Sri Lanka To Eradicate Mother To Child Transmission Of HIV/AIDS Virus By Next Year

The National Sexually Transmitted Diseases/AIDS Control Programme has requested the World Health Organization to declare Sri Lanka as a country that eradicated Mother to Child Transmission of HIV/AIDS Virus by next year(2017) as the country has already achieved that target successfully according to Dr.G.Weerasinghe attached to the programme.

There are no cases reported from the country during first quarter of this year on Mother to Child transmission of HIV/AIDS Virus Dr.Weerasinghe has stated.

The AIDS Control Programme is planning to check every pregnant mother for HIV/AIDS from this year he has stressed.

By the end of last year 41 children who got infected with HIV/AIDS Virus through their mothers have been received treatment from the AIDS Control Programme and out of this number 23 are boys and 18 are girls Dr.Weerasinghe has revealed at the Media Seminar held yesterday(23) at Health Education Bureau in Colombo on "HIV/AIDS and Myths".

Fourteen Higher Rank Police Officers Have Been Transferred

The Department Of Police have transferred 14 Chief Superintendents Of Police and Superintendents Of Police with immediate effect .

The Chief Superintendent Of Police attached to Police Financial Crimes Investigations Division ,Chief Superintendents Of Police attached to Kurunagala and Kandy Police Divisions are among those transferred according to reports.

These Higher Rank Police Officers have been transferred due to service requirements the Police Department has stated.

More Than 10 Acres Of Land Belonging To Namunukula Mountain Have Destroyed Due To A Fire

More than 10 Acres of Land belonging to Namunukula Mountain (In Uva Province)have destroyed due to a sudden fire occurred at the Southern Part of the Mountain on last Tuesday(22) according to sources.

The fire is still spreading and due to the windy condition in the area fire is spreading rapidly the sources said.

The forest land owned by Government which situated in the  area  has been also destroyed due to the fire it has been reported.

A Principal Of Kilinochchi Area Has Been Arrested Over A Sexual Harassment Of A School Girl

The Kilinochchi (In Northern Province)Police have yesterday(23) arrested a School Principle at  Kilinohchi in connection with a  sexual harassment of a School Girl.

The 45 year old Principle is due to be produced before Kilinochchi Magistrate Court and the school girl has been produced for a medical examination it has been revealed.

The Kilinochchi Police are conducting an investigation on the incident.

Bribery Commission Officials Have Arrested A Land Officer While Accepting

The Bribery Commission Officials have yesterday(23) arrested a Land Officer who is in charge of Mahaweli "H" Zone in Thambuthhegama Area for taking Rs.75,000 bribe from a Timber Trader in Anuradhapura (In North Central Province).

The suspect has been taken the bribe to issue the original licence for the timber trader to cut some Teak Trees at the trader's lands in Eppawala it has been reported.

The suspected Land Officer has  requested  the timber trader a sum of Rs.100,000 to issue the licence and while accepting a sum of Rs.75,000 from the timber trader suspect was arrested by Bribery Commission Officials at Mahawali Residential Business Management Office

Ministry Of Education Has Decided To Postpone All Zonal Level Schools Sports Meets Until May Due To Hot Weather

The Ministry Of Education has decided to postpone the  all Zonal Level School Sports Meets scheduled to be held in this March until  May due to warm weather conditions prevails in the country at present according to the Minister Of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam.

The decision to ban the All Zonal Level School Sports Meets during march has been taken per the advise of Medical Experts and Meteorology Department Officials the Minister has stressed.

The Meteorology Department has predicted that the temperatures will be reached 38 Degrees Celsius during this month  which exceeds the body temperature level and the Medical Experts have stated such temperatures could be harmful for the health of School Children the Minister has said.

Former Eastern Province Chief Minister Pillayan Has Been Further Remanded Until 06th Of April Over A Murder

The Imprisoned former Chief Minister Of Eastern Province Sivanasathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan who is in remand over the killing of former TNA MP Joseph Pararajasingham has been further remanded today(23) until 06th of April.

The Former Chief Minister has been further remanded after being produced before Batticloe Magistrate this morning.

The former TNA MP Joseph Pararajasingham was shot dead on Christmas Eve on 2005 and Pillayan was arrested and later remanded after he has given a statement regarding the murder to the Criminal Investigations Department(CID).

Thirty Dengue High Risk Zones Have Been Identified From Ten Districts in the Island

Thirty Dengue High Risk Zones have been identified from Ten Districts in the Island according to the Co Coordinator of National Dengue Control and Prevention Programme Dr.Hasitha Thisera.

Colombo,Kandy,Gampaha,Kurunagala,Kolonnawa and Polonnaruwa are among the Ten Districts where the Thirty Dengue High Risk Zones are  he has stated.

Due to the risk of spreading Dengue rapidly in these Dengue High Risk Zones during forthcoming monsoon season every premise including Schools,Institutes and Religious Centers will be thoroughly checked to see whether there are any dengue mosquito breeding place there during the National Mosquito Control Week announced from 29th of March to 04th of April Dr.Thisera has said..

Around 12,361 Dengue Patients have been reported from the island during January to March this year and the majority of these patients have reported from Colombo District he has stressed.

Dengue is spreading through Dengue Mosquito "Eadis Egyptai" and High Fever,Headache,Pain behind eyes,and Muscle and Joint pain are the main symptoms of Dengue and as the disease is spreading through the Dengue Mosquito public have advised to destroy dengue mosquito breeding places in their premises and keep the  environment clean.

Colombo Additional Magistrate Has Instructed The CID To Speeding Up The Investigations On Rugby Player Thajudeen's Death

Image result for court order logoThe Colombo Additional Magistrate Nishantha Pieris has today(23) instructed the Criminal Investigations Department (CID)Officials to speeding up the Investigations on the Controversial Death of former Sri Lankan Rugby Player Wasim Thajudeen.

When the case on Thajudeen's Death has been taken up for  consideration today the senior state counsel Dilan Ratnayake has stated that CCTV Camera Video Footage obtained from roadside at the road where Thajudden has succumbed to his injuries following a car accident were examined in connection with the incident and it didn't contribute well to the investigations.

The Senior State Counsel has also requested from the Court further two months to conclude the investigation on Thajudeen's Death.

After considering the facts revealed on Thajudeen's Death the Colombo Additional Magistrate has postponed the case until 12th of May.

A Draft Bill On Regulating Massage Centers/SPA'S Submitted To Legal Draftsman Department

A Draft Bill on Regulating Massage Centers/SPA'S situated throughout the island has been submitted to Legal Draftsman Department for approval according to Director General Of Health Services Dr.Palitha Mahipala,

After getting approval from the Legal Draftsman Department the Draft Bill will be presented to Parliament and get approved Dr.Mahipala has stated.

Afterwards the act on Regulating Massage Centers/SPA'S will be implemented with a regulating mechanism he has stressed.

The Ministry Of Health,Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine has decided to prepare the Draft Bill after Some Ayurveda Doctors as well as other people have complained to the Ministry that some massage centers/SPA'S are using the name "Ayurveda" illegally and some centers are functioning as brothels Dr.Mahipala has said.

He has revealed these details during a press briefing held at Health Education Bureau this morning.

Power Supply Has Been Fully Restored In Some Parts Of Southern Province Which Experienced A Power Failure

Some Parts in Galle And Matara (In Southern Province) Districts had experienced sudden power failure today(23) and  authorities have managed to restore the full power supply to those areas short while ago according to Ministry Of Power And Renewable Energy.

The sudden power failure had occurred due to a disruption in the  transmitting  line the Ministry has stated.
