The National Sexually Transmitted Diseases/AIDS Control Programme has requested the World Health Organization to declare Sri Lanka as a country that eradicated Mother to Child Transmission of HIV/AIDS Virus by next year(2017) as the country has already achieved that target successfully according to Dr.G.Weerasinghe attached to the programme.
There are no cases reported from the country during first quarter of this year on Mother to Child transmission of HIV/AIDS Virus Dr.Weerasinghe has stated.
The AIDS Control Programme is planning to check every pregnant mother for HIV/AIDS from this year he has stressed.
By the end of last year 41 children who got infected with HIV/AIDS Virus through their mothers have been received treatment from the AIDS Control Programme and out of this number 23 are boys and 18 are girls Dr.Weerasinghe has revealed at the Media Seminar held yesterday(23) at Health Education Bureau in Colombo on "HIV/AIDS and Myths".
