International Football Trophy 2018 Displayed In BMICH Yesterday
The 2018 International Football Cup (FIFA)Trophy
which brought to Sri Lanka by a special flight on Tuesday (23)night was displayed to Sri Lankan Football fans from 9 a.m to 2 p.m at Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) yesterday (24).
A large crowd arrived in BMICH to view the Football world's prestegious trophy and Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinghe had also graced this occassion .
The Trophy was eatlier handed over to the President Maithripala Sirisrna after it brought to Sri Lanka by International Football Federation (FIFA) Officials.
The Trophy was taken to Maldives yesterday after displaying here.
The Trophy is due to visit 91 cities across 51 countries throughout the globe.The tour of carrying the International Football Trophy begun from Lindon,United Kingdom on 22nd.

Inter University Students Federation To Conduct The Protest March As Scheduled Despite Two Stay Orders
Although two stay orders were issued to avoid the Anti
SAITM Protest march to be held today (25)from entering Colombo,the scheduled protest march will be held as planned according to the Inter University Students Federation.
Through the stay orders issued against the protest march Colombo Fort and Gangodawila Magistrate Courts banned the Protest march which begin in front of Jayawardanapura University today from entering Colombo.

Seven Defendants Involved In The Invident Of Kneeling Down A Principal In Badulla By The Uva Chief Minister Requested To Appear Before Human Rights Commission
Sri lanka Human Rights Commission has requested
seven defendants of the incident on kneeling down of a female principal by the Uva chief minister to appear before the Commission to face an inquiry over the incident today (25).
Accordingly the defendants including Uva Provincial Education Secretary ,The Education Director of Uva Province,three staff members of the Uva Provincial Council ,Badulla Regional Education Director and Police Suprentendant in Badulla have been requested to appear before the Human Rights Commission to record their statements of the inquiry to be held regarding the incident under the durector of Investigations of the Commission at 10 a.m today.
The complainant party and the Principal of the Badulla Tamil Girls School who faced the incident are also being requested to appear before the Commission today

Minimum Standards Of Medical Education To Be Gazetted On 27th
Minimum standards of Medical
Education and Clinical Training will be gazetted on 27 the of January according to the Government Information Department.
This will be done as a solution for the SAITM crisis and Government has already planned to abolish SAITM and handed over the assets,students,staff and all resources of SALTM to the non profitable institute Sri Lanka Institute Of Information Technology.
Government is willing to arrange discussions over the SALTM issue with ministers for the relevant parties and before protest against the decision The relevant parties should discuss widely on the steps taken to solve the SALTM issue the release issued by Government Information Department has stated

A Tense Situation Occurred Due To A Brawl Erupted Between Two Doctors During Sri Lanka Medical Council Elections
A tense situation had occurred in front of the Sri
Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) building in Noris Canal road ,Colombo-10 this noon (24)due to a brawl erupted between two Doctors who contested in the election held to elect four members to the SLMC .
Due to the brawl a part of a trouser of one of the Doctors attached to a Doctors Union who involved in the brawl had been torn it has been reported.
The voting of the election was held on both yesterday (23) and today (24) with the participation of doctors attached to government sector at SLMC Premises.

Two Youth Were Killed Due To A Motorcycle-Cab Collision
Two youth were killed after the Motorcycle they were
travelling in colliding in with a Cab vehicle at Urali area,in Jaffna-Palali main road last evening (23).
One youth was killed on the spot and other youth had succumbed to his injuries after admission to hospital it has been revealed.The two youth were residents of Jaffna of the ages 25 and 36 years old according to the Police.
The accident occurred when the Motorcycle attempting to overtake a Bus .Chunnakam Police are investigating on the incident.

Two Persons A Sister And Her Brother Were Arrested Over Bringing Eight Cannabis Packets To The Court Premises
Puttalam Police have today(24) arrested an elder sister and her Brother who arrived in Puttalam Court premises to sell Cannabis with Eight Cannabis Packets hidden inside the sister's cloths and a wallet of the brother.
The two told the authorities that they want to deposit money for a court case and arrived in the Court premises it has been revealed.However after checking them a female Police Officer had recovered seven Cannabis Packets in possession of the sister and one Packet inside the wallet of the Brother.
Police have suspected that the two suspects may have attempted to sell the Cannabis Packets to another suspect.

Driver And His Assistant Received Minor Injuries Due To A Road Accident
The driver and his assistant of a Fuel Bowser were received minor injuries after the Bowser they were traveling in veering off the road and colliding in with a bridge at Palwehera area in Dambulle in Dambulle-Habarana main road today(24).
The Fuel Bowser was transporting Fuel from Colombo to fuel storage in Trincomalee at the time of the accident.
A major accident had prevented ,Due to the Bridge located at the place where accident was occurred according to the Motor Traffic Division of Dambulle Police.

Speaker Rejected To Give MP Ravi Karunanayake An Opportunity To Make A Special Statement On Bond Scam Report
Speaker Karu Jayasuriya had today (24) rejected to give an opportunity to the former Finance Minister MP Ravi Karunanayake to make a special statement in Parliament regarding the information contains on him in Central Bank Bond Scam report based on standing orders.
Speaker had rejected the request of the MP Karunanayake as it was not a question on Privileges and said that he can give another date for the statement.
Speaker Jayasuriya has also informed MP Karunanayake that he has no question over giving the special statement of the MP To the media.

Debate On Bond Scam And Serious Fraud And Corruption Reports To Be Held On 20th And 21st Of February
The Party Leaders have decided to hold the debate on Central Bank Bond Scam and Serious Fraud and Corruption Commission reports on 20th and 21st of February 2018 it has been announced today(24).
The decision was taken at a All Party Leaders meeting held today at the Parliament under the patronage of Speaker Karu Jayasuriya .
During the meeting it has been decided to convene a special All Party Leaders Meeting during next week under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena to discuss on the Bond Scam and Serious Fraud and Corruption Commission reports.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo Has Arrived In Sri Lanka
Indonesian President Joko Widodo has arrived in Sri Lanka this noon(24) for a two day Official Visit as per an invitation made by President Maithripala Sirisena.
During his visit the Indonesian President is due to hold bi lateral talks with Sri Lankan President and Prime Minister and due to sign several Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) between the two countries.
