Imprisoned Hambanthota Mayor Had Been Released On Bail

Hambanthota High Court Judge
Chamara Tennakoon has today (23)granted bail to Hambanthota Mayor Eraj Raveendra Fernando who had been sentenced to six year imprisonment over threatening a group of parliamentariens arrived in Hambanthota to inspect the harbour there in 2014 showing a pistol.

The Mayor and another person had been sentenced six year rigorous imprisonment by the Hambanthota Provincial High court on 02 nd of August .


However the two suspects had been granted bail after considering their bail application .

A Private Company Filed A Petition In Supreme Court Seeking A Court Order To Ban Election Publicity Work In Cinema Halls /Popular Places

A private committee has today (23)filed
a petition at Supreme Court requesting to issue an interim order banning Presidential Election publicity work in Cinema halls and in front of popular places showing  Digital placards .

Chairman of National Elections Commission Mahinda Deshapriya and three  other members of the Commission were named as respondents of this case by the petition.

The petitioner had argued in the petition that Presidential candidates have violated the guidelines issued by Election Commission to the media on.12th of September over how to carry out publicity campaign of the presidential Election .Some candidates are being carried out publicity work in Cinama halls and public places violating the guidelines the petitioner has stressed .

Navy Have Arrested Five Persons Including Three Indians Who Have Failed To Prove Identity

Sri Lanka Navy have arrested five
persons including Three Indians and Two Sri Lankans who have failed to prove their identity during inspection of the Van they were travelling in at the Road block near Ja-Ela Municipal Council this morning(23).

The two Sri Lankans arrested by the Navy personal are residents of Matale and Yatiyanthota areas it has been revealed .

Navy have handed over the five suspects along with their Van to the Ja-Ela police for Further investigations .

Risen Water Levels Of Kalu River And Attanagalu Oya Are Being Receded

Water levels of Kalu River and Attanagalu Oya (River) which had risen this morning (23) in to a flood situation are being receded at present according to the Department of Irrigation .

The Water levels of the River and Oya had risen at Millakanda and Dunamale areas respectively this morning following heavy showers .

Governmemt Has Suspended The Decision Taken To Import Eggs And Chicken

Government has suspended the
decision taken by the cost of living Committee to import Eggs and Chicken in view of controlling their prices in the local market for the forthcoming festive season after the  local producers have agreed  to supply Eggs and Chicken continuously for a reasonable price without any shortage  .
Accordingly local  Egg and Chicken producers have  agreed with the Government to supply an Egg for Rs.17 and a Kilo Gramme of Chicken for Rs.450 continuosly at a meeting held with Agriculture ,Rural Economic Affairs ,Irrigation and Fisheries P.Harrison  today (23).

The decision to import Eggs and Chicken has been criticized at  the presidential election meetinga  too re ently .
