Sky) located between Demodara and Ella Railway stations today  (30).

The injured had been admitted to Demodara Provincial Hospital for treatment.

This was the second Wasp attack faced by the Tourists visited to see the Bridge since yesterday  (29).

Around 20 Persons including 10 foreign  Tourists had been injured and hospitalized whilst at The bridge last morning.The injured had been admitted  to Demodara Provincial Hospital for treatment and Two critically injured Foreign tourists had been later Transferred to Badulla General Hospital for further treatment. 

A Couple Was Arrested With 03 Kilo Grammes Of Heroin

A couple had been arrested by the
Police officers attached to Terrorism Investigations Division (TID) today (30)with 03 Kilo Grammes of Heroin  in their possession at Eriyawetiya area in  Kiribathgoda (Westetn Province ).

The suspected couple was arrested at their house after taken in to custody 100 grammes of Heroin whilst transporting in a Three Wheeler .Accordance to information received from those transported the haul of Heroin TID officers had raided the house at Eriyawetiya area and arrsted the couple in possession of Heroin it has been reported .

The estimated value of the haul of Heroin taken in to custody in possession of the suspects is around Rs.36 million according to Police.

foreigners had been injured and hospitalized due to a Wasp attack near Arukku Bridge known as  "Nine Arch "closer to Ella Railway station ,Badulla this evening  (29).

The injured had been admitted to Demodara Provincial Hospital and Badulla General Hospital for teatment it has been revealed.

A 48 year old female had been killed

after a part of a newly constructed building at Uragasmanhandiya area in Galle had collapsed on her today (29).

The incident occurred whilst she was on the way home after visiting a shop near by it has been revealed.

Drama At Kinniya -Two Illegal Sand Miners Jumped In To Mahaweli River To Escape From Navy -Two Drowned ,One Body recovered

A Person Has Drowned and another
had gone missing when they had jumped in to Mahaweli River and attempted to swim to escape from Navy Personal who had chased them over illegally involving in sand mining near MahawelI estuary at Kandalkadu area in Kinniya ,Trincomalee today (29).

The victims were 19 and 22 year old persons from Kinniya it has been revealed.

The incident occurred when a group of Navy Personal had raided a group of persons who had involved in illegal sand mining near MahawelI estuary this morning.

To escape from Navy Personal two of the sand miners had jumped in to the MahawelI River and swam .However soon they have drowned it has been revealed .

In view of catching them Navy Personal fired gun shots to the air and as a result hundreds of villagers in the area gathered near River and protested against the action .

Due to the protest Police officers were called to control the situation. Even when Navy divers attempting to launch a search mission to find the missing, Villagers opposed it according to reports.

Afterwards Navy Personal withdrew  from the search mission and the villagers have launched a search mission to find out the missing persons with the  help of fisheries boats  .

The body of one of the missing had been recovered this evening according to sources .

A Four Storied Building At Matara Had Been Destroyed Due To A Fire

A four storey Motor Spare parts Shop
building at Pamburana in Matara (Southern Province )had been destroyed due to a sudden fire erupted in the building this evening  (29) it has been reported.

The fire brigades in Galle and Matara along with the villagers have controlled the spreading of fire further.

No casualties had been reported due to the incident. The cause of the fire has not yet been revealed and the  value of the damage done to the building as a result of fire has not yet been estimated .

Another Batch Of 1608 Nurses To Be Received Diplomas And Appointment Letters This Thursday

Handing over of  Diplomas and
appointment letters to 1608 Nurses who had passed out from Nursing Schools is scheduled to be held at Temple Trees, Colombo on this Thursday (31)morning under the patronage of Health Mpinister Dr.Rajitha Senaratne .

These Nurses are due to be recruited to Government Hospitals Island Wide according to the Health Ministry.

Around 40,089 Nurses are needed to carrying  out functions of Government Hospitals  as usual and around 35,136 Nurses have already working in Hospitals Ministry has stated.

Nearly 9000 Nursing students are currently studying at Nursing Schools it has been revealed. 

A 23 Year Old Female Had Committed Suicide By Consuming A High Dose Of A Drug

A 23 year old young female who had
stayed and worked at a Private Medical Center in Danbar Street ,Hatton had committed suicide last Sunday (27)night by consuming a high dose of a drug prescribed for an illness it has been reported.

The deceased female who was a resident of watagoda ,Thalawakale area had consumed the high dose of the drug at Private Medical Center and informed it to her brother through a  phone it has been revealed .

Then the brother had informed the doctor at Medical center over the incident and as  a result the female who was in critical condition at that time was admitted to DiKoya Base Hospital for teatment .

However she has died on the admission. The reason behind her suicide has not yet been revealed .

A Person Was Arrested With 86,4 Kilo Grammes Of Kerala Cannabis

Point Pedro Police have arrested a 50
year old person with around 86.4 Kilo Grammes of Kerala Cannabis in his possession at Viyaparamullai area in Point Pedro yesterday  (28)accordance to an information provided by Navy intelligence unit.

The stock of Kerala Cannabis hidden inside a roof of a House in the area it has been revealed .

Point Pedro Police is investigating on the incident further and a legal action is due to be taken against the suspect .

Traffic Light System.To Be Introduced For The Solid /Half Solid And Liquid Food Items From 01st Of April

Ministry of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine has decided to introduce  Traffic Light System which displays  the amount of Sugar  ,Salt and fat contains in food items in their labels, to Solid/Half Solid and Liquid food items with effect from 01 st of April .

Accordingly from 01st of April all Solid/Half Solid and Liquid food items selling in Sri Lanka should display the percentage of Sugar ,Salt and Fat contains in  the food items in   main frame of the label  in view of controlling  spreading of non communicable diseases including  diabetes Ministry has announced today (28).

The decision  regarding this has been taken during a meeting held last week at the Ministry chaired by Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne .

Minister has instructed the Deputy Director General Of Health Services Dr.Lakshman Gamlath to implement this decision  to introduce Traffic Light System to other food items under the Food act  .

The system was introduced to Soft drinks in 2017 to reduce spreading Diabetes In the country .

The producers of Solid /Half Solid and Liquid food items have been informed on this decision last year  (2018)according to the Ministry.


MP Wimal Weerawansha Had Given A Statement To CID For Nearly Three Hours

 (CID) has today (28) recorded a statement from National Freedom Front leader MP Wimal Weerawansha for nearly three hours regsrding the revelation made by an Indian National remanded over the Assasination plot against President and former Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapakshe .

After the statement MP Weerawansha 's wife Sashi Weerawansha had given a statement this evening to CID regarding the Assasination plot it has been reported .

The Indian National who was arrested and remanded over the plot has revealed that he had met with  MP Wimal Weerawansha, his Wife Sashi Weerawansha and MP Namal Rajapakshe at their places .

Due to the statement, CID has informed the Colombo Fort Magistrate Court recently that it will record statements from the three Persons mentioned above.

Accordingly MP Namal Rajapakshe has given a statement to CID Last week .

Distilaries  Limited Of Sri Lanka has increased the prices of all their Liquor products by Rs.10  with effective from today (28)  it has been announced .

The decision to increase the Liquor prices had been taken due to the high production cost of Liquor caused as  a result of the depreciation of the value of  Sri Lankan Rupee against American Dollar according to the Distilleries Limited.

The price increase comes  in to effect at a time when government has not increased  the Liquor prices .

Meanwhile other Local liquor manufacturing companies are currently holding  talks regarding price revision of their Liquor products.






Three Wheeler -Bus Collision Sent The Three Wheeler Driver To Hospital

A Three Wheeler Driver had been
critically injured and hospitalized after the Three Wheeler he was driving  in colliding with a Private Bus near the Nawalapitiya -Warakawa Railway crossing at Nawalapitiya -Gampola main road this evening  (28).

The injured Driver had been admitted to Nawalapitiya Base Hospital for treatment  .

The incident occurred when the high speed Three Wheeler had collided with the Private Bus arrived in front due to the inability of Three Wheeler Driver to control the speed of the vehicle it has been revealed.

The Private Bus was travelling from Kandy to Hatton  and the Three Wheeler from Nawalapitiya to Gampola  at the time of the incident .Both vehicles had been  extensively damaged  as a result.
