More Than One Million People Affected Due To The Dry Weather In Sri Lanka
The number of persons affected due to the dry
weather prevailing in most parts of the country at present recorded as one million fourty one thousand and six hundrad ninty according to the Disaster Managment Center.
These persons belonging to 251,310 families the center has stated.
Meanwhile several drought hit areas in the country have experienced rain since yesterday (20)and more than 75 mili meters of rain can be expected from some parts of the coumtry during today (21) according to the Meteorology Department.

President Has Instructed The Authorities To Sell A Kilo Gramme Of Imported Rice Less Than Rs.70
President Maithripala Sirisena has directed the
authorities that the imported rice should be sold less than Rs.70 per Kilo Grammes as a benefit of the consumers.
President has also stated that imported rice should be in good qualitiy suitable for consumption and the prices should not be increased in favour of local traders and rice mill owners.
President has also instructed the paddy marketing board to submit a report whether the mill owners converted the paddy stocks issued to them through government stores to rice and issued to the market.
President Sirisena has made these remarks during the meeting held with officials of the Special Presidential Task Force for drought relief.

Six Persons Injured And hospitalized Due To A Van-Defender Vehicle Collision
The injured who were in the Van at the time of the accident were admitted to the Galnawa Hospital and later transfered to Anuradhapura General Hospital for further treatment.

Bribery Commission Officials have today (20)arrested
a Public Health Inspector (PHI) attached to Thannekumbura in Kandy (Central Province) while accepting Rs.10,000 as a bribe from owner of a Hotel in Kandy.
The PHI was arrested while accepting the bribe for giving recommendation to the Hotel to get a new trade licence for this year it has been revealed.

Seven University Students Including Four Monks Were Arrested And Remanded Over Involving In A Violent Protest At Colpettyt
Seven University Students including four Student Buddhist Monks and a female student were arrested and remanded today(20) regarding involving in a student protest which held at Colpetty (Colombo) junction yesterday(19) violently according to Police.
The suspects were remanded until 26th of January after being produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate today(20).

Excise Department Officials Arrested A Chinese Female With Illegal Items Including Smuggled Cigarettes
The Excise Department Officials have arrested a Chinese female with Rs.5 million worth illegal Cigarettes smuggled to Sri Lanka and a stock of illegal items in her possession at Wellawatte(Colombo).
Among the other illegal items recovered in possession of the suspect are stocks of Sea Gull powder,Expensive Wallapatta or "Gyrinops" ,White Sandalwood and Deer Skin .
The suspected Chinese female was arrested at a housing scheme in Wellawatte area .

Around Twenty Passengers Injured And Hospitalized Due To A Bus Collision
Around 20 passengers were injured, 03 of them seriously and hospitalized after two Buses colliding each other on Dambulla-Kurunagala main Road today(20).
The injured were admitted to the Kurunagala Teaching Hospital and Gokeralla and Galewela provincial Hospitals for treatment according to the Police.

A Private Bus Bound From Elpitiya To Galle Hijacked By A Group At Boossa Area
A Private Bus traveling from Elpitiya to Galle (Southern Province) carrying 40 passengers was hijacked by around 15 hijackers today(20) at Boossa area after the passengers were removed from the Bus it has been reported.
The group of Hijackers who believed to be hijacked the Private Bus over a time table dispute , assaulted the driver and conductor of the Bus and as a result both were admitted to Archchikanda Hospital for treatment sources have stated.
After assaulting Bus driver and conductor the hijackers abandoned the Bus at Rathgama area it has been reported.
Rathgama Police are conducting an investigation on the incident.
